Nadine Axisa; a veteran female vocalist in the local music scene, known to have accompanied Thea Garrett in the 2010 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest as a backing vocalist alongside Pamela and Jackie Pace Delicata, is just a month away from releasing her debut album Velvet, an album which comprises of jazz tracks, all of which are original and worked upon by local musicians, representative of the genre.

In support of the album, Nadine Axisa has decided to release a lead single, one entitled Għanja, composed by Walter Vella and Mark Attard to the lyrics of Joe Julian Farrugia. All the instruments in the record are played by different individuals with Walter Vella responsible for the soprano saxophone, Lawrie Simpson on the double bass, Joseph Camilleri on the drums and Mark Attard on the piano. Velvet, which will be released officially on the 27th February 2014 was recorded, mixed and mastered at Temple Studios. Ghanja's front cover has artistic direction by Matt Grima Connell, photography by Joe Smith and support from Label C, Natasha Polidano, Albert of Joes and of course, the Malta Arts Fund. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all the latest news.

On the 31st January, the organising committee of L-Għanja tal-Poplu will be receiving entries for the 38th edition of the illustrious competition, in hope of finding a track to succeed Hawn Siġġu Nieqes composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas to the lyrics of Paul Ellul, with vocals provided by Cherise Attard, as the winner. The organising committee of L-Għanja tal-Poplu has decided to introduce a number of brand new regulations including a financial reward for the winner of the singer/songwriter accolade as well as the top three (3) as chosen by a panel of judges.

The 38th edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu is being organised with the help of the Malta Arts Fund and in collaboration with Studio 7. Authors, composers, singers and musical groups wishing to participation can find all the required information through the Official Website, or the Official Facebook Page. The renowned local competition which has been given a true facelift in recent years is also being given a brand new visual identity in 2014 with emerging artist Darren Tanti responsible for a new logo, one which encompases the idea of live music and singing, elements of L-Għanja tal-Poplu. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for the latest news.

Nadine Axisa, one of the most verstaile vocalists in the local music industry will not be submitting any entries to the upcoming edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, deciding to focus on the release of her debut album, one which is jazz infused and supported by the Malta Arts Fund. The last time that she had been in the final as a lead vocalist was in 2010 when she joined Clifford Galea in a duet for the song Once in a Lifetime composed by Jason Paul Cassar to the lyrics of Mario Farrugia.

Since then, she has taken a step back and participated as a backing vocalist, most notably with first runner-up Kevin Borg and his entry Needing You. Her debut album which is set for release within the month of the upcoming year is set to include a series of original songs within the jazz genre. She has decided to include her fans in every step of the proceedings which will see her record, and producer the collection of songs. Nadine is working with some of the most hard working individuals in the industry and is putting in a lot of effort to make sure that the release will be received in a positive manner.
