In 2009, Norway swept to victory as Alexander Rybak charmed the public and the professional jury with his performance of Fairytale but following that, the Scandinavian country had seemingly been on going through a whirlwind of disappointment. Nevertheless, all changed this year as hype grew stronger in anticipation for their entry I Feed You My Love performed by Margaret Berger which finished in fourth place, their best result since that victory. NRK, the broadcaster responsible for the participation of Norway has already confirmed participation in Denmark and it seems that they will be going all out with the pre-selection.

Vivi Stenberg, the woman who took over the Melodi Grand Prix selection process last year is currently looking for the songs which will be competing to represent Norway within the next twelve months. 'I want good songs that reflect the music genres we like to listen to in Norway. I hope to be surprised so pleasre think up something new an exciting'. This years' entry might have been thought to be somewhat marmite but that does not mean that it was not set to be liked by the general population and successfully did well with both the public and the juries respectibely. It seems that the semi-finals will be done away with for next years' Melodi Grand Prix stating that changes will be implemented with the aim of promoting the songs that will be competing for the highest honour. NRK are currently designing a model of programmes which will see a build-up in the presentation.

Vivi Stenberg, a musician in her own right has also spoken about the importance of Norwegian talent and thus songwriters from Norway will somewhat be preferred but nevertheless, submissions from abroad are also extremely welcome. If you are interested in submitting songs to compete in next years' edition of the Melodi Grand Prix, then make sure to read through the English regulations which could be accessed through the official website of NRK. All of the entries which will be hoping to get through to the final stages have to be submitted by the 15th September 2014. Remember, that next years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is taking place on the 6th, 8th and 10th May in Denmark. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news

Since the introduction of the jury and tele-voting system, it seems that the anticipation for the split vote is relatively high by viewers of the Eurovision Song Contest, which this year amassed around one hundred and seventy million according to an earlier press release issued by the official website of the international event. In the past four years, the European Broadcasting Union had released the total points of each entry as given by both the jury and the tele-voting but due to the implementation of a brand new system, they have decided to publish the average placing of each nation through both jury and tele-voting.

The results of the first semi-final were quite predictable to be honest noting that Only Teardrops by Emmelie de Forest for Denmark was the varage with both the juries and public at large with Russia's entry What If finishing second in both as well. The juries and the public agreed on seven of the ten qualifiers in general witht he jury opting to select Austria rather than Lithuania and the public preferring Montenero and Croatia over Moldova and Estonia respectively. Montenegro have somewhat managed to gather favour with the public whilst Austria still hold the cards in their hands when it comes to the juries stating tele-voting was rigged a couple of years back.

Denmark - 167 (1 / 1)

Russia - 156 (2 / 2)

Ukraine - 140 (4 / 3)

Moldova - 95 (3 / 11)

Belgium - 75 (7 / 7)

The Netherlands - 75 (6 / 9)

Belarus - 64 (9 / 8)

Ireland - 54 (10 / 6)

Lithuania - 53 (11 / 5)

Estonia - 52 (8 / 13)

Serbia - 46 (15 / 12)

Montenegro - 41 (14 / 4)

Croatia - 38 (13 / 10)

Austria - 27 (5 / 15

Cyprus - 11 (12 / 14)

Slovenia - 8 (16 / 16)

In the second semi-final, things were rather enticing and this was very much what several opinionists had stated when it came to discussing the quality of the tracks competing. As a matter of fact, the jury and the tele-voting agreed on six songs in total, including jury winners Malta whose entry Tomorrow performed by Gianluca managed seventh place with the public. This was a coup for the Mediterranean nation who had never secured any type of first place result in the past. The jury opted to send through to the final acts such as Israel and San Marino rather than Romania and Hungary whilst the public at large preferred Bulgaria and Switzerland to Armenia and Georgia. For the second straight participation, it seems that Armenia is continously losing the public appeal which had originated in their initial participations.

Azerbaijan - 139 (2 / 3)

Greece - 121 (3 / 2)

Norway - 120 (4 / 4)

Malta - 118 (1 / 7)

Romania - 83 (13 / 1)

Iceland - 72 (8 / 8)

Armenia - 69 (7 / 11)

Hungary - 66 (11 / 9)

Finland - 64 (6 / 10)

Georgia - 63 (5 / 13)

San Marino - 47 (10 / 12)

Bulgaria - 45 (17 / 6)

Switzerland - 41 (16 / 5)

Israel - 40 (9 / 14)

Albania - 31 (12 / 15)

FYR Macedonia - 28 (14 / 16)

Latvia - 13 (15 / 13)

In the final, things somewhat remained pretty much the same noting that the countries which had performed well in their respective semi-finals managed to enter in the top ten with the inclusion of Italy who performed brilliantly in both the jury and the public vote. This was not the case with their entry last year noting that Nina Zilli had managed to get her top ten score thanks to mostly jury support as the public put her in a lower mid-table position. Marco Mengoni and his entry L'Essenziale managed eighth and tenth respectively to finish in seventh place just ahead of Malta whose entry this time round finished in ninth place both the jury and public vote. On average, Spain has managed to finish last in both the jury and the public vote but unfortunately the disappointing result was given to Ireland with Ryan Dolan managing a decent mid-table with the public as opposed to a bottom three with juries.

Denmark - 281 (1 / 1)

Azerbaijan - 234 (2 / 3)

Ukraine - 214 (6 / 2)

Norway - 191 (4 / 6)

Russia - 174 (10 / 5)

Greece - 152 (14 / 4)

Italy - 126 (8 / 10)

Malta - 120 (9 / 9)

The Netherlands - 114 (7 / 11)

Hungary - 84 (21 / 8)

Belgium - 71 (11 / 17)

Moldova - 71 (5 / 19)

Romania - 65 (24 / 7)

Sweden - 62 (3 / 18)

Georgia - 50 (13 / 23)

Belarus - 48 (22 / 13)

Iceland - 47 (17 / 12)

Armenia - 41 (19 / 15)

United Kingdom - 23 (15 / 22)

Estonia - 19 (16 / 24)

Germany - 18 (20 / 16)

Lithuania - 17 (25 /21)

France - 14 (12 / 25)

Finland - 13 (18 / 20)

Spain - 8 (26 / 26)

Ireland - 5 (23 / 14)

escflashmalta.com has also noted two predominant differences between the jury and the public vote in the final noting that Sweden managed to gather a strong representation thanks to the professional panels in the participating countries managing a third place whilst Romania climbed up the board thanks to the general public. Unfortunately both entries were drowned down by the other half of the score as Sweden could only manage eighteenth in tele-voting whilst Romania was third from last in the jury. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news about the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest but in the meantime, keep following for news about the local music scene.

Tomorrow, co-written by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek was successfully interpreted on the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest by Gianluca as the lead vocalist, Samaria Bezzina and Louise Ann Bugeja Tate as the backing vocalists and Christopher Tate, Kenny D'Ugo and Gabriel Cassar as part of the onstage band. Nevertheless, the aftermath of the eighth place finish for Malta, the best result at the prestigious event since 2005 is proving to be highly successful with the song entering the Irish Charts.

Ireland, seven time winning nation of the Eurovision Song Contest were represented by Only Love Survives performed by Ryan Dolan which finished in an underserving last place. The nation known for artists such as Sinead O'Connor, Westlife, Ronan Keating and Enya amongst others have a relatively strong music industry and to see Malta amongst another eight entries to chart from this years' Eurovision Song Contest is remarkably outstanding. As a matter of fact, Gianluca's entry Tomorrow which was published on the official compilation released by Universal Music managed to peark at number #69.

  • #5 Emmelie de Forest (Denmark)
  • #13 Ryan Dolan (Ireland)
  • #31 Robin Stjernberg (Sweden)
  • #54 Margaret Berger (Norway)
  • #69 Gianluca Bezzina (Malta)
  • #71 Anouk (The Netherlands)
  • #94 Cascada (Germany)
  • #99 Krista Siegfrids (Finland)

The list of eight countries which have managed to chart in Ireland might somewhat reflect the tele-voting portion of the vote that took place on Saturday night which was not fully realised in the final voting shown on screen as read out by Nicky Byrne of Westlife fame. Amongst the countries which did not receive any points and yet were still granted favour with the public, there were Finland, Germany, Malta and Norway. Once more, this is another success which the country should truly celebrate. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more news in the coming days. Eurovision 2013: The Final - LIVE

Good Evening! Welcome to the escflashmalta.com live coverage of the 58th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest which is taking place Malmö, Sweden. Earlier this week, thirty-three (33) countries competed in the semi-final stage of the competition, which was split up into two, one held on Tuesday and the other held on Thursday. Malta was a qualifier from the latter with Gianluca and his entry Tomorrow co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat managing to make it a second year in a row for the Mediterranean nation. This evening, they will be joining the pre-qualified countries including those who financially contribute the most towards the event on an annual basis; France, Italy, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom as well as the hosts for the year, Sweden.

In recent years, social media has become an important tool to get a message across and escflashmalta.com has been proud to keep you updated through both Facebook and Twitter whilst bringing you exclusive content through Flickr and YouTube respectively. This evening, the special coverage that is annually planned is set to be conducted by our Senior Editor, Antoine Farrugia as well as guests; Brooke, winner of the Best Solo Award at this years' edition of the Malta Music Awards as well as Lauren White, an upcoming Irish singer/songwriter who most recently signed a Publishing Deal with the Universal Music Group. Our support goes towards Malta who will be performing at position number #09 this evening. Follow the Final as of 21:00 CET on Television Malta.

The Show (Part 1)

So here we are today, the Grand Final of the Eurovision this year! Opening starts with flashbacks from last year and Loreen getting many twelve points and being crowned the winner in Baku, Azerbaijan. Now, we see a snail crawling and a shot of a hot air baloon. This 'snail' is now travelling on many things like cars and other transport material. I think it has to do with the butterfly, maybe it's a caterpillar in the end! It got to France and now it's on the snow! This caterpillar seems to be a huge thing in this opening. It slept and woke up again, this time in Malmo! As I thougt, it's this year's theme the buterfly! Welcome to Sweden and to Malmo! It starts right here!

A choir is on stage all clad in black! It consists of a huge number of singers. The song just went from a ballad operatic one, to a more up-tempo song! People are all waving their flags! The song is 'We Write The Story' written by ABBA, the Swedes who got fame thanks to Eurovision! It being sung by B&B choir! On the same 'bridge' that Loreen was last Tuesday! We have the singers from the Final travelling on it carrying the flags by other people infront of them! There was Gianluca, our own representative, I wish him all the greatest luck for today! This is pretty amazing, it's really different, nice to see all the singers unite! Anouk is dancing her way through the bridge in a funny way! After they walked the whole bridge, the ones carrying the flag goes on stage with the flags in various lines! This is just perfect for my eyes! I love this opening! This song is available to download from iTunes! The waves are the attention now!

And here's the host of 2013! Petra Mede is clad all in pink, a very girlish dress I must say! Wasn't expecting this dress on her at all! The song we just heard is the new anthem for eurovision and it was written by two members of ABBA together with Avicii. We must admit, she's right that it is getting bigger and bigger every year! Petra said that this show is being aired in 44 countries including Australia, although it's 5am right there! Petra is explaining the voting method after all the songs are performed! Nobody can vote for their own country! She's explaining the official application for the Eurovision and vote from there! Petra said 'May the best song win and let the competition begin!' Goodluck to every single contestant!

France

Wish i could understand what she's saying... i love the melody very sexy and very rock. Different but i like it and the singers amazing raspy voice. Emotions are incredible. (Brooke)

First up is Amandine Bourgeois with her song 'L'enfer Et Moi'! Amandine is one of the Big 5 countries! Great audience tonight! I hope the sound is good since she's arranging her headphone from the beginning. I like the outit she's wearing and her hair is really nice today compared to rehearsals! This song is quite the same except for the chorus where there's a specific beat. At least, she's singing on a stand cause if she wasn't I'm sure she'd be going around the stage like crazy all the time. The song is getting better with the guitars all the time! Vocally. this is great! This is a really nice show although I would imagine some dancers on stage with Amandine, it would've looked so much! Huge applause from the audience! Liked this one! (Antoine Farrugia)

Ok I like the dark feel and the rock chick feel to it, but personally I cannot stand Eurovision songs not in English. I lose interest half way through. Sounds like it should be on an advert for Bodyform lol (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5I1Ru3GdEQ

Lithuania

Graham Northon said "you'd dress better to come and see the contest" that to me explains it all. His look i dont like. But the song is strong but there are stronger. Nothing special. (Brooke)

Something from Lithuania and Andrius Pojavis. He passed from the first semi-final! He's dressed as he was in the semi-final as many acts will obviously be. I don't know something really. How this song passed through the semi-finals, that's what I don't know Andrius. This is always going the same and not a single change is in the song. Plain simple too much for Eurovision. Is it possible, not having any better songs to send from Lithuania?! I never got the concept of this song at all. I don't think this will be breaking through the score board at all. I think it will get a position towards the end, unfortunatley for them but this doesn't simply gain a good position. (Antoine Farrugia)

I don't like it and I was baffled that it got through the semi final. It's boring. The song is weak, he is a weak performer and the backing singers are boring. "I'm not in love with it" sorry Lithuania. (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVzarlAIXKE

Moldova

Not fond of her dress... and again.. i ask myself... why sing in a language half of europe wont understand? i cannot relate to whatever she sang. Vocal technique sounds really good. I like the dress gimmick. (Brooke)

Aliona Moon, the one who had the big big dress from the first semi-final from Moldova with O Mie is next. Vocally Aliona started really shaky. Still having the same hair-style, I believe Jedward are a bit jealous now. Aliona is not so good today vocally, she's not hitting all the notes. This chereography is just amazing, I like it way too much. Pasha Parfeny is also on the piano too. It's getting better from Aliona now! It's getting that vibe in the arena when the dres goes up! Strong vocals now! The song reached a near-perfect point! I liked it from the first I listened to it! Turned out to be not as expected but still really good! Deserves a middle position on the score board. (Antoine Farrugia)

I'm convinced I have heard the melody of the chorus before. Reminds me a bit of Serbias winner a few years ago. Great hair and only good thing about this song is the dress. (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUUT21uOtGY

Finland

Very similar to Hot n Cold & i kissed a girl by Katy Perry. I think the song is old pop now. If she makes it in the top 10 it's because the controversy and the promotion she got over the famous kiss. (Brooke)

Marry Me and Krista Siegfrids for Finland. She got through last Thursday from the second semi-final. This is one of the favourites. She way too adorbale in that dress! She doesn't have the same breath as last time or she started way with too much energy. The backdrop still is just too much for me! We're in Sweden not Las Vegas! A really girlish performance this one is! It's nice though! The song is quite enjoyable and has that beat that keeps you taking notice of it no matter what. Too many fireworks on stage, though they go a lot with this song! Great perofrmance from Krista! Here's the kiss once again! This will get a good position I think. (Antoine Farrugia)

It's something that reflects the charts now, very Katy Perry. Very catchy and love the lyrics!! I'm in awe love it all!! THAT'S THE WINNER!!!! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL9-8OlUGHM

Spain

Boring! Was bored by the second line she sang. Very pitchy. (Brooke)

Big 5 again! El Sueno De Morfeo (ESDM) with Contigo Hasta El Final which translates to With You Until the End. What a great introduction, it gives you a different vibe to other songs, so folk-ish! She wore a really nice yellow dress with gold. She's wearing shoes today, gold sandals! She's way too shaky for me! This song is getting better musically! Turned into a pop-rock one! Are those shoes or no? I'm confused! A really nice song though! I'm enjoying it but I think they won't get a great position. She sang her final line in English! WOO! Great ending and good feedback! (Antoine Farrugia)

Has the Celtic theme. Be nice listening to it on a Sunday, but it can't make up its mind what it is. Too many ideas mixed into one. Although I like the bagpipes riff but to be Spanish singing always sounds out of tune(Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkyXFopQQZs

Belgium

Love kills over and over...?? Does it?? Isnt he the youngest singer there?? Plus... not really the message you wanna get across. Production of this song is beautiful. He scares me, i dont know why. (Brooke)

Roberto Bellarosa with Love Kills for Belgium. He got through last Tuesday! Vocally he started really good today! This isn't one of the favourites, infact it got through as a surprise. The chereography is based lyrical and we see the lyrics on the backdrop at some points. Vocally, he isn't any good too much now! The song is quite mainstream for me, you find many songs like this! Another thing, is that he is not helping the performance at all just by standind on a stand. Not a good thing to do with this song Belgium! The song is good but it has something missing I don't know why I'm finding it hard to like it! Not sure about the position! (Antoine Farrugia)

he just ruined it for himself jumping up and down like that!!! Lol! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW2LdphU7TU

Estonia

I think she is beautiful, lovely smile. She seems like she's having a great time singing about whatever she's singing about. (Brooke)

Estonia, Birgit Oigemeel and Et Uus Saaks Alguse up next! she got through from the first semi-final which was quite a surprise for me to pass since it wasn't one of the favourites. The shots start black and white and it is just so nice to see a different screen at least! This is one of the most melodic languages I think! She's clad in all white like last time! I think this will do not bad. I'm liking it more than last time a lot! It's making sense to me finally! Her voice is too nice and she's really good vocally today! Such an angelic moment in this Eurovision which surely makes difference from the other songs since most of them are up beat songs! The vibe in the audience is so much better today than in the semis! I'm finding it quite nice today! It might get a good position for Estonia! (Antoine Farrugia)

Start of it sounds like Bwitched's song Blame it on the Weatherman!! But it's a beautiful song, very uplifting and she's lovely to watch, even though she's wearing her bed sheet! I think it's gonna do well!!(Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLOunvCYRkM

Belarus

If i had to close my eyes and listen to this song i would be able to guess by the intro it's a eurovision song. They should create a genre called Eurovision. Fed up of the same songs! That is why i like Malta! (Brooke)

Solayoh and Alyona Lanskaya for Belarus. The disco ball is back on stage from last Tuesday! Quite a nice opening for me! That dress is too short I think, it's like Eleftheria Eleftheriou from Greece last year. Vocally, she's really bad. I don't know but the singers are stressed a lot today or they got too much energy! She's not much of a dancer for sure! The song is good, I find it quite an interesting song if many of those boom boom booms at the back were reduced because it gets always the same after some time! Musical break where Alyona shows her bad dancing skills, sorry! This is enjoyable though! The song is so so good for me! This will get a middle poition in the charts! Great response from the audience! (Antoine Farrugia)

The same Greek/Turkish beat that we have heard every year for the past 10 years! But again, I like it I would dance to it, reminds me of Holly Valance "Kiss Kiss" LOOK AT THOSE legs. Repetitive, but half of Europe like that sound! Every year..... (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7wL0JbuK2M

Malta

Graham Northon likes the song A LOT! So simple and Perfect!!! Breath of fresh air!!! Well done Gianluca. The audience is singing their heart out! (Brooke)

Malta up next! Goodluck Doctor Bezzina! Tomorrow is the song! The clip before is so nice, we see how Malta is nice! Let's hope he will be good! GOODLUCK GIANLUCA! By the time the ukele starts clapping is the thing you hear and people going Oh Oh! He got his smile back on the stage! All the performers seem so happy to be back on stage again! The audience are enjoying it too continuing the Oh Ohs all the way through! The song is really good, relaxing from the one before this! Vocally, gianluca is good too/! THe catwalk thing he did is just so good! He's enjoying it way too much! He doesn't have any breath left unfortunately! Was a great performance! Great job Gianluca! (Antoine Farrugia)

Hey hey!! I'm with you guys!! Lovely sweet song! Ill be voting! That's all I have to say  BEST OF LUCK!!! "Hey soul sister-very like that and I've goosebumps hearing everyone sing! You finally got it right Malta-looks so happy to be there!! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxVHnhu1aK4

Russia

Such a strong ballad. Top 5 for me! Goosebumps all over! (Brooke)

Dina Garipova, What If are up next for Russia! She got through from the frist semi-final last Tuesday! She starts off a bit shaky too! She has got a nice voice for sure! I think she's a bit stressed today, it sound in her voice! This is one of the favourite ballads this year! I'm finding it rather a bit boring, it never changes! Vocally, this isn't the best performance Dina gave. The bridge is so nice! My favourite part of this performance is when the audience light their bulbs together! So so nice! Vocally, she's not good at all! But I think this will gain a quite good position, maybe top 15! (Antoine Farrugia)

Khloe Kardashian singing for Russia  its a beautiful melody and I'm a sucker for strings. Very uplifting and positive.. "What if" this wins..... Nah don't think so! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOa-hNQWUxQ

Germany

Summer 2013 Anthem!!!! Feels like a party all of a sudden. Love it. (Brooke)

Germany and Natalie Horler from Cascada and Glorious is up next! This is one of the most favourites entries and believed to get back the Eurovision in Germany. She's glamorous for sure! I jsut can't stand this revised version shortening it! She's way before the music and she is one of the best performers on the stage today! She's insane jumping and dancing on that staricase. She's performing the song way too good! A really good contender for the win I think! It got a bit more personal, toning it down! Before Cascada gets down the staircase, and the song turns into a magnificent entry for sure! She's writing history! Vocally, she's not really good though! This will be top 5 for sure! Great response form the audience! (Antoine Farrugia)

I like Cascada and I don't think it's like Euphoria. But it's not a winner. I was expecting more and I think something is missing from the chorus... Raging!! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9mPA7Max4c

Armenia

His voice is nice. He needs to improve his look, big time. Cool soft rock song. (Brooke)

Lonely Planet, Dorians and Armenia up next! They got through last Thursday! Tony Iommi form Black Sabbath wrote this song! It starts out so nice! He's a bit late contrary to Cascada! Vocally, he's super! This is a really rock song by a great band! Still, I think it has that something missing! His voice is jut so so nice to listen to! I still think there is way too many jeans fabric on stage! The song is getting better in my opinion! His riffs are spot on on pitch! This song is so nice! I don't know how, but many are ranking it really low! I think it won't be high on the final scoreboard, but not the worst positions, maybe mid scorboard position! Better than Thursday I think! (Antoine Farrugia)

The only thing standing out to me is his eyebrows. BORING and whiny blah! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi97NI7pFHc

The Netherlands

I don't get the fuss about this song. Nice melody in chorus verses are slightly boring. Anouk is a great singer and this song does not show off her voice. Backing Vocals are stunning! (Brooke)

Anouk and her Birds falling from the rooftops for The Netherlands! One of the hottest to win! The beginning is just great! I wasn't a fan of this song at all until last Tuesday! Her voice is so clear but it is a bit shaky! This song is beautiful compared to others! The audience is loving it, screaming all the way through! This may be a bit too slow for Eurovision, but it is great let's admit it! This is a performance everyone should enjoy! I don't have words to describe it. I think this will do great tonight! Amazing that's all I can say! Great job Anouk! (Antoine Farrugia)

I love this song!! Love her voice and it's so different to anything we have ever seen!! It's my favourite next to Finland! But I'm singing it constantly!! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XinhotCXE-4

Romania

I cannot stand this song. Im off to make some more popcorn and a cup of tea. (Brooke)

Cezar, Romania and It's My Life up next. He got through last Thursday as a big surprise for everyone. Why are there people screaming for him? I don't find it interesting in any way. Here ends the ugly part of the song and we go to the uglier part of the song. How did he pass? How did they let him on stage? That outfit is really not nice to look at. I think Cezar should stick to opera and forget his pop-opera attempt. The bridge shows his vocals a bit better, but I still don't like it. First entry from Romania that I don't like in all the years they participated. No, this won't do well I hope! (Antoine Farrugia)

I see Rylan from X Factor with a voice. An unbelievable voice and should be on Andrew Lloyd Webbers next show. At this point beyond words so find your own. Not a winner. (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV3xp5ZXSYA

United Kingdom

UK need to send a good singer like Bonnie Tyler with a GOOD SONG. Good perfromance but there are loads of great and better song in the final tonight. (Brooke)

Bonnie Tyler from United Kingdom singing Believe In Me. She's already a superstar around the world so I don't know what she's doing here. What the hell just got in her voice in the beginning? Her ooutfit is just plain simple. The song is nice but like lsat year, it's old for the Eurovision. Her voice is so good now! Although, there are some notes off at times. This performance is getting better. Her voice is just so so beautiful. She's walking the catwalk and she reached the platform where it got slightly up a bit! I think they will get a better position than last year! (Antoine Farrugia)

Hello 1980! I don't understand why they're sending oldies each year.. I think it might do ok, the chorus is singable but just can't get the thoughts of her kissing her husband out of my head! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HALTU11QE6g

Sweden

I had to raise the volume during this song. It's BEAUTIFUL!!! I wouldnt mind having the next years eurovision in Sweden again. No. 1 for me!. (Brooke)

Sweden is up next and Robin Stjernberg with his song 'You'. This is the host country and ofcourse, the audience went crazy! He's wearing white and beige! Audience is clapping and screaming every single time! The song is so so nice and vocally he's really good! this is a great performance I think! Whoa! He missed some words! They got off the platform they are using on stage! And they went back up again! Can't understand why it is there really! This is one of my personal favourites but I thought it would come across better! That high note was great in my opinion, was needed in the song! It will get another good ranking for the Sweden! (Antoine Farrugia)

Ryan's brother. I like it, it's catchy and his vocal is amazing. He should be swinging from trees in the jungle!! Sweden never cease to amaze me with their pop! (Lauren White)

Hungary

I still wonder how this song made it through. Is he a singer or a rapper? (Brooke)

Hungary with their representative ByeAlex with Kedvesem which was the first qualifier last Thursday. Great feedback from the audience! The audience is so hyped up tonight! This is a rather boring song this year. Don't know how this got through. Many are saying that it will gain a top 10 position, I really don't know why! Vocally, nothing special at all and I think that the song didn't take much time to be written. It is boring to death. If I try to close my eyes, I'd sleep! As what happened to The Netherlands, I didn't know what to write, same happens here but in a bad way. No, just a no! (Antoine Farrugia)

it's nice and sweet not my cup of tea and I see we have a Donna Donna McCaul lookalike as a backing vocalist. I'm bored though of the same two guitar strings being plucked! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVJddk9YXZo

Denmark

I love the instrumentation of this song. I think its very similar to one of my fav songs in the charts right now. Her voice is very particular and very warm. Top 5 for me. (Brooke)

Denmark's representative Emmelie De Forest, who is one of the favourites today with 'Only Teardrops'. WHOA! Great feedback! this is truly the favourite in the audience! I like this song too and a lot not just like any other song, but sill I don't think it will win even though she has what it takes to win! Visually it's great, as well as vocally! She's feeling the win coming, I can see it in here smile! She's enjoying it more than last Tuesday! The audience is loving it too! Great show from Denmark today! Can this be the winner?! It can, it really can. Not quite sure if it will with the juries! Who knows?! I'm sure this will be heard a lot through Summer! (Antoine Farrugia)

I am always a fan of Denmark. Love her voice. Mixture of Shakira and Dido. Celtic theme again and great build up I am interested! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6mnUCP6FMM

Iceland

His voice is amazing. I bet he'd be a great Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. Nice song but would have preferred him singing in English. (Brooke)

Eg A Lif with Eythor Ingi for Iceland. This got through last Thursday! Such a beautiful beggining this song has! This is the most melodic language I have ever heard in my entire life! All the singers are happy today, all smiling a lot! Vocally, he's really really good! Though, it's turning out a bit boring! This song has really miniature changes in it! The thing that shines is his voice which is really relaxing to be honest! the backing vocalists got on stage now and they're singing the first line while he's improvising. He will get a middle ranking I think! Obviously, with juries it got a good position! (Antoine Farrugia)

Ugh the language is as depressing as the country. He is singing as if there's a lump of vomit in his throat. Boring its like it should be a National anthem. NEXT (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b208y41n9CQ

Azerbaijan

Wow!!!!! the choreography is amazing!!! Beautiful song. Azerbaijan always bring great songs to the eurovision. (Brooke)

Farid's Hold Me is up next for Azerbaijan. This is one of the best visual performances ever on the Eurovision. He started shaky again. He's shaking, he's obviously really excited. He was excited in rehearsals so now it's obvious he'll be more excited. This performance is just so high-class! He was a bit off I think after jumping from that box! The long dress is taking on the stage! I don't think it is represetning anything. This is one of the favourites too! Such a difficult final to be hinest today! The most perfect vidual performance I ever seen in the Eurovision history! Will he take the Eurovision back to The Land Of Fire?! Top 10 I think! (Antoine Farrugia)

Looks like the guy that won for Russia years ago. Think the staging is brilliant. But the song doesn't stand out. Whiny!!! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4PWtkrDi-s

Greece

Another strange song! The only good thing about is that Alcohol is free! I wouldnt be surprised if it makes in the top 10.. (Brooke)

Koza Mostra and Agathon Iakovidis with thier free alcohol for Greece! This song is so so enjoyable! Whoa! I can't stand sitting down to this! This is beyond perfect to dance with! I'm screaming Hey Hey Hey all the way through! Alcohol Is Free guys! Whoa! I'm really liking this!! Is something wrong with me thinking it will end up with the top 10! I'm liking it way too much! The one thing that concerns me is the old man singing, it isn't that original! Glowing instruments are sure great! I love it, really! This was so needed after two ballads! Well done Greece, once again! (Antoine Farrugia)

I love the greek bouzouki-very infectious. Very like Madness! I actually really like this!! It's fun!! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocFhFNxu5Jg

Ukraine

Beautiful song, beautiful singer, beautiful dress, beautiful voice. She wore a stunning dress in the rehearsals i dont know why she didnt wear it. But again.. the song is beautiful. Very lion king! Top 5 for me!!! (Brooke)

Ukraine's Zlata Ognevich and the giant, Igor are back with Gravity! Igor sometimes makes me think how difficult it is to live for him! Vocally, I think Zlata is the best singer in the final this year! This song is so reaching the point Zlata wanted it to when she says she wants a fairytale to be created in the arena! It's like effortless for her to sing those high notes! Great job Ukraine! Is this a mixture of Avatar and Disney as many followers of Eurovision are saying? No, it's so original! I like this one too! I hope Ukraine will get another good result for them! (Antoine Farrugia)

Pure Disney. The chorus is very Celine Dion.. That is all! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwKYuKcymZg

Italy

Brilliant song... only coz i understand italian though. The lyrics are beautiful and he's super calm on stage. Love him! (Brooke)

Marco Mengoni and L'Essenziale! Winner for X-Factor Italy and San Remo. Many are making him the winner of the Eurovision too. His voice is way too nice! At least, today he does not seem drunk on stage! I don't like that colour of the suit he's wearing! I'd prefer it if it was a black suit. Why is making his notes longer than normal? Not a really goos thing to do Marco sorry! Although, this song is really good! His voice is so nice! The song is now getting better! He's a really good singer! He was a bit off-pitch now unfortunately! It didn't come out as I expected it to! I think it will be top 3! Great take Italy! (Antoine Farrugia)

He is standing there like a soloist in a young boys choir. I'm bored. Not memorable and not Eurovision. Nice chap (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jKrwJ629Sk

Norway

I like the feel of this song. Production is very nice. Not my fav though. (Brooke)

Margaret Berger and her feeding of love from Norway. She got through last Thursday and is one of the most favourites to win! WOAH! Excellent intro! Ok, I just got back to reality! Her voice is really good but all that white is really bothering my eyes. Her complexion is already too white and that dress doesn't help at all! No, don't dance please!! She was off too! I don't find it that much interesting to be honest! The bridge is the nice thing of the song for me! It is way too simple and always the same! Though, it is one of the favourites to win! Will Margaret take the Eurovision to Norway after Alexander?! Top 7 for me! (Antoine Farrugia)

Great modern pop song. Very Robyn. Its original and dark, i like it! Gorgeous looking! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1smofAn2sE

Georgia

Such a strong melody. The chorus makes me sigh. Beautiful. Very old school though including the dress etc. (Brooke)

Waterfall from Nodi & Sophie for Georgia. This is a song I quite used to like but since last Thursday, it didn't take much on me! He's really good in his solo part in the opening. And she compliments him here! This song is lacking chemistry for me. Either it is an unuasal harmony or she's off! It got better today! Smoke all over the arena! Fire too? No, you just went overboard! She got the right pitch today! Improved a lot since Thursday! Got back my support! I love it! Top 15! Maybe!! (Antoine Farrugia)

lovely ballad. I don't really get the duet thing though like fast forward Sonny and Cher.  Nice harmonies. Not my thing. Don't think it will do well! (Lauren White)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy3AL0MUMbE

Ireland

John Travolta on stage. Nice song. (Brooke)

Ireland to end the day! Only Love Survives and Ryan Dolan! He got through last Tuesday! Ireland has such a great hsitory in Eurovision with seven nikes!  The drummers appear first! His voice is not one of my favourites to be honest, I find it rather nasal or an undeveloped voice! The drummers are the thing that matters the most it seems in this act! I don't like the backing vocalists voices! It is growing on me! Still, his voice is annoying! I quite like the song though! I think this will be a great summer hit this year along with other ESC songs! I don't know where to put this on a scoreboard! Though, goodluck! (Antoine Farrugia)

I lost to Ryan, but if ya can't beat them join them!! Best of luck Ryan and co!! Go Ireland! (Lauren White)

The Show (Part 2)

And Jean Paul Gaultier designed all the dresses for Petra Mede and he is in the audience Petra is repeating the voting system for this year including the application! Europe has the 15 minutes to vote as we go to the first recaps! Loreen is with us, awkwardly looking like a bird from The Netherlands! This is a beautiful performance of 'We Got The Power' her new single! Turned boring for me! And as the song changes, we find Loreen back on the floor like last year! She is held off from the stage hanging in air! Vocally, this is so much better than last year of Euphoria!  She took off the wings and is now wearing a long cape while singing Euphoria! Vocals are so strong! That was one hell of a performance by Loreen! Great job! Another recap while we have four more minutes to vote! You can notice how stiff this competition is this year! Petra Mede changed clothes for closing the lines! Europe stop voting now! That was a history of Eurovision is hort and now we go back to Petra Mede introducing us to Eric Saade in the greenroom! Eric who took part in 2011 with Popular for Sweden! Eric lead us to Jan Ola Sand!

Eurovision 2013: Voting Order Announced

In years gone by, the running order of the voting process was scheduled in the same manner in which the performances took place but nevertheless, the system was altered a couple of years back when the juries gained their voting priveledges back, and which now undoubtely decide half of the respective result. The European Broadcasting Union would like to make the best possible showcase for the millions of viewers watching all over the world including; China and Australia and therefore, where possible, changes in the leaderboard will be implemented just to create an exciting feeling for all to enjoy.

Valletta, the capital city of Malta will be the backdrop for the voting this evening with the spokesperson being none other than Emma Hickey, otherwise known as Jeremy's love interest in the music video for Tomorrow, which is the entry representing the country in the international music showcase. The song which is co-written by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek with vocals provided by Gianluca got through to the final round following an initial qualification phase held on Thursday. Malta was announced as the ninth country following what seemed to a nerve wracking situation. 39. Lithuania (Ignas Krupavicius)

All of the participating countries in this years' Eurovision Song Contest will be casting their votes, half of them as decided by a panel of professional experts and the other half by the million of people watching in their homes. As one could denote from the list above, there are a number of well known individuals who will be reading out the points of their country, amongst them being; Tooji (Norway), Anmary (Latvia), Lena (Germany), Alsou (Russia) and of course, the most famous one being Nicky Bryne of the former group, Westlife for Ireland. Speculation is running high that Italy did extremely well with the juries last night as opposed to Denmark who might have not scored one of the top results. This is yet to be seen. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more of the latest news.

Good Evening! Malmo, Sweden is playing host to this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and in the past couple of days, thirty-three (33) participating nations had to compete for twenty (20) elite spots in the final round of the prestigious competition leaving thirteen (13) in the lurch. This evening is relatively important considering that juries in all of the participating countries will be selecting their favourites and of course, awarding half of the points which will be allocated tomorrow. It is important to denote that Malta will be competing in the final round for the second consecutive year after the qualification of Gianluca and his entry Tomorrow from the second semi-final which took place last night. We wish him the very best of luck this evening.

escflashmalta.com thanks to Juergen Boernig, the Head of Press is currently also processing a couple of video interviews with artists who will be representing their country at the Eurovision Song Contest. As a matter of fact, stay tuned on our YouTube Page for all of the latest. In the meantime, you may also have a look at our photo gallery whilst staying up to date through both our pages on Facebook and Twitter. Coverage of the Final of the Eurovision Song Contest will be led by Antoine Farrugia, Senior Editor for escflashmalta.com alongside special guests; Lauren White who has most recently signed a Publishing Deal with Universal Music Group and Brooke, winner of the Best Solo Artist at the Malta Music Awards earlier this year.

The Show (Part 1)

SVT, host broadcaster of this years' Eurovision Song Contest should be commended on such an astonishing production and the acts selected for the opening and the interval have provided great entertainment. It's like the Olympics as the bridge is lowered and all of the finalists are in a procession like poise promoting themselves prior to the start of the actual show. Once more, Petra Mede is clad in an original Jean Paul Gaultier creation and despite not being black as worn last night, it seems to be pretty pink!

France

Amandine Bourgeois is clad in a beautiful black dress which seems to have come out of the 1920s era when charleston had been popular. The backdrop is stunning and has to be one of the most elaborate to be honest with graphic designs in the form of a wallpaper but lit within the beat. Amandine is joined on stage by two female backing vocalists and this has a lot of sass and thus coming across beautifully on screen. This has to be an intriguing openinng number and whilst, it would not have been my choice to open, it definitely gets the attention of many. She throws the microphone stand to the floor with anger. Stunning vocals, will earn a lot of points from the jury for being artistic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzsBS05a5uc

Lithuania

'I have to tell you something', how are you even competing in the final? Andrius Pojavis is lacking charm but nevertheless, managed to turn it on during the semi-final performance. This is a generic pop track which had managed to get my attention during the national final but has literally wilted. Andrius is wearing the same outfit from the semi-finals and is also joined on stage by the same team of backing vocalists. The backdrop is purple and there is nothing really wrong with this except that it is pretty boring. This is definitely a candidate for last year for singing number #2 and for being dull!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5keb7gJ-WQ

Moldova

Pasha Parfeni, the representative for Moldova last year is back on stage playing the piano and dancers are spread out across the stage for what is a pretty elaborate choreography. The staging is kept dark but nevertheless is lit up as the night sky appears. Aliona Moon is terrified this evening but nevertheless, it is defnitely not showing in the vocals. This is one of the songs which has a gimmick through the dress which changes colour and unites with the backdrop at times. Mid-way through the song and then throughout the bridge, Aliona rises to the higher point of the stage and this looks astonishing. Whoa! Impressive, I think that this will be receiving a lot of points tonight!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYfZ5foY2TE

Finland

Krista Siegfrids is back on the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest and is performing her very own Las Vegas number which features a wedding which has to be re-thought. This track has been the centre of a controversy due to the fact that the lead vocalist ends up kissing one of the backing dancers. As a matter of fact, there are both backing dancers and backing vocalists on stage, clad as groomsmen and bridesmaids respectively. This is coming across beautifully on screen and Krista is definitely a good vocalist. Well, this is going to pick up tele-votes but I am not too sure about jury votes!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TtzwNjRd3M

Spain

Ohh! Despite wearing black in the opening number held on the bridge earlier this evening, she is now clad in a flowing yellow dress. The beginning of the song on the flute is just wonderful and as we turn to the main stage, there is Raquel joined by the boys of ESDM and she is barefoot performing the song in the best possible way. I must say that this is an absolutely wonderful song but for some reason this presentation is just not working at all and the vocals are rather disappointing. I had been saying that this will not be competing for one of the last couple of spots but unfortunately, I have to say otherwise. I am not sure this will be picking up a lot of jury votes but it do a France 2012.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiLftNbTELU

Belgium

Roberto Bellarosa was one of the surprise qualifiers in the first semi-final and it seems that being clad in a suit and seen by millions of people has helped the artist garner recognition. Roberto is really performing well this evening for some reason and that could be just because the semi-final performance is out of the way. He is moving across the stage and is showing stage presence. The backdrop is featuring the title of the song and it has to be said that even I am thumping along to this one despite not thinking it would make it out of the semi-final stage. Roberto will be picking up a couple of points tonight but he will not be setting the scoreboard on fire.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3aUjfNgnJE

Estonia

This has to be one of the most wonderful ballads competing in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with Birgit wearing the same white gown she was in the semi-final. She is a brilliant vocalist and has always a stunning repertoire of notes. Despite being in Estonia, it manages to capture the essence of many and this should easily do well. Whilst it might not be setting the tele-votes on fire, it should pick up a lot of votes this evening. I am predicting a mid-table result for this one. Well done to Birgit! Sometimes, I am left speechless and this is definitely one of those times!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS8vZL4tLUg

Belarus

Following Estonia, Belarus just sounds terrible to be honest. Alyona Lanskaya walks out of the disco ball wearing a sparkling silvery dress. She is joined on stage by two dancers and three backing vocalists and whilst this might not be the typical jury favourite, it will definitely pick up some votes to finish mid-table. The vocals this evening are quite disappointing though and it seems that she is very nervous. Nevertheless, due to the strategic positioning of Belarus, this could manage to get Paelinck best result. Alyona Lanskaya needed to nail it this evening and I do not think she did.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaolbQRw0Z0

Malta

Gianluca takes to the stage in his white shirt, bright orange trousers and black waistcoat. He is joined on stage by two female backing vocalists, a drummer, a ukelele player, and a guitarist. This came through the second semi-final last night after being announced ninth. The vocals this evening are easily resembling the ones of last night. The backdrop featuring the lyrics of the song is definitely not in the way and aids the performance getting the public to sing a long. The public are very much engaged in this performance and this is coming across really well. He was somewhat nervous at some points but nevertheless, worked through them brilliantly! Malta should at least get a mid-table result.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3rU5iRn8X0

Russia

Pink! but nevertheless, not anywhere close to the dress worn by the hostess because this is lighter and extremely salmon like. She is joined on stage by four backing vocalists and the staging has not changed a bit noting that there are balls on the stage and at the end of the performance is also seemingly throwing some balls into the audience. Dina Garipova is one of the most brilliant vocalists in the competition but I cannot believe I am saying this but she has just missed the high note and the juries will definitely penalise it for that. It might have just ruined her chances of victory.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktJ7PWwwM-E

Germany

Nathalie Horler feeds off the crowd and is definitely pleasing the public. Many people have stated that this track might be too similar to Euphoria but nevertheless, the group Cascada invented this type of music in recent years. She is definitely enjoying this performance and comes down the flight of stairs, takes to the catwalk in stunning fashion. I am definitely not ruling out a return to Germany for next years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Call me a fan, but wow, that was amazing!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA9Z3J4NYVM

Armenia

Eyebrows! That is definitely the focus of this performance. Armenia definitely qualified thanks to the power of the Rock voters or rather, the fans of Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath who co-wrote the song. The performance is nothing out of this world noting that it is just a typical band who are spreading out a message. Armenia did not take part in last years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest for political reasons but are definitely excited to return in the final. Vocals are on key and are sounding pretty well. Nevertheless, this will do better than expected but won't be in the top ten.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXJMoXENEmQ

BREAK

The Netherlands

Anouk, one of the most competent performers in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest takes to the stage for the final having managed to take The Netherlands through for the first time in eight years. She is wearing a dark outfit, the same within the semi-final. Initial reports were that she was supposed to start on the main stage but is giving the satellite stage another go. The lights are still in her eyes unfortunately but she is creating this mystical element by keeping them closed. The vocals are mesmerizing as expected from Anouk and I seriously believe that with a strong jury vote this evening along with a decent tele-vote that it could finish in the top ten.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlWZ4F1pSNE

Romania

Cezar had to be one of the most intriguing acts to compete in the semi-final stage last night and took Romania through to the final keeping their perfect record in tact despite maybe not settling in with the typical voter at home. The fact that the jury had to vote on vocal prowess, original and an overall performance might have helped him solidify that vote and indeed, this will most likely get a mid-table result due to the juries this evening. Vocally, Cezar is stunning and he is indeed one of the up and coming tenors in his country. The staging is beyond over the top but I will keep to the comments above.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQnULLf_rZc

United Kingdom

In the beginning, Bonnie Tyler had some vocal issues but nevertheless, she is a legend and does pick up after the first minute. This is a feel good country ballad and Bonnie does somewhat still have a vocal prowess that people might have to watch out for. There is a good round of applause in the press centre and the hall in the arena went relatively mad. Believe In Me will not be getting the top ten result that the United Kingdom would like to be honest but I am sure that her fanbase will enjoy this performance and vote for her tomorrow night to give her a mid-table result.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyHd1Ch6sXw

Sweden

The host country of this years' Eurovision Song Contest has selected a song by virtue of an international panel of judges noting that You was not the choice of the public. Robin Stjernberg is wearing a white outfit and he is joined by several dancers and this choreography is just out of this world and whilst it looks a little bit squashed in the opening rehearsals, it has definitely come across well. The vocals need to be perfect for this performance and wait for it, they definitely are. Sweden will most likely be heading for another top ten result, meaning it would be the third one in a row and a continuation of positive history.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCSxD78h-uk

Hungary

Alan Montonaro, who was guest blogging for the Times of Malta absolutely enjoyed this performance last night and Alex is actually enjoying his performance ever so slightly this evening despite not showing it too much. There is no emotion for the performer but nevertheless, the look is very much translating well on screens. I had this as a qualifier last night and it is definitely giving everyone in the hall and the press centre an extremely good feeling. The vocals are fine and the song is just beautiful. Well done Hungary, this could be the best result for quite some time. There is a lot of applause for this one and considering the commercial sales, I would say this is picking up a lot of tele-votes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V-3GwN2Q5o

Denmark

The pied piper has just started playing the flute and the audience has just gone mad. The crowd is definitely enjoying this performance. Emmelie de Forest is wearing the same white dress which she was wearing within the semi-final and is joined by drummers and backing vocalists. Many people have this down as their winner for this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest but I am not too sure it will manage to. The vocals are good this evening and will definitely get a potentially strong vote by the juries but should this win, it will do thanks to the backing of the public. The pyro curtain has just been used towards the end.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eml0Ei5Vn-E

Iceland

Eythor Ingi is one of the best male vocalists in this years' competition and has decided to stay with his black suit for the performance. The staging is kept really dark in order to accompany the mood of the song, which definitely reflects on personal experiences. Mid-way through the song, four male backing vocalists come onto the stage. Eythor Ingi has a stunning vocal range and he is definitely showing the jury this evening that he is more than competent to carry off practically the phone book. Stunning! Iceland deserve to finish in the top ten. This gets a huge reaction in both the press centre and the hall.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzJ9qgEhba4

Azerbaijan

Farid Mammadov is one of the worst performers when it comes to nerves but has the best ability in the competition to handle them because his vocals are stunning as always. This will definitely win a lot of points in the staging and originality sections which the juries have to assess this evening. The man in the glass box is managing to keep up this evening as was the case last night whilst the female dancer comes along and adds to the drama. Whilst this is coming in a difficult part of the draw following Denmark and Iceland, this is still going to competing for points and will be taking most of the typical points which Turkey normally gets considering their absence.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21SClr2lNTY

Greece

There is a lot of commotion in the press centre for this performance especially due to the fact that this is following two ballads and a mid-tempo song. Greece are bringing about the only ethnic song in the competition and this is musically stunning. I am not too sure about the choice of lyrics but as soon as you start bopping along, you would lose the lyrics and just love the music. The boys are definitely good looking as been said by many and therefore will be getting that type of vote as well during the final tomorrow night. This is an extremely polished performance. I have no clue how this one will do but it could finish in the top ten.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0WEQ12-36w

Ukraine

According to the Betting Odds, this is still the third favourite to win this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and I understand why because Zlata has one of the most powerful female voices in the competition. The initial walk with the giant is just silly though and might have come across as too much of a circus act during the semi-final. Zlata is wearing the cream/white outfit that she was wearing in the semi-final and seems that she will be sticking to this. Whoa! This part of the final is quite difficult and I am somewhat even more convinced that Denmark might not win.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEVP5sbwo2M

Italy

Marco Mengoni, the Italian hearthrob who stole the show at Sanremo earlier this year. He is wearing a teal suit as seen in this afternoons' rehearsal video and whilst this might not look great on the same video below, it comes across beautifully on the cameras. This is definitely going to pick up a lot of votes with the juries this evening considering that Sanremo is somewhat riddles with juries. He is definitely trying to play with his vocals and it seems that the performance is far too emotional. The vocals are just stunning and he manages to impress. I am sure that the juries will give this an extremely high position.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2kApUuLGLQ

Norway

The magnificient Italy is followed by Norway who is represented by Margaret Berger. This is the second favourite for victory and clad in a tight white dress, this performance is far more convincing that the one that she gave in the semi-final in terms of vocals. The camera shots are good but it would have been better if they managed to recreate the feel of the Melodi Grand Prix. Berger is trying to convince the public. She does receive a lot of applause in both the press centre and the audience. It sounded strong tonight and it could derail Denmark. Norway have definitely managed to win over ample support in a couple of days.

Georgia

Sophie and Nodi take to the stage in one of the final performances of the evening. This is track co-written by Thomas G:son who actually wrote the winning entry last year. They are both clad in formal attire this evening as has been the case throughout all of the rehearsals. The choreography is as cheesy as the song to be honest. The vocals are good or rather better than they were in the semi-finals but I believe that nerves have been getting the best of her mostly. Georgia will not be finishing in the top five though as previously expected. Massive applause in the arena for this one though.

Ireland

Fire! Stunning end to this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. I might not have been the biggest fan of Ireland when it was chosen to represent the nation. Ryan Dolan is still clad in casual clothing and the rest of his team is going about the shirtless look apart from the female backing vocalists. Ryan is a good vocalist but this is not the best rehearsal that he has had and will definitely suffer with the juries. Nevertheless, following the ballad that comes forward from Georgia, I would not expect this to do badly and whilst it would not be troubling the top ten, a mid-table position is very much possible. This is applauded well in the press centre.

The Show (Part 2)

Petra Mede, our funny hostess for this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is back on stage with the same dire outfit she started out with and says that the competition is actually over but time to turn to the public at home who will be decidnig half of the vote. A recap of the performances is currently being shown on screen and remember that Malta will be singing in position number #9. That's it from us this evening as we focus on the actual final tomorrow night. I have a sneaky feeling that the jury vote will be going towards Italy and The Netherlands. The interval act which will not be shown on Television Malta will include Carola and Sarah Dawn Finer.

The official website of the Eurovision Song Contest has just revealed the running order of the final of the prestigious event following an executive meeting between members of the Host Broadcaster and the European Broadcasting Union. Following a number of disappointing years in which the same genres were placed alongside each other, the organising body thought best to decide the running order. It wasn't a completely free reign though as each country had to draw their own half of the draw in an allocation ceremony which for the 'Big Five' was held during the first press conference following their technical rehearsal.

It is important to note that Sweden had drawn their position beforehand in order not to create any bias. This therefore gave the organisers some limitation over the second half of the draw especially after drawing number #16 in the final. Malta, who qualified from the second semi-final last night thanks to a marvelous performance by Gianluca and the rest of his team, including; Louise Ann, Samaria, Kenny D'Ugo, Christopher Tate and Gabriel Cassar, has been drawn in position number #9 following an allocation to the first half of the draw. The allocation took place during the press conference held after the semi-final stage of the competition which saw to the qualification of Iceland, Finland, Norway, Armenia, Hungary, Azerbaijan, Greece, Georgia and Romania.

  1. France
  2. Lithuania
  3. Moldova
  4. Finland
  5. Spain
  6. Belgium
  7. Estonia
  8. Belarus
  9. Malta
  10. Russia
  11. Germany
  12. Armenia
  13. The Netherlands
  14. Romania
  15. United Kingdom
  16. Sweden
  17. Hungary
  18. Denmark
  19. Iceland
  20. Azerbaijan
  21. Greece
  22. Ukraine
  23. Italy
  24. Norway
  25. Georgia
  26. Ireland

In the press conference following the semi-final, Gianluca who was accompanied by Anton Attard, Head of Delegation for Malta insisted that the position in the running order was secondary to him and the rest of the team noting that the performance is always more important. During the second semi-final, Malta had to perform in slot number #6 following an advert break and despite many saying that this could be detrimental, it did not prove to be the case. The editorial team of escflashmalta.com would like to extend congratulations to Gianluca and the rest of the delegation from Malta, a nation which has managed to qualify for two years in succession thanks to ample hard work and dedication from everyone involved.

Good Evening! Welcome to the live coverage of the first semi-final of this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest being held in Malmö, Sweden. Members of the European Broadcasting Union had to confirm their participation in the international showcase by December and as a matter of fact, during this period some nations had selected both their artist and entry for the event. Seventeen (17) countries will be performing this evening with seven (7) of them being eliminated at the first hurdle noting that the other ten (10) will be going through to the final stage on Saturday night where they will compete with another ten (10) qualifiers from the second semi-final and the countries which have already qualified due to their respective financial status.

In recent years, social media has become an important tool to get a message across and escflashmalta.com has been proud to keep you updated through both Facebook and Twitter whilst bringing you exclusive content through Flickr and YouTube respectively. This evening, the special coverage that is annually planned is set to be conducted by our Senior Editor, Antoine Farrugia as well as guests; Davinia Pace, second runner-up at the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Christabelle, awarded the Best Solo Artist at the Bay Music Awards for four years running. All of the three are extremely professional in their line of work and their interests in music have been duly recorded over time. Malta is competing in the semi-final this evening we would like to wish the very best of luck to the delegation on stage and also to the one behind the scenes. Follow the semi-final as of 21:00 CET on Television Malta.

The Show (Part 1)

And here it goes! The second semi-final commencing now! What a great introduction! We have the Urban Orchestra dancing to the the official song of Eurovision! It shows the past and what may come in the future. The song has now changed and another musical song is being played by this awesome orchestra. The dancing is magnificent being a bit lyrical and like a box! Also, we can notice the flexibility of the dancers. They went away from a slide and they are running up and down the slide once again leaving splashes of colours behind them on the same slide with every move.

This is totally a different opening and it is coming out as beautiful! The orchestra is still playing the same song just with a more up-tempo beat, now turning to  more hip-hop. They made up a laptop on the same slide and the music is being seen! That was a perfect opening in my honest opinion. Here is Petra Mede once again wearing a different dress. With a black dress with the underneath full gold, she added the gloves. She's being a bit more funny by just comparing herself to many female role models! Petra is talking about the voting system! She's translating into French also since it is another mondial language and a language that is mostly used in Eurovision after English!

Latvia

As Latvia take to the stage they look interesting and I love the costumes! but the song is very average a feel good song but nothing special about it. Not convinced about the rapping..although, must say that they do have charisma. (Davinia Pace)

PeR from Latvia is the first one up! Please explain the Rhythm is what it means! This is a nice 20 second clip. Here We Go! Shiny dressed guys are now on stage! They are surely enjoying it to the full! Vocals have obviously improved since the national final in Latvia. It seems to me that they're told to enjoy it now. Although, it is turning out better than I thought! Crowd is responding a lot as I can hear! At least they don't have a trampoline, they're jumping way too much for me. The slow-motion part is so so cool! Secondary stage is full with all the participants form Latvia. Stage dive is done today also! I think this may qualify by tele-voting. (Antoine Farrugia)

The beginning of the song sounds like a queen song. Not a big fan of the outfits and how they are moving like Jedward! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4lwr-zMSnM

San Marino

Loving the dramatic outfits but why sing in Italian? Very good vocals but there isnt a chill factor at all. Oh no this tune is just horrible, way too cheesy really. Started off great but the song just collapsed for me now(Davinia Pace)

Valentina Monetta is up next for San Marino! After last year, the facebook song, it is a different song, a superb ballad to come! A crowd's favourite from the first beat. Perfect vocals since from the begginning. A great improvement from San Marino since I can remember. She's improvising some things right now, is she crazy? She left the ball on stage now and went to perform. She's clad in a red dress with a black cape all over it which now she takes off as the song gets more up-tempoed! Perfect vocal from Valentina! Perfect look and staging! Last note was a bit off for me though! (Antoine Farrugia)

Her voice is gorgeous like a proper Italian! Not a bad song and love when it changes the beat(Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xi8mZ2ejLcE

FYR Macedonia

I'm liking his vocals and his outfit very classy. Oh my God she is hilarious but how can you take this seriously? (Davinia Pace)

with 'Pred Da Se Razdeni' from Lozano and Esma, the gypsy and the pop artist. Lozano's vocals are really good from every rehearsal and even today, they're really really good. He is not wearing his glasses which I find it awkward to look it since I always saw him with glasses. Here comes the ruiner of the song, sorry. She's clad in a really really really big shiny red dress while Lozano is wearing a black modern suit and a white shirt. He's improvising too although his always on key. The Esma part is so good musically, I personally don't like it at all. Too much things going on! Maybe, Macedonia nexy tear decides to send Lozano alone! Not a qualifier, for sure. (Antoine Farrugia)

He has an amazing voice but I wish I could undertand what they re saying! In my opinion she is horrendous though and I would have liked it more if he was the only one singing. (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LwGGo5ZfF8

Azerbaijan

Whoa! Farid has definitely been complimented by good looks. Im loving him and his song, the creativity of this performance is very clever, he really did think outside the box literally!  This guy has great stage presence ! and his definatley trying to send a message here. Very classy performance and this will do well! (Davinia Pace)

Farid Mammadov with 'Hold Me' is up next for Azerbaijan. It was a great introduction from the Land Of Fire.  Is it only me or the microphone is too loud? The man in the box is surely a perfect chereography. Vocals are spot on without missing any notes whatsoever. I would have liked to see the chereography a bit more since it is absolutely original. The girl is getting on stage with her usual red dress. The song now reaches a point near to perfection. Farid does not seem as scared as he was in the rehearsals at least, he's confident on stage! Noticing, it is Azerbaijan and a brilliant performance, I say it would fit perfect in the top 10! (Antoine Farrugia)

Wow what a beautiful performance! And I love the song!! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5egVzkZGTg

Finland

This is vey quirky! and she is a very pretty girl the song has a fun factor and a girly feel thats for sure and she is great on stage , loving the backing vocals outfits and gestures. She is great entertainment but as a song not my type and i reckon it wont get very far in the competition. Did she just kiss a girl!? Thats awesome big risk. (Davinia Pace)

Krista Siegfrids is next with her Ding Dong Team singing Marry Me. She's a beauty queen. Vocally, she's a bit off as from the begginning. She has a perfect camera work clad in her marriage dress! The staging is good but the screens are really too much for me. The chorus is so so catchy and I quite wanna get up and freak out with this song! This song sounds a lot like from a Barbie commercial or something like that but really enjoyable! The fire shots were perfect! I love how she performed it and took many risks on stage including the best one to come. Wearing that dress is already a risk but that kiss was more riskable! Hope the audience likes it! She may qualify I think! (Antoine Farrugia)

What was she thinking wearing that dress??? The song is very catchy but she s not an amazing singer and obviously she s trying her best to give her best performance! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdU02F9lT2g

Malta

MALTA!!! gianluca is looking great very smiley as always and such confidence you go Malta! Gianlucas vocals sound perfect and his performance is going great !! his really using the stage space and interacting with the audience and the camera ! best of luck gianluca. (Davinia Pace)

And after commercials, Malta is up next! Cross fingers for Gianluca and his band! Dr.Ginaluca has a pretty awesome 20 second pre show! He is clad in his usual dark orange chinos and a black waistcoat and white shirt. The audience is clapping a lot! He is really enjoying it with that big smile on his face! He is acting the song by just his facial expressions! He's so so relaxed! Vocally he's really good! the stage looks amazing and the backdrop screens are perfect too! When he sings the Oh Oh Oh part the audience joins in! The band is so so happy on the stage they're really enjoying it! gianluca is off on the catwalk where he is connecting with the audience more! He runs back to the stage to join the band on the bench Huge appaluse from the audience! He may bring us a really good result! He should qualify (Antoine Farrugia)

I cant stop smiling he s so cute!!!! Such a fantastic performace when I hear him and look at him he just makes you smile as his smile is contagious! !!! Super gianluca!!!! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WmJXIR9xtw

Bulgaria

He was amazing! I like a woman playing the drums but the minute she opened her mouth I cringed, this song is awful. (Davinia Pace)

Bulgaria is up next with the drums and nasty vocals form Elitsa. They're enjoying it a lot! Her vocals are already off from the beginning! She doesn't have any breath to sing this fast I think! I like the drums a lot from this one though I think that it is one of the few really bad songs this year. This folk music won't do it for Europeans. Maybe it's just me or her voice is really not nice and today she's worse than rehearsals without even having breath to sing. Glow sticks on drums! These three minutes are never ending! She's not singing? The mask is really ugly sorry Bulgaria! I don't think they'll qualify. (Antoine Farrugia)

Sometimes I wonder if im still watching the Eurovision... the song is not too bad but nothing compared to Malta (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bExp3aNOFsE

Iceland

ICELAND, great vocals a very emotional song but I wish he was singing it in English its a tad depressing I must say. (Davinia Pace)

Eythor Ingi is next for Iceland with Eg A Lif. Eythor starts giving his back to the audience. What a beautiful language I must say. His hair is still really long but his vocals are superb tonight as all the other nights but I think the musci is too low. This is a ballad to enjoy after many up tempo songs! This draw is helping Iceland I think! The stage is too blank until the backing vocals reach the stage! The song is getting stronger but it is still the same all throughout. I hink his vocals stands out in this performance alongside with his hair! From jury, he will pass but from televoting not so sure! (Antoine Farrugia)

Again I wish I could understand what he s saying but he has a good voice ... such a simple performance. (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtunhyMW1hM

Greece

Okay this is just weird I don't get the skirts the high socks , the old guy is kind of cool. As a song this is rubbish not even catchy theres no hope really. (Davinia Pace)

Alcohol Is Free and Koza Mostra and Agathon Iakovidis is up next for Greece. The audience is enjoying it from the beginning they're all clapping. I'm enjoying it here! I like this song awkwardly enough since almost nobody likes it! His voice is too good I think! They're wearing skirts too!! They take up to the catwalk except for Koza whose singing on a stand! This song is so so good but I think that the elderly on stage is a copy from Russia las year which I don't see it as a good take! The instruments glowing is surely amazing too! This is really good, like really really good! They will qualify, for sure! (Antoine Farrugia)

Lively song for sure! Very entertaining but not so sure about the outfits they re wearing! The song is called alcahol free its true they look rather drunk on having fun on stage. (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3k2MOJOkKg

Israel

Israel: I like the tune of the song but she is looking like the mother of fertility what is that dress? and those glasses? I am loving her voice she is giving a very convincing performance. She needs to move around abit even if its just a few steps! (Davinia Pace)

Rak Bishvilo and Moran Mazor for Israel. Ra Bishvilo translates to 'Only For Him' and she is one of the best singers in the competition. A great feedback from the audience since the piano started playing. Moran has a really nice voice and the dress, I don't bother much looking at as many are saying that she ain't dressed nice. This song is just perfect for Mazor, her voice stands out from the others. This is a really nice language to listen to and in songs, it's just really nice! The jewelery may be a bit too much I think. The perect note was spot on too! I think she is making a really good impression for Israel, they should be proud of Moran! Moran will qualify for sure! Best vocals in every competition! (Antoine Farrugia)

The dress does not flatter her figure at all!!!! Though I love her ring and her earrings and her voice is amazing but I again I wish I could understand the lyrics to this song! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYuSe5h-rrg

Armenia

He has a great voice, this song is nice the style is quite current , I am not sure about that scarf, the band are cool but I'm finding it rather boring. (Davinia Pace)

Armenia and Dorians are next with Lonely Planet written by Tony Iommi form Black Sabbath. I quite like this song but unfortunately, they're not getting any good comments. Gor has a really strong voice. This song is coming out not as I thought on stage which is making me feel a bit sad cause I really believed this will qualify. Too many jeans fabric on stage. He was off at points but his riffs are pretty amazing. Fire in the instrumental part, it's a no for me! He is screaming all the way thorugh today. I'm sad for him, he was so much better in the rehearsals. The song is really nice but they won't qualify in my opinion. (Antoine Farrugia)

Really good voice!!! Proper rock star and I love the song! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSs03Sp-4ME

Hungary

I am asleep already. This has nothing to it, it feels like a very lazy song. (Davinia Pace)

This is the worst song in the history of Euroivision with Kedvesem by ByeAlex and Hungary. His glasses are nice but the outfit it's like for going shopping around for me not a Eurovision-stage outfit for sure! I can't listen to this song in any way but it is getting positive feedback but I still believe they won't qualify. Is he copying Roban Lob from Germany with the hat? I hope this won't qualify, it is so so so boring. It just makes me want to run away and not listen at all. This is a big no for me. (Antoine Farrugia)

uch an ordinary guy ... I cant understand why prefer singing in their language and not in english ... though im not a big fan of the song!! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmjsIhihJMY

Norway

I love her dress and her hair great effort in appearance , Im loving this song so powerful. I am in love with her and this song , she is a natural, i like this style not cheesy at all and something different to what we have seen so far This will make it through for sure ! (Davinia Pace)

Margaret Berger is up next with I Feed You My Love for Norway. She is getting many many positive comments to winning and top 5. The beginning of this song is certainly amazing and which gets your attenion right away. She's excited, I can hear it in her voice! She's getting more into the performance now! hat dress makes her look like a mermaid for me and the fishtail doesn't help at all. No, not the dance please! It makes her look not an all-rounder for sure. The song is good but it is turning out boring and always the same. Oh it changes to the bridge at least! The last chorus is just great now and it gets back your attention. This will qualify, I believe! (Antoine Farrugia)

She s gorgeous!! And I love the song but I wish she wore a more playful dress! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjm-kCOMaPY

Albania

Awesome guitar move !! but this song is getting worse as it goes on! (Davinia Pace)

The rock duo is here! Many many smoke on stage, and stabbing on drums which is not pleasant to listen to. The first man's voice is like that all the time don't worry, he doesn't have a sore throat I believe but the second one is fighting to sing on the other hand. So so dull on stage with many many black and little splashes of gold. The guitar is having fire sparkles on his guitar solo which are the interesting part of this act, nothing more! Fireworks? Way too much Albania. Please, don't qualify! (Antoine Farrugia)

This has nothing to do with Lordi if they re comparing it to it !! Lets put it this way not my favourite!!! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Pf-ZCI-UuA

Georgia

I hate their outfits so dated.. the diction is terrible nice voices but its so so cheesy and I can't imagine this doing well in the competition! (Davinia Pace)

Nodi  Sopho and Waterfall next for Georgia! I like this act a lot, hope it turns out good! Smoke on stage already but now, it makes sense, you feel like you're in another world! The voices are so so strong and they blend together so much for me! Was she off pitch in the first Waterfall? It always sounds off to me. They finally got closer together and are showing a bit of chemistry while their vocals keeps on shining all through out. Smoke and now fire together, it's way too much. somebody is off, I believe it's the woman finding the song a bit too high! Still, I think they will qualify, not sure! (Antoine Farrugia)

I hate their outfits so dated.. the diction is terrible nice voices but its so so cheesy and I cant imagine this doing well in the competition! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvdcRmzuXKM

Switzerland

Very catchy tune , the bassist is so cute. This performance is very sweet not my type of song at all but it has something nice about it must be the smiley faces and the bassist  but again NOTHING SPECIAL! (Davinia Pace)

Switzerland of Takasa! The chocolate introduction before is a yum! You And Me, let's go! The intro of the song is superb, it gets your attention right away! The 95 year old man is cute on stage but you're copying Russia last year guys. the male vocals were low and the female's are high and she is squeking the notes. They're so stiff, just a simple line al next to each other. The musci video's song was different! It was full for sure, here it's the demo I think! The song is good but the performance, the look, the vocals and staging is awful. Switzerland, I think I will say bye for you this year, although you're not the worst tonight! (Antoine Farrugia)

I remember this song when they came to Malta ... wasn't a fan then am not a fan now!  (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBGpqq2LFSQ

Romania

What is this? oh dear dear vocals are so pitchy! This is confusing and just not right who let this man on stage? (Davinia Pace)

Cezar and his life for Romania. The pop-opera singer of tonight. Dracula on stage! What happened to his voice? Are the dancers wearing anything? Worst song from Romania in the history of Eurovision. No Cezar, if you wanted to do Eurovision, you didn't succeed sorry! Even the song is not nice at all, it's got something huge missing, I can hear it! Fire for reaching a high note is like 1990s now! Oh, so the neighbour countries all got higher Romania and Moldova. Romania, you won't qualify for the first time. (Antoine Farrugia)

Quite a eurovision song but not my favourite his damcers are amazing and his upper range too but it doesnt go with the song at all... and he looka like dracula with that collar! (Christabelle)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pNEEb6dzi8

The Show (Part 2)

We just saw Petra Mede explaining where the dressing room is located and now we're seeing a recap of all the songs competing. In the meantime, our reviewers this evening have also provided their own qualifiers and these could be seen just below.

Davinia Pace: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Finland, FYR Macedonia, Israel, Malta, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland

Antoine Farrugia: Azerbaijan, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Malta, Norway, San Marino

Christabelle: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Malta, Norway, San Marino.

Petra on the segway in the green room! She meets up with Cezar and she promotes the DVD and CD. Mede is sitting next to your Moran who are talking about when she saw the first Eurovision ever. And Moran says she's celebrating her birthday today! Another comeback from the past like last Tuesday! This is funny more than last semi-final! One of my favourite songs ever from Armenia 'Jan Jan' was played! And Petra just gave us the history of Eurovision in a few minutes! Another recap is now playing! 4 minutes left for voting! Make your desicion right voters, let's not be dissatisfied after a great show! Petra is back on stage encouraging us to vote for the final time! Lines closed now! Europe Stop Voting Now! Darin is now on stage giving an awesome performance as the interval act! Following his is none other than Agnes! And here is the recap of the pre-qualified countries! I strongly believe that the best songs this year come from Big 5 along with Sweden. The qualifiers are as follows;

Hungary

Azerbaijan

Georgia

Romania

Armenia

Iceland

Finland

Malta

Norway

Greece

Tonight! Malta will be taking part in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest following a series of technical and dress rehearsals, the last of which commencing later on this afternoon. The excitement for all of the seventeen participating countries is definitely high and considering the surprises that came about when announcing the qualifiers of the first semi-final, everyone is seemingly on edge to see which songs get through to the final stage. With the countries drawn from all across the continent, it will be hard to predict the full set of qualifiers because there might be someone who sneaks in unknowingly. A non-scientific analysis is seen below to hopefully predict the qualifers of the evening pertaining to two different factions. Remember that escflashmalta.com will be having a live report conducted by Antoine Farrugia and guest writers; Davinia and Christabelle

In recent weeks, escflashmalta.com has collaborated with a number of professional personnel from all across the world with vast knowledge about the music industry. The seventeen entries which will be competing in the second semi-final this evening were thoroughly analysed and graded both on an individual basis and also within the context of a competition. The latter scoring system was taken and added to the result of the public poll to create ten qualifers based on the system used at the Eurovision Song Contest which gives 50% weighing to the public and another 50% weighing to a professional jury. We are glad to reveal the results of the qualifiers according to this result in alphabetical order. The system was explained in order to answer any queries with regards to why countries may be missing from the poll on the right hand side of the screen which has now been closed.

There was a general consensus between the public and the professional panel of experts on eight tracks in total whilst noting that both factions predicted a song each which the other did not, leaving a song out in the process which had received the same type of result. In the meantime, out of the six (6) non-qualifiers predicted, both sides agreed on a total of four (4) entries and awarded them no points. escflashmalta.com would like to denote that this is not the opinion of the website with each of the professional panel as well as the public casting their personal votes. In the second semi-final the panel consisted of Stano Simor, Sharon Vaughn and Martin Isherwood. Stay tuned to our portal in the coming hours for more of the latest news. Remember that Malta will be competing in the second semi-final. All shows will be shown on TVM with commentary by Rodney Gauci and Gordon Bonello.

Good Evening! Sixteen (16) countries which competed in the first semi-final last night learned their fate last night and unfortunately, six (6) of them had to be eliminated. Italy, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom had their second technical rehearsals earlier this morning and all went to plan, followed by a series of press conferences where each act apart from Sweden drew their allocation slot in the running order. The host nation had drawn number #16 in the weeks leading up to the competition and the producers will be creating the draw around them in order not to have genres clashing. This is the second dress rehearsal which somewhat bears more significance that the one this morning for the simple reason that the Jury in all of the participating countries of the second semi-final will be casting their vote along with those in Spain, France and Germany. We would like to wish Malta the very best of luck!

escflashmalta.com thanks to Juergen Boernig, the Head of Press is currently also processing a couple of video interviews with artists who will be representing their country at the Eurovision Song Contest. As a matter of fact, stay tuned on our YouTube Page for all of the latest. In the meantime, you may also have a look at our photo gallery whilst staying up to date through both our pages on Facebook and Twitter. Coverage of the second semi-final tomorrow eveing will be led by Antoine Farrugia, Senior Editor for escflashmalta alongside special guests; Davinia Pace who was the second runner-up at this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Christabelle, a four time consecutive winner of the Best Solo Artist at the Bay Music Awards. We are committed to bringing you all of the latest news as the day unfolds so make sure to continue visiting escflashmalta.com as Gianluca takes to the stage with Tomorrow.

The Show (Part 1)

The mixture of past and present is well represented in the opening act of the second semi-final now that everything has been explained in greater detail. Another choreography which includes bicycles, it looks quite cool and weird at the very same time but indeed, this is the Eurovision Song Contest and everyone expects anything to happen. In the meantime, Petra Mede is now back on stage for this second show and indeed, she is introducing the competition for the evening. Seventeen performances from different countries across the whole of Europe including east, north, south and west!

Latvia

PeR from Latvia are currently on stage and this has to be one of the most intriguing acts to ever open a semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The two leading gentlemen are wearing silver jumpsuits and are joined on stage by an array of performers limited to the number set forth by the organisers. The vocals are straight forward this evening and this is mostly due to the fact that there are no high notes in the song. The middle part of the song is a slow motion dance across the catwalk which looks fabulous. At the end, there is a jump into the audience. This looks fab and I believe that this is now qualifying!

San Marino

Valentina Monetta is back on the stage of the international showcase for the second straight year and she kicks off holding an enlarged ball which glows in the dark. She is currently wearing a dark cape and the whole idea of an Italian ballad is transpiring well on stage. She is joined on stage by two female backing vocalists who carry out a simple choreography. The whole set up is very similar to the one from the preview video. Mid-way through the song, it turns into an uptempo number and this is all enough is enough at the moment. Valentina is enjoying her performance but I am still not sure about that getting through so I will say, NO!

FYR Macedonia

The first duet of the evening and Lozano is seemingly finding it quite difficult to hold onto the notes in the beginning of the song. Esma follows and this performance is easily ruined unfortunately despite the track in itself being well written. The backdrop for this one is relatively dark but then transforms into a colourful entry when Esma starts performing her parts. The whole stage act is coming across as a bit awkward and the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia is looking to go out in the semi-final stage and therefore completely a whitewash of the Balkan countries which is very unfortunate.

Azerbaijan

Nervous! This is somewhat the word that sums up this performance especially this evening but it does not seem to be affecting the vocals at this point in time. Farid is wearing an ill-fitting grey suit but nevertheless, the staging is perfect and will definitely elevate them not only into the final but most likely another top five result. As a matter of fact, there is a glass box with a man dancing within it and another dancer on the catwalk with a red dress and a long train. Vocally this is awesome and it definitely stands out as the first contender of the evening. This is my second pick of the night from my end. It might need some slight adjustments but nevertheless, it is an easy choice.

Finland

Team #dingdong has somewhat infiltrated the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest for this performance and Krista Siegfrids is as expected clad in a wedding gown complete with the tiara and the veil. On stage, there are bridesmaids who are also dancers and backing vocalists. This is all extremely Las Vegas Wedding to be honest. This is a tele-voting favourite although the shock ending might hurt slightly in more conservative countries. The jury voting this evening might be more cautious to vote for this one. Vocally this is sounding much better than in the afternoon but it does sound like Krista was sick earlier in the week. At the end, there is also confetti. Slick camerawork and this will get through by the skin of it's teeth.

Malta

Gianluca takes to the stage and he is definitely putting up a brave face for this performance as he looks rather relaxed, once more an extremely good sign. He is wearing a white shirt, black waistcoat and dark orange trousers and everyone on stage including the band and the backing vocalists are casually dressed as well. Vocally, this is the best performance that Gianluca has given throughout the week and it seems that the crowd is very much enjoying the performance. The camera work this evening is really good and he seems to be interacting extremely well with the audience. He walks onto the catwalk at the end of the performance where he meets up with the crowd and goes back to the main stage where he meets up with the rest of the band.

Bulgaria

Elitsa & Stoyan have taken to the stage and despite having previous experience at the Eurovision Song Contest where they had managed to finish in fifth place. Samo Championi is nothing but noise and the whole stage performance looks incredibly messy on screen. These have been described by many as an extremely long set of three minutes. It is rather unfortunate because they are quite talented. Bulgaria will not make it through to the final based on such a performance and the jury will not give it any points. The reason behind choosing this act was simple and that is qualification into the final but this isn't working at all!

Iceland

Eythor Ingi is on the main stage and is wearing a completely black outfit which is definitely more suited to this performance rather than the white jacket which was seen earlier. This is a typical scandinavian ballad which imposes a typical outcry for stunning vocals. This is definitely well performed and should stand outy this evening. It receives an extremely loud applause in the hall as expected from a neighbouring country. This will be getting through to the final most likely because it is a ballad which elevates rather than go down or stay in the same manner. One note, remember Kuula, and vote for this tomorrow night!

Greece

Koza Mostra, a relatively popular band in both Cyprus and Greece have a lot of charisma on stage and despite this track being in Greek, it is coming across extremely well on screen. The fact that the lads are good looking definitely helps in terms of tele-voting tomorrow night. Those who will be going for a more modern track will most likely cast this vote for this one in terms of jury this evening. SKA is still very popular and the addition of Agathonas for the extremely traditional element. Greece will also be getting through to the final and might surprise many by creeping into the top ten.

Israel

It seems that there are a large number of Israeli in the venue this evening considering the large applause that it received at the starts of the performance. Everyone is bringing their A-Game to the show this evening and it is quite important because the jury will definitely award that quality. Moran Mazor is still in the black dress which has been slightly altered and bedazzled. She is joined on stage by two backing vocalists. The vocals are just incredible and this is definitely going to be the moment where people get goosebumps. Whoa! Impressive stuff indeed from Israel. This will sail through to the final!

Armenia

The Dorians were selected to represent the Eastern country ahead of Sirusho and people were somewhat disappointed at this decision especially when the songs for the national final were unveiled. It has to be noted that his was indeed the best track from the show. The vocals are really good this evening as opposed to a mediocre performance this afternoon but nevertheless, that is not enough for this one to get through to the final of this years' Eurovision Song Contest. I believe that for the second time in a row, Armenia will be missing out!

Hungary

This has to be one of the simplest performances in this semi-final and following Armenia, one has to say that ByeAlex comes across as extremely talented. The song in itself has a lot of poise and the only issue that has been hindering it is surely the performer who has lacked the emotion or the personality but nevertheless, he might be seen as doing that on purpose. The team on stage enjoyed the performance. I can honestly see the juries going for this one but I am not too keen on the tele-voters although this was similar to the case last year. I am going to go on a limb and select Hungary as a qualifier.

Norway

Margaret Berger is one of the most popular acts in Norway and taking on the honour of representing the country is quite interesting especially because this is marking her return to the industry. The track, one of the most modern in the competition is very catchy and will surely garner the attention of both the publc and the jury voting this evening. Margaret is wearing a long white dress which is tight around the waist. This is looking extremely beautiful on screen and I cannot see Norway finishing lower than the top five at this stage. This is a definite qualifier by my standards.

Albania

It seems that the kitchen sink has also been thrown into the Albanian performance considering that at the beginning of the song there is dry ice, pyrotechnics and fire coming out of the guitar. As has been mentioned on numerous occasions, this is a rock song and will definitely be getting that vote at the end of the evening. I am not sure that they will be picking up a lot of votes from the juries this evening though and that will definitely be a positive. The lads are wearing what seem to be dark outfits which are very much assimilated to the genre in itself. This is just dire in my opinion, my apologies but not my cup of tea at all.

Georgia

Sophie & Nodi is very much looking like Ell & Nikki meets Chanee and N'Evergreen with a fusion between Running Scared and In a Moment Like This. They are clad in extremely formal outfits which is very much important for the general idea of this song. The vocals are perfect and the only really disappointing aspect is that they are trying to copy the performance of the aforementioned two songs to be honest. Having a pyrotechnic curtain is definitely copied. Nevertheless, Georgia made the right choice in going internal and this one is heading into the final with relative ease with a mid-table result.

Switzerland

I might not agree with the choice of this entry for Switzerland. The logo on their shirts has apparently been removed in this performance following instructions by the European Broadcasting Union. This is still pretty much static and therefore does not give the cameramen a lot of hassle whilst making the viewers at home think that they're somewhat incapable of not moving. I just cannot see Switzerland getting through with such a performance. This is beyond disappointing and Switzerland will miss out tomorrow night and most likely finish towards the bottom.

Romania

Crazy! Dracula is seemingly on stage and well representing the culture of Romania because Cezar is wearing a large black cape and seems to be giving the public the feeling of Olivia Lewis or Aliona Moon. He is also joined on stage by three dancers whose choreography is unnecessary. The vocals itself are really strong and Cezar is definitely trying to garner the attention of the juries considering that he is literally playing about with his vocal chords. He is a great artist but this song is just going nowhere unfortunately.

The Show (Part 2)

Petra Mede is back on stage following the seventeen performances and opens the tele-voting portion of the competition. A recap is currently being shown on screen for the people to make their selections. Malta has decided to select the last part of the song as the recap part in which all of the performers on the stage come together on the famous park bench. Am sure that tomorrow at this time, there will be many people on edge. Darin and Agnes are the interval acts for the second semi-final. A recap of the direct qualifiers is currently being shown on screen! Switzerland, Georgia, Greece, Malta, San Marino, Norway, Romania, Israel, Hungary, Finland are the 'FAKE' qualifiers.
