L'Essenziale performed by Marco Mengoni, who also just happens to be the co-writer alongside Roberto Casalino and Francesco De Benedettis finished in seventh place at the Eurovision Song Contest with a total of one hundred and twenty six points. Ultimately, commercial success has been achieved in no less than eight countries including Austria, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland amongst others. This years' edition of the Pan-European event had the best following in the past three years in Italy noting that the broadcaster, RAI is showing an increased interest in presenting music to the rest of the continent with record labels using the platform to promote artists abroad.

Firenze was lit up during most of the evening as they hosted the MTV Italy Awards last night and one of the drawcards was undoubtely Marco Mengoni who performed his latest single Pronto a Correre taken off his sophomore album of the same name. The brand new track which is currently at number #9 on the FIMI Charts is quite different to his debut single off the album, L'Essenziale but captures the audience with a strong message. Marco was nominated for several awards, and did managed to triumph in a couple including the 'Air Action Vigorsol Superman' Award which was given to the artist who is most likely idolised. Marco Mengoni is one of the fastest rising stars in Italy and he will surely become one of the successful stories of Sanremo in the many years to follow. RAI, the broadcaster responsible for the participation of Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest has opted in favour of releasing the fifty percent split of the result in both the first semi-final and the final and there seem to be quite a couple of intriguing figures. During the semi-final stage of the competition, the Italian public clearly had one favourite and that was Zlata Ognevich with her song Gravity which received 42.3% ahead of Moldova's entry entitled O Mie performed by Aliona Moon which got just 15.5% in comparison. During the final, the tables turned and support shifted towards Romania and Moldova leaving Ukraine in the lurch and a third position.

Italy were represented by Marco Mengoni and his song L'Essenziale who managed to take the nation into the top ten for a third consecutive time, finishing in seventh place, just ahead of Malta whose entry Tomorrow sung by Gianluca was awarded the second biggest amount of points from the Italian nation. In the tele-voting portion alone, Malta would have been given four (4) points in total and that means that the ten (10) points given during the show were a mixture of both public and jury votes respectively. The editorial team of escflashmalta.com has somewhat been busy with bringing you the latest news from the world of the Eurovision Song Contest in recent days whilst also letting you select your favourite entries in both semi-finals as well as selecting the best song in the final. At the end of the voting for the final, the decision was unanimous and the favourite for victory was none other than Italy whose entry L'Essenziale performed by Marco Mengoni will definitely be scoring high with both the Maltese Jury and Tele-Vote if past voting patterns are anything to go by. More than 500 unique votes in just a couple of hours made such a selection although thousands had correctly predicted seven (7) and eight (8) out of ten (10) qualifiers during the semi-final stage.

L'Essenziale, co-written by Marco Mengoni, Roberto Caslino and Francesco de Benedettis is one of the most successful entries in this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest having peaked at number #1 in Italy for more than two months whilst also entering the charts in Belgium and Switzerland. Following his victory at the Sanremo competition, Mengoni saw the heights of his profile rise to the extent of a superstar by appearing on several A-List shows and private events apart from making the cover of every magazine possible.  The song, a typical Italian ballad will have surely scored a lot of points with the jury noting that back in 2011, it was Italy who had won the Jury Vote when represented by Raphael Gualazzi and his entry Madness of Love (Follia D'Amore).

  • 1st: Italy
  • 2nd: Romania
  • 3rd: Malta
  • 4th: Hungary
  • 5th: Denmark

Many will surely be surprised at the top five of the poll even though the numbers clearly deteriorate towards the end with the bulk picked up mostly by the top three as is to be expected when the poll is open for just a couple of hours. Romania who are being represented by Cezar and his entry It's My Life are somewhat a strange selection for the second place although it is rather well known that they will do much better than expected and most likely score mid-table this evening. In third place comes Gianluca whose smile has changed the perception of many. Tomorrow co-written by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek seems highly placed to get the nations' best result from comments by the foreign media and many do hope for the best. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

Earlier this year, Marco Mengoni swooped to Sanremo victory with his song L'Essenziale co-written alongside Francesco De Benedittis and Roberto Casalino. His profile in Italy is currently at it's peak and the release of his album #PRONTOACORRERE signifies this heading straight to number #1 in it's first week whilst L'Essenziale had been number #1 for more than eight consecutive weeks.

Sony Music Italy which represents Marco Mengoni is going ahead with the promotion of his sophomore studio album and thus releasing the second single entitled Pronto a Correre. The single co-written by Mark Owen from the globally renowned group, Take That is an uptempo song and clearly shows the vocals skills attributed to Mengoni. escflashmalta.com has engaged a panel of music industry professionals to assess the entries competing in all of the entries in this years' Eurovision Song Contest. The sixteen (16) competing in the first semi-final are ready but nevertheless, there are another three (3) countries voting during the evening, being the United Kingdom, Sweden and Italy. RAI, the broadcaster responsible for the participation of Italy have internally selected Marco Mengoni to do the honours with the song L'Essenziale which he co-wrote with Roberto Casalino and Francesco De Benedettis.

December 25th, 1988. Marco was born on Christmas Day in Ronciglione (Viterbo, Italy). He became interested in music from an early age: “As a little kid, I used to listen to a little bit of everything, from pop to r&b, from rock to soul music. I discovered karaoke and I would sing when nobody was looking, as I was pretty shy. One day my parents heard me singing and decided to send me to singing lessons. Soon I found out that music was not as easy as I thought, I had a lot to learn…breathing techniques, facial exercises, musical scales, vocalisations of every kind to improve my voice.”

After seven years of musical formation which includes not only singing but also working as a sound technician, Marco wins the third series of X Factor in 2009 and his first EP Dove Si Vola becomes his first success. Only months later he participates in the 60th edition of Sanremo with the song Credimi Ancora and finishes third. His “Re Matto” EP is released. After a successful tour launch Marco wins the TRL Award in the category “Man of the Year”, the Wind Music Awards and his debut releases are certified Platinum. He then releases the Re Matto live album hitting #1 in Italy. In November 2010 Marco Mengoni wins the “Best Italian Act” Award at the MTV European Music Awards and he also gets the “Best European Act”, as the first Italian in 17 editions to win the award.

In September 2011 he releases a new single Solo and the concept album Solo 2.0. The Solo Tour previews in Milan and Rome are both sold-out. In 2012 he embarks on a theatre tour created by Marco Mengoni, Elisa and Andrea Rigonat. Marco is also the special guest of the event “Premio Leggio d’Oro”, where he gets an award for his dubbing of Onceler, a cartoon character from the movie The Lorax. Earlier this year Marco wins the 63rd Sanremo Music Festival with his song L'Essenziale and a month later the new album #PRONTOACORRERE is out on Sony Music.

Now, besides his new tour, his next challenge is in Malmö: representing Italy at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest! Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 having been out since 1997 on the basis that the competition lost a lot of it's identity due to the tele-voting leading to the wrong songs being selected as winners with the issue of politics coming in. Upon their return, Italy was granted a direct qualification into the final with RAI, the broadcaster being one of the highest financial contributors. Their entries, Follia D'Amore and L'Amore e Femmina finished in second and ninth place respectively.

Professional Critics Voice their Opinion

Rating: 73%

Magnus Kaxe: Traditional but strong Italian Eurovision ballad. Marco has a great voice and the Italian language fits the track greatly. People love these kind of songs and I think it will finish in the Top 5.

Lina Eriksson: Actually almost anything sounds good when sang in italian. A beautiful ballad. Doesn't sweep me of my feet though. Overall an ok, nice song.

Matt Mercieca (Muxu): This is when I wish I knew how to speak italian because this is beautiful, and even though there is a language barrier i still feel somehow connected, this is how powerful music is  he has a brilliant voice, and tone! and the song is so nice, gives me a good feeling.

Keeping in line with the second semi-final, one of the vocal powerhouses seems to very much belong to Moran Mazor who will be flying the flag for Israel as she performs Rak Bishvilo in Sweden. There has been a lot of media coverage surrounding this artist as of late regarding her choice of attire at the international spectacle with the broadcaster refusing to let renowned designer Galliano work on her dress. Italy: New Single by Marco Mengoni

Italy has been extremely successful since returning to the Eurovision Song Contest and it seems that the trend will indeed continue as Marco Mengoni takes to the stage in Sweden with his entry L'Essenziale which he co-wrote with Francesco De Benedittis and Roberto Casalino. Sanremo, the annual festival of music in Italy is known to be a boost in the industry but Mengoni is exceeding all expectations. His winning entry has already been certified double platinium and is at the top of the singles chart for the sixth consecutive week.

L'Essenziale is part of the sophomore album #PRONTOACORRERE, released by Sony Music Italy and the management think that it is best to continue promoting Marco as a versatile artist and lead in with a brand new single, the title track of the studio album. In a video chat with TG1 on Rai Uno, it was said that the decision was unanimous because an uptempo track always follows a ballad. Nevertheless, this is not just any ordinary track having been penned by none other than Mark Owen of the popular group, Take That. As a matter of fact, an English demo of the track has also been released whilst a special version of the song has also been included on the album. This Saturday night, Marco Mengoni will be one of the guests of the Eurovision In Concert alongside Gianluca. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more news.
