Malta: Remarkable Results in FYR Macedonia

Shauna Vassallo, Christina Magrin, Maxine Pace, Federica Falzon, and Gaia Cauchi are all success stories to emerge from La Voix Academy, a school for aspiring vocalists to hone their talent under the masterful gaze of singer/songwriter Gillian Attard. It seems that triumphant stories will continue to inspire for children to reach their dreams as a troupe of vocalists will be returning from the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia with their heads help up high, considering that they swooped the top places in every category.

Rachel Lowell & Jean Claude Azzopardi placed 2nd in their category, whilst Clarissa Cauchi placed 3rd in her category apart from being honoured with a diploma. All eyes were on Veronica Rotin, the artist who made it through to the finals of Io Canto during this past year, and has recently signed a management contract with Ironic PR & Artist Management, the same company which takes care of Malta Eurovision Song Contest participants; Danica Muscat and Davinia

Not only did she finish 1st in her category, but she was also crowned Grand Prix Winner hence giving Malta success all around with the four artists impressing the panel of professional judges. The “Lake Pearls” competition was brought to the attention of aspiring local vocalists thanks to Erseb Productions, who have organised several competitions in search of wonderful talent. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

On the 27th September, Rockestra in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund will be returning for a sixth consecutive year, this time under the patronage of Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, 9th President of Malta. What is different about 2014 is that there was a public call for artists who wanted to be a part of the spectacle, a call which in turn led to 118 submissions, all of which were heard by a professional panel of judges and shortlisted to represent the best possible talent that Malta is proud to offer.

Rockestra, a spectacular event which encourages the general public to donate money to a charitable cause whilst listening to live music played by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Sigmund Mifsud will offer a stunning line-up with artists such as; Franklin Calleja (MESC 13, 14), Raquela (MESC 09, 11, 13), Tiziana Calleja (MESC 10), Paul Borg Bonaci, Francesca Borg (MESC 12), Daniel Cauchi, Konrad Pule (MESC 00, 03, 07, 13), Gianluca (ESC 13), Matthew James Borg, Justin Galea, Ivan Filletti, Gianni (MESC 00, 12, 13), Simaria Galea, Lara Dimech, De Bee (MESC 14) and Brooke Borg.

Tickets for the Rockestra are available at €10 (standing) and €15 (seated) although the latter are almost completely sold out except a couple here and there. You may purchase yours through Ooii and thus ensure the experience of a lifetime, or rather a year. Rockestra is taking place at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre. Mark Tonna, a veteran singer/songwriter, most recently recognised for finishing in second place during the 2013 edition of the International Festival of Maltese Song with "Poeta Bla Kliem", composed by Mark Scicluna to the lyrics of Emil Calleja Bayliss, is jetting off to Ravello, a scenic town in south of Italy where he will be making a guest appearance during the Canzoni Dal Mondo competition.

The appearance is coming directly as a result of the success achieved by the veteran singer/songwriter in the local competition and keeping that in mind, lyricist Emil Calleja Bayliss has translated the first runner-up entry to English, "Lost Muse", in order for the public to enjoy the song and give it meaning. escflashmalta.com is proud to present this version at the bottom of the article. In the meantime, we urge you to stay tuned to this portal even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news.

Co-written by Maxine and Ramzi, the song speaks about the carefree months of summer, and how one should always be ready for the next challenge by virtue of being alive.

Emma Marrone, the female singer/songwriter who represented Italy in this year's edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "La Mia Città", receiving the maximum 12 points from Malta, has just teamed up with Spanish singer/songwriter and superstar David Bisbal on an original song, one entitled "Hombre Te Du Vida".

Despite the disappointing 21st position in Copenhagen, Emma aims to follow in the footsteps of Marco Mengoni, representative of Italy in the 2013 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with "L'Essenziale", a song which finished in 7th place, and got rave reviews from all over the continent, by launching a career in Spain. Corazon, a three-time Malta Eurovision Song Contest participant, was the star of a mini-concert in Valletta on Wednesday evening, performing a selection of well known songs, both from her repertoire and others which the audience present could easily identify with. Joined by Carlo Bugeja on the piano, the female singer/songwriter was at the top of her game, and ensured that she performed each song to perfection.

Clifford Jo Zahra, one of the editorial team members at escflashmalta.com had picked "Tema  ̓79" as his awe inspiring tune for July and to our surprise, mid-way through the performance, Corazon gave her own rendition of the track, one which bore emotion and identity. The audience applauded loudly, bringing life to the sleepy Valletta, and giving it renewed hope that such events could be held even more often. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

Philippa & Bettina Cassar, Kurt Vella, Sean Borg, Pete Farrugia and Ryan Paul Abela are collectively known as The New Victorians, a new age project managed by Howard Keith of Jagged House Studios, the same individual responsible for acts such as Airport Impressions, Tribali, The Rifffs and Ira Losco. In releasing their first original single, The New Victorians have gone for a quirky sound, an equally intriguing music video and lyrics which at first might not make sense, but the whole package is one which brings up a sense of professionalism, awaiting for comes next.

"Dustpile" was officially launched during the Farsons Great Beer Festival where The New Victorians were the supporting act of international singing sensation Lauren Aquilina, who has recently signed with a major record label in the United Kingdom, following the success of her three extended-plays. Howard Keith has gone on to state on several occassions that The New Victorians are a professional bunch to work with and people will enjoy listening to the sound they create once the debut album is released. In 2012, Kurt Calleja was the name on everyone's lips, having been chosen unanimously by both the public and the professional jury to represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest with "This Is The Night" which saw the Mediterranean Islands head into the final for the first time in two years. Since then, the male vocalist has been relatively busy working on his debut album "Love on Mars", which was unveiled during a concert in aid of Inspire Foundation.

The latest single off his album which bears the name "Vertigo", written by Tim Laws, Steve Lee and Chris Madin, is being support through a music video. Like Ira Losco, the premise is also seemingly dedicated to the seasonal outlook in Malta at the moment with Kurt being at the beach and on a boat, somewhat always surrounded by water. Since her return to the local music scene, Ira Losco has been nothing short of excellent, performing to sold out crowds and organising quite a handful or media related activities with meet and greets, interviews and also special appearances. As summer strikes midpoint, the female singer/songwriter, currently touted as a possible participant in the 2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has just released a music video, one in support of her latest single "Shouldn't Have to Bother".

Produced by The Bigger Picture and directed by David Serge, the music video is extremely seasonal with no real premise or story, except that one should enjoy life without a care or worry in the world. In less than 24 hours, it has already amassed more than 7,000 views on viral website, YouTube showing the level of support that the female singer/songwriter commands in Malta. escflashmalta.com in collaboration with Ironic PR & Artist Management is proud to present a monthly blog written by Davinia, a two-time Malta Eurovision Song Contest participant, and currently one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. Since emerging onto the local music scene back in 2011 with "Bottled My Teardrops", a number #1 hit on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay, she has been working in the studio night and day, doing what she enjoys doing the best. With her latest single "Ouch!" composed by Carlo Gerada with lyrics by Matthew Mercieca, Davinia has managed to peak at number #3 whilst maintaining a top ten position for more than a month, signalling that she is still well into form with a bright future ahead.

July!! What a busy month it has been, especially with the seasonal plans to move to the United States of America. It will definitely be a new challenge for me but knowing that I will be working even harder to succeed gives me the energy and drive to do it in the best possible manner. Without getting all emotional and teary eyed, something that will eventually happen, mark my words! I would like to thank you all for the massive support throughout these past couple of years, noting that taking part in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has given me the opportunity to get noticed by a larger segment of the audience, one who appreciates the music I put out there. Anyway, enough with the chit-chat, these are my TOP TWO songs for the month of June!

Chandelier - Sia (Aus)

Sia's vocals on this track are are just inhumane, they are so good !!! I havent hear sia ever sing like this in any of her songs shes always the type of artist to have a very chilled vibe to her work but what shes done here is pure genius so so powerful! definatley my ultimate summer track!

Summer - Calvin Harris (UK)

The title of the song speaks for itself ! such a summer tune everytime it comes on the crowd goes wild , great vibe well done calvin once again

As always stay tuned to my Facebook Fanpage & Twitter Account for status/picture/video/music updates and video updates. My special thanks go to Marc Calleja Bayliss and the whole editorial team at escflashmalta.com for making this possible, Gillian Attard at La Voix Academy for always supporting me every step of the way the whole team at Ironic PR & Artist Management who have been wonderful these past couple of weeks in setting up my image and last but not least, my family, who have always been there.
