At a Press Conference earlier this morning, it was revealed to the local and foreign media that Malta will be hosting the 2017 edition of the Eurovision Young Dancers. Flanked by Dr Tonio Portughese, and Anton Attard, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Broadcasting Services, respectively. Owen Bonnici, the Minister of Justice, Local Government and Culture stated that "this is great news that will raise the profile of the country in the field of arts".

This decision was made during a Young Dancers Steering Group meeting held in Pilsen, where the Public Broadcasting Services presented their vision and official bid to host the competition. As Malta prepares to become the European Capital City of Culture in 2018, this will serve as a stunning 'warm-up' event, as countries meet together in Valletta, as the event is staged at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

Executive Supervisor of the competition, Vladislav Yakovlev, added "We saw what an amazing job and show PBS made with the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in November last year. Eurovision Young Dancers is a slightly different style of show, however I am confident that PBS will deliver an equally impressive event and I look forward to working with them over the next 23 months". We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

After the launch of her debut album original songs in Maltese entitled ‘Hawn Jien’, singer/songwriter Corazón followed up its success with a concert at the Casino Maltese last January. The location offered the ideal setting for this collection of songs which treat diverse social themes and profound lyrics.

Corazón has never shyed away from singing about what is usually left unsaid, giving a voice to the prostitute (in Illejla B’Xejn), to the unborn child (in Hawn Jien) and even to the woman scorned (in Marì) amongst others. The concert included popular songs such as Tal-Aħħar and Fid-Dar tan-Nanna and the launch of two brand new songs which were included in the second edition of the album.

All songs were performed live by a group of talented musicians; Walter Vella on saxophone, Carlo Bugeja on keyboards, Simon Sammut on the double-bass, Samuel Attard on the drums, Jimmy Bartolo on guitars and Dominic Galea on the piano. Dominic Galea also took care of the direction and arrangements. The songs were taken to a different level with the presentation of introductory theatrical pieces scripted by Trevor Zahra and directed by Mario Micallef.

The concert featured also several well-known personalities such as Walter Micallef, Peppi Azzopardi, Hermann Bonaċi, Frida Cauchi, Louise Doneo, Mark Doneo, Joe Galea, Antonella Galea Loffreda, Lilian Vassallo, Clive Piscopo, Nathalie Micallef amongst others. Corazón felt that the best way to present her songs was to an intimate audience of around 300 people.

This concert was sold out a week before the performance and many were disappointed for not managing to find available tickets. For all who missed this concert and also for those who were present and would like to rekindle memories of this experience, the concert will be aired on Sunday 21st June at 20.40 and on Wednesday 24th June at 22.00 on TVM2. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.

It's a wrap! Vienna, the capital city of Austria, known as the epitome of culture has had the opportunity to play host to the Eurovision Song Contest, and setting the record for boasting equal opportunities throughout the whole show. At the end of the spectacle, "Heroes", sung by Mans Zelmerlow, on behalf of Sweden was crowned winner, with "A Million Voices", sung by Polina Gagarina on behalf of Russia finishing in second place and "Grande Amore", interpreted to perfection by Il Volo for Italy landed third place.

In Malta, it was the usual chant of "let's boycott the event", following the non-qualification of Amber whose entry "Warrior" was penned by Matt 'Muxu' Mercieca to the music of Elton Zarb. Not all was lost, as the semi-final results proved to tell a different story with Malta finishing in 5th place with the professional jury, and 14th place with the public at home.

Once more, the overall result was 11th place, a feat which Malta had the misfortune to also face back in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest when Glen Vella sang "One Life", composed by Paul Giordimaina and penned by Fleur Balzan. In this competition, it is important to be innovative not only in the creation of the song, but also in the visual aspect of the presentation, and that is something that each singer, songwriter, manager and publicist should look to prior to entering next year's edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

On another note, I would like to personally thank the editorial team of escflashmalta.com including our affiliates Radio International and ESCnews for their continued support, as well as the special guest bloggers; Lyndsay, Marilena Gauci, Christabelle, Claudia Faniello, Brooke, Marie Claire Attard Bason, Danica Muscat, Tinatin Japaridze and Karen DeBattista. Until next year, in Sweden, we urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter.
