In 2011, Glen Vella won the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the track One Life composed by Paul Giordimaina with lyrics by Fleur Balzan even though the international critics has somewhat selected Richard Edwards and his entry Finally which he co-wrote with Jan Van Dijck, which in turn finished in second place. In a recent interview with Wayne Aquilina on the ONE Television programme Kelma Bejn Tnejn, Glen Vella revealed that had he been a judge rather than one of the competing artists, the decision would have been simple due to the fact that he was somewhat gobsmacked by Richard Edwards' performance.

Since his first runner-up finish at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, Richard Edwards has returned to the event in 2012, with the track Look at Me Now co-written with Jan Van Dijck with which he managed a respectable fifth place and in 2013 managed a sixth place finish with the song Wonderful Today performed in duet with Petra and thirteenth place with Fall Like Rome a co-write between Gerard James Borg, Magnus Kaxe and Philip Vella. In the meantime, Glen Vella has managed to make the most of his experience at the Eurovision Song Contest garnering contacts all over Europe which have helped him with new material and with giving performances abroad. One Life failed to get through to the final with just one (1) point but Glen was never discouraged and would love to return to the world of the Eurovision Song Contest should the right song come along and should the rules permit it. Glen Vella, the male vocalist who represented Malta at the 2011 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the track One Life composed by Paul Giordimaina to the lyrics of Fleur Balzan has just recorded a cover of the track You're The Voice in a duet with Pamela with whom he has collaborated on a series of original tracks and covers across the years. Amongst them was the song Loved By You composed by Paul Giordimaina to the lyrics of Fleur Balzan, which made it to the semi-finals of the 2008 Malta Song for Europe competition.

Glen was aiding Kevin Borg which his participation in this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest whilst Pamela has been out of the spotlight since representing her country as a backing vocalist in 2010 and 2011 respectively. They are currently working together on a brand new project entitled Junction apart from leading the Gospel Choir known as Animae which has been around for the past couple of years. Glen has never shied away from stating that he would love to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest once more whilst Pamela has seemingly stopped participating as a lead vocalist, something which is quite disappointing unfortunately. This cover was recorded in support of a concert which is being organised by both vocalists and their students noting that they are both leading vocal trainers. In the months leading up to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, Kevin Borg was the outright favourite to the win the local competition and thus represent the country in the international spectacle which was set to take place in Malmo, Sweden. Needing You co-written with Thomas Thornholm, Danne Attlerud, Michael Clauss and Simon Gribbe was a beautiful ballad but the international judges were right to select Tomorrow co-written by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek with vocals provided by Gianluca because the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 was somewhat presided by an endless amount of ballads. The result truly spoke for itself, as both performances of the semi-final and the final were met with a top ten finish, the first for Malta since 2005 when Chiara had performed the track Angel.

Following the final of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, there were calls of impropriety over the significance of the professional jury. One has to keep in mind that the jury is also present during the Eurovision Song Contest and they did select Malta as their favourite entry in the semi-final. Thus, it is another reason why the juries should be given more importance. The Maltese public has unfortunately made the wrong selection on more than one count, including in 2006 when they selected I Do sung by Fabrizio Faniello, in 2007 when they selected Vertigo performed by Olivia Lewis, in 2008 when they selected Vodka sung by Morena and in 2011 when they selected Glen Vella with his song One Life. The public has to be commended for the choices made in 2009 with regards to What If We sung by Chiara and 2012 when Kurt Calleja won with This is The Night.

In all of the aforementioned years, the first choices of the jury had noticeable more chance of achieving success abroad including Echoes of Gaia performed by Natasha & Charlene in 2006, Sunrise sung by Claudia Faniello in 2008 and Finally sung by Richard Edwards in 2011. Tele-voting in Malta has been known to favour people based on their reputable name whilst the jury, especially the foreign ones have the faculty of voting for the best package. I support the current system of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest that gives the jury the chance to select the entry. Anton Attard, Head of the Maltese Delegation has already confirmed our participation at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest and will be hoping to implement some changes in the selection format. In 2011, Glen Vella represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest with the track One Life composed by Paul Giordimaina and penned by Fleur Balzan. It was rather unfortunate not to see him qualify by a mere one point especially following such a brilliant performance on the night. Glen has increased his fanbase over the past couple of years and at the moment, he is in Sweden supporting Gianluca, this years' Maltese representative. Glen is a major fan of the Eurovision Song Contest and has gone on record stating that he would absolutely love to return to the competition in the future should the right track come along.

SVT, host broadcaster of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 invited Glen Vella to attend the reception held last night in accordance with this years' competition. Glen Vella has notoriously earned himself the title of one of the leading male performers in the country over a period of time due hard work, dedication and pure loyalty to all of his followers. Since representing Malta in the 2011 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest held in Dusseldorf, he has gone onto release at least two follow up singles which have been given airplay on the leading commercial station in Malta, that being 89.7 Bay Radio and has earned a number of accolades within the nations' leading award ceremonies. Nevertheless, in these past couple of weeks, he has been touring quite a but noting visits to the Scandinavian country of Sweden and also the United Kingdom where two separate OGAE events were taking place. The performances which he gave in both showcases received rapturous applause and that continues to confirm his standing amongst the fans of the international community of the Eurovision Song Contest, who got to know him through the faith put in him by the Maltese public. The opportunities that have come with his representation are worth to be noted especially due to a number of collaborations which are seemingly taking place within each particular event.

The backdrop for the event in the United Kingdom was the Chancellors Hotel in Manchester and Glen Vella was one of the small number of guests invited to entertain the present audience. Another particular individual who garnered a lot of media attention was none other than the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest runner-up Scott Fitzgerald whom many will recall finishing just behind Celine Dion with his song Go by just a mere one point. Turning back the clock, it would have been quite intriguing to see how things could have been for the renowned female performer who has become a leading lady in the world music industry. Glen Vella and Scott Fitzgerald got on very well together because they had some elements in common, noting that the Maltese performed failed to qualify from the semi-final at the expense of Switzerland which managed to garner just one point more hence forth, Scott could somewhat sympathize with him over the result he had achieved. The two performers sung together a number of tracks including Save Your Kisses for Me by The Brotherhood of Man but there were a number of solo performances of several songs including This Is My Life and Popular amongst others. Glen continues to represent the country in the best possible manner. Have a look at his time in the United Kingdom below and stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

Glen Vella, one of the nations' most notable names in the local music industry both before and after representing Malta in the 2011 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song One Life composed by Paul Giordimaina and penned by Fleur Balzan which had only failed to make it through to the finals by a mere one point. It has just come to the attention of the editorial board that in recent days, Glen was actually on the road promoting his music once more, this time in Sweden which will be playing host to the continental event in a couple of months time. In fact, the showcase organised by the OGAE Branch in Sweden took place in Harrys Katrineholm which is known to be quite a popular nightclub. Various local and foreign media outlets were covering the event and therefore, there was quite good exposure attributed to the event.

Glen Vella was one of the six acts which received the invite to appear in the event amongst; Lys Assia (Switzerland 1956, 1957, 1958), Joan Franka (Netherlands 2012), Sinplus (Switzerland 2012), Esther Hart (Netherlands 2003) and Birgitta Haudkal (Iceland 2003). During the evening, Glen took to the evening to perform a number of tracks starting with his Eurovision entry One Life before performing an acoustic version of Knockin' on a Heaven's Door in a duet with Joan Franka, which was very well enjoyed by the people present, so much so that the two are in contact to work together on a track in the very near future. Nevertheless, he followed with a cover of the track This Is My Life which represented Iceland back in 2008 and then ended the show by singing a medley of Swedish hits from the Eurovision Song Contest. Glen would like to wish all of the readers of this portal, a huge thanks for all the support shown throughout the years.

The Public Broadcasting Services had taken a risk by putting on the programme Xarabank many years back with Peppi Azzopardi at the helm of a Where's Everybody production and it did ultimately pay off noting that the coverage of the several subjects has people interested in seeing different issues being tackled live on television with experts on the respective fields. The Eurovision Song Contest or rather Malta's participation has been subject to a number of programmes throughout the year and during the actual weeks of the competition, there is a special focus and during this years' special broadcasting, former representative Glen Vella hinted that he would love another shot should the right opportunity come along for him to try again.

Glen Vella took to the stage on behalf of Malta during the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with the song One Life where accompanied by the likes of Pamela, Isabelle and Angela, he failed to make it through to the final finishing in eleventh place within the semi-final, missing out by just one point. The extremely popular performer is one of the artists who has openly spoken about making a return alongside the likes of Chiara as mentioned in our exclusive interview. Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest comes to an artist because he would have dreamt of the opportunity growing up and when experiencing it, could be somewhat even more enticing. In recent months, Glen has been working extremely diligently on a number of new tracks noting that his latest mix is currently being played on 89.7 Bay Radio having also been a guest during the 2011 Malta Music Awards where he performed the track Lie.
