MESC 2013: 'Never Walk Away' Most Viewed Thus Far

2012 is becoming another relic in just a couple of days time noting that Christmas has officially come to an end and people are paving the way for the new year which will surely be intriguing especially for those who might have thought that the world was really coming to an end. The Public Broadcasting Services wasn't an entity which had such a belief and thus started to organise the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest noting that the list of twenty-four semi-finalists was concluded just a couple of days back following the withdrawal of Dress Rehearsal by Saska Hunt which was eventually replaced by Marilena Gauci with the song Overrated. Whilst the official videos are being widely promoted on the engine used by the Public Broadcasting Services within their website, they have also been uploaded on viral website, YouTube and thus, one could take up the idea of views per track and it seems that the top five is quite intriguing with the leader of the pack running away with it at the present moment.

The track Never Walk Away co-written between Peter Borg, Matthew James Borg, David Cassar Torreggiani and Chris Grech has wracked up the most views at the moment noting that the band influenced entry performed by Chris Grech is being singled out for the very reason why the artist has become known, his raspy vocals which soar towards the end of the track making it sound like that typical song from the radio. It has not been a case of the locals falling in love with it wholeheartedly noting that there is a lot of foreign support for the track which sounds like a promising single from a budding new artist, stating what people have come to denote it. At this present moment, it has managed to garner around 10,000 views and has been shared many times of social media including Facebook and Twitter. Chris Grech himself is not a well known artist to be receiving multiple views based on his name so this is pretty much an intriguing start.

In second place comes none other than Kevin Borg with his entry Needing You a co-write between Thomas Thornholm, Simon Gribbe, Dan Attlerud and Michael Clauss. This has to be the most obvious option because despite the national interest at hand, the following that Kevin has in Sweden is relatively huge and therefore, the hits are picking up slowly and have at this point in time gone up to more than 6,000. This could be dubbed to be a mixture between the Maltese and Scandinavian ballad because it has a slow build up worked mainly around the vocals of the performer which also have a slight rasp to them in the vein of an Italian performer or even one of his good friends, Fabrizio Faniello. The fact that the Eurovision Song Contest is set to be held in Sweden seems to be the asset that many people are counting on and having a host country working in your favourite is definitely a positive idea.

A newcomer always somewhat finds it difficult to kick start their preparations for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in the best order but it seems that glitz and glamour are calling onto a new performer, one whose name is Melanie Zammit and who will be performing Loverdose composed by Niclas and Maria Lundin and penned by Gerard James Borg, whose international collaborations are becoming somewhat more common in recent years. Melanie Zammit is a relative unknown in the Maltese music scene having only released one single prior to this competition through 89.7 Bay Radio and also major television stations. She has charisma and fashion sense and that seems to have got the crowd going but nevertheless, it is important to say that her pop/dance number is putting people in third gear and dancing along even in places where they shouldn't. The live performance is going to be quite the showcase, or rather, that is my feeling.

Whenever a certain songwriters comes into the fray, it seems that it could be pure instant gold and as a matter of fact, Thomas G:Son who also co-wrote the winning entry of this years' Eurovision Song Contest has worked with the renowned local songwriting duo of Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg to create Ultraviolet performed by Jessika who is currently in a process of re-branding herself. The singer/songwriter who is also starring in a television series known as Il-Klikka on ONE Television has been receiving a lot of positive comments with regards to her track whose opening notes have been similarly linked to Emeli Sande's popular song Next to Me but nevertheless, the focus here is definitely on the catchy tune which one easily hums along and performed at the slightest listen. Jessika has become a true artist and with the right staging, this could very much be one of the favourites on the night. It has received almost 4,000 views at the moment making it the fourth most watched entry.

The final track that we are featuring due to being in the top five of the most viewed thus far is none other than Tomorrow performed by Gianluca Bezzina and co-written between Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat. The songwriters are not your typical festival duo and as a matter of fact, it shows that the competition is becoming more of a merge between the festival and the radio scene making it one of the most successful transitions in the industry. This Jason Mraz, Train inspired entry is hitting the right notes with many people due to the fact that it puts you in a cheery disposition and instantly get you hooked. Humming is one of the most important elements to get to know a particular track and this is one of those songs which you hum along daily without even realizing. It has received around 3,500 views at the moment and seems to be most vulnerable at the helm but nevertheless, a charming pop/acoustic number. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news about the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

MESC 2013: Annual ESCflashmalta Awards Return

The Malta Eurovision Song Contest has become a well respected event in the local music calender with several artists trying their luck to be amongst the elite showcase in which twenty-four acts compete against each other for the right to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest which in 2013 will be taking place in the city of Malmö within Sweden. The preparations by the Public Broadcasting Services are well underway and each respective participant is receiving ample promotion through all their representative media outlets including Television Malta, Radju Malta and Magic Malta amongst others with appearances on lifestyle programmes such as TVPM, current affairs programmes such as TV Hemm and TVAM and of course on radio breakfast shows. Nevertheless, whilst the result for the actual competition is decided, escflashmalta.com will engage a series of awards which for the second year running will then be handed out on television.

2013 will definitely prove to be an important year considering that many foreigners find our selection process quite positive. As a matter of fact, criticism has been very minimal and this will ultimately show the country moving forward musically. We have decided on three awards for yet another year starting with the Public Award which will be a public poll set to be engaged pretty soon where our system will record each IP Address so that one could only submit one vote, the Media Award which will be the choice of personnel from radio stations, television broadcasters and print media and last but not least, there is also the one which bears the most work, the Critics Award which will feature heavily in January due to the daily reviews we plan on publishing. Five members of the foreign music industry have been contacted and have gladly accepted to listen to the entries and judge them accordingly. Their criticism will appear in the reviews published daily but all the results will be revealed after the competition comes to an end. Therefore, no trouble there.

Our collaboration for 2013 will be taking place with NET Television noting that the editorial team of escflashmalta.com have been in contact with Spiteri Lucas Entertainment in the past couple of days securing the announcement of the three awards on the popular magazine programme which airs on Saturday afternoon and is hosted by Ray Attard and former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Debbie Scerri. The international critics which we have engaged barely need any introduction noting that we have managed to garner the likes of Sharon Vaughn, a songwriter who written songs for Delta Goodrem, Agnes, Emilia, September, Joe McElderry, Jedward and Charlotte Perelli as well as Roberto Meloni who has been to the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Latvia on two occasions, the first time on 2007 with Bonaparti.lv and their entry Questa Notte which reached the final and finished in fourteenth place and also the following year with Pirates of Sea performing the track Wolves of the Sea which also managed to reach the final and finished in twelfth place. Since then, he has been working on a number of solo tracks so this is definitely one of the many artists to look out for.

Another individual who has gladly accepted our invite is Stanor Simor from Slovakia who is a producer and has worked with a number of popular artists in Eastern Europe, amongst them Tereza Krendlova who represented the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2008. His work has been certified platinum on a number of occasions and considering the growing influence of the East, it is imperative to get an eat to analyse such music. The fourth and very respecting member of the critics is Lina Eriksson who has written for a notable amount of Swedish artists throughout the years including Jessica Andersson, Marie Picasso, Thomas Di Leva, and Nordman. She also co-write the 2010 Irish entry; It's For You performed by Niamh Kavanagh. She has made it to the Melodifestivalen selection for a number of years and is signed to EMI Music Publishing Scandinavia. The final member of this years' team is a welcome return of Martin Isherwood, a leading figure at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts who was also the songwriter of the British entry back in 2003.

Just in case, anything goes wrong including a possibility that one of the critics worked with local artists in the past, Knut Oyvind-Hagen who is a singer/songwriter, known for his hit track Rocket Ride which finished second in the 2007 Melodi Grand Prix is also on stand by. As one of the main figures at the Norwegian broadcaster; NRK, he surely knows a thing or two behind the selection of the right song. He is standing in for Sharon Vaughn on the track Needing You by Kevin Borg due to the fact that they know each other professionally. We would like you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com in the coming days, weeks and months because the coverage of the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest is surely going to be cracking and we would like you to support all of the artists as much as possible so keep sharing their videos. We would also like to thank Spiteri Lucas Entertainment for their kind support through the programme Sas-Sitta.

MESC 2013: Television Promotion Begins Today

The preview videos have become an annual tradition noting that their existence has become vital as a means of promotion and the Public Broadcasting Services should be commended for their effort in this regard. As a matter of fact, the clips are being shared even international and become even more popular as they are coming on related tags even on viral website, YouTube but nevertheless, the focus will now turn to local television as artists try to garner as much exposure as possible through a pre-planned schedule of appearances planned by the broadcaster through some of the major programmes. This is a means where the people will get to watch the video of the respective performer whilst also getting to know the artist a little bit better, something which is always quite appreciated.

It has to be noted that in the past two years, things have been rather intriguing with the interviews ranging from anything from the song to typical questions which relate to personal life. One of the shows which has been chosen to promote the entry is none other than TV HEMM produced by Where's Everybody, the popular company which makes several programmes for the national broadcaster, Television Malta. It is expected that daytime television will also be incorporating the elements that make the promotion viable due to the various demographics that each programme manages to reach. It is yet unknown what will happen but of course, from Monday to Friday, last year Television Malta proudly promoted the tracks through the programme Sellili hosted by 2000 Eurovision Song Contest representative, Claudette Pace but now another show known as TVPM has taken the time slot and it is hosted by Eurovision Artist Coordinator, Peter Carbonaro and Malta Eurovision Song Contest semi-finalist, Corazon. We will be keeping you posted with the schedule as much as possible so make sure to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

On Friday, the semi-finalists for the upcoming edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest were revealed during the popular programme Xarabank, produced by Where's Everybody and hosted by Peppi Azzopardi and now the preparations continue as the official recording of the videos will be taking place this coming weekend, most notably on a Saturday as expected due to the younger generation of artists which are competing in the competition. The announcement was made by none other than firm favourite; Kevin Borg who will be presenting the song Needing You in the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest semi-final stage on Friday, 1st February, hoping to be amongst those sixteen that will be in the final on Saturday, 2nd February 2013.

In recent days, Kevin Borg has been at the centre of media attention when it comes to entertainment due to the fact that his entry Needing You was not played like the others on the show Xarabank due to the fact that the show was over-running according to the production team. Nevertheless, the Public Broadcasting Services would like to release the preview clips for all of the entries as soon as possible and therefore, the recording will be taking place during the weekend. Through his Official Facebook Page, Kevin Borg stated 'I will be flying to Malta over the weekend', adding that it will be a 'very short trip' in which he will 'record the video for the song Needing You' with the public perception of the track still mysterious due to the fact that there are no clips with of it. It is quite unfortunately that his team 'cancelled three concerts' but this is a competition and he feels that he owes it to the Maltese to come down to record the clip. It is expected that the videos will be made public in just a matter of days following the actual recording. You could view this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest recap of the preview clips below. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.

The Public Broadcasting Services are gearing up to produce a noteworthy showcase featuring a total of twenty-four acts, known as the Malta Eurovision Song Contest from which, one entry will be selected to represent the country in the prestigious competition abroad which in 2013 will be taking place in Sweden or most notably, the city of Malmö. One of the key artists to have submitted his bid and will ultimately be competing for the elite ticket is none other than two time former participant; Kevin Borg who has become synonymous with the Maltese public after managing to find success in Sweden by virtue of winning the Idol competition which saw him sign to Sony Music and release; two successful singles entitled With Every Bit of Me and Streetlights as well as an album bearing the name The Beginning. The management behind Kevin Borg has been in touch with escflashmalta.com with some exclusive tidbits about the upcoming participation.

TV4 and Idol have become very popular in Sweden and as a matter of fact, Kevin has been riding on a wave of success since then noting several collaborations with renowned songwriters and performers. Nevertheless, his heart remains close to the Maltese public and in fact, despite receiving several offers from SVT to participate in the Melodifestivalen in the past, he has respectfully declined hoping that one day he would represent Malta at the prestigious event. That day has indeed come as he presents an entry bearing the title Needing You which features a collaboration of five songwriters; Kevin Borg, Simon Gribbe, Thomas Thornholm, Michael Clauss and Danne Attlerud. This is a team that between them have had at least twenty-five entries in Melodifestivalen, and three entries in the Melodi Grand Prix, also being represented in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2004 on behalf of Norway with the track High sung by Knut-Anders Sorum.

The songwriters spoke in unison to say 'creating the song really became a great period. Being five composers in the same studio co-writing  wasn't anything anyone had experienced before, but everything really became the very best of song writing sessions. The result is Needing You, a song exactly matched for Kevin's voice and performance and for the Eurovision format'. The artist has also just issued a statement with regards to the fact that people did not hear the track and that the management have swiftly sent an email to the personnel responsible at the Public Broadcasting Services in order to clarify the situation and possible post a minute and a half of the songs as is currently going around on several channels within the viral website, Youtube. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news about the Malta Eurovision Song Contest which is taking place on the 1st and 2nd February 2013.

MESC 2013: Shows Prevent Kevin Borg Trip

The Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2013 participants will be known in just a couple of days time noting that the announcement will be taking place this Friday night on Xarabank produced by Where's Everybody, hosted by Peppi Azzopardi and aired on Television Malta. One of the artists who will be missing from the possible twenty four semi-finalists is none other than Kevin Borg who is somewhat renowned for having won the Idol competition in Sweden a couple of years back and still enjoys a spectacular high level of fame in his adopted land where he currently resides with his partner in work and life, Sofia. People were somewhat surprised to see Kevin trying out for next years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest considering that his most recent outing in the national final was back in 2007 when he had finished fourth with the ballad Whenever composed by Jason Paul Cassar and penned by Sunny Aquilina who began his career in the festival circuit.

The track that Kevin Borg is presenting to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest entitled Needing You is rumoured to be a ballad and considering that amongst the writers there are Dan Attlerud and Thomas Thörnholm involved, this would definitely not be a surprise noting that the songwriting duo are known for writing the track High performed by Knut Anders Sørum in the 2004 edition of the continental competition. His low placing was due to some nasty choices of staging with a vocal presence which should have been much stronger. On his official page on Facebook, Kevin Borg went onto state 'I am terribly sorry that I cannot make it to Malta for Xarabank and the awards but hopefully i'll speak on the phone live before my concerts.' During the programme, it is expected that an excerpt of the song is played in some form and therefore, it is safe to say that a recording might have been done before hand in the event that he does indeed make it through with the final twenty-four. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news on the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest as soon as it becomes available.

Kevin Borg is one of the most notable names in the local music industry having achieved fame and success in Sweden following his victory in the Idol competition held on TV4 and then signing a record contract with Sony Music. In fact, he ended up releasing a debut album entitled The Beginning managing to reach number #3 in the Swedish charts before being given a cold certified disc due to achieving more than ten thousand units of sales. Since then though, he has always been busy in the industry working on new tracks for other artists as a songwriter and also appearing in a host of theatre productions such as High School Musical amongst others. Following the release of his last single Unstoppable which was a major digital hit, he returns with Christmas Time, a track written for the holidays.

Kevin Borg earned a lot of respect in the beginning of his career in his native land noting that he was increasing his popularity with every performance especially when remembering that he did make it through to the finals of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest back in 2006 with the track You're My Dream and also in 2007 with Whenever both composed by Jason Paul Cassar and penned by Sunny Aquilina. First time round, he finished in eighth place and second time, he also managed a fourth place. The brand new track is a heartfelt ballad with astonishing vocal range which will definitely be noted in this time of sentiments and emotions. The Maltese are embracing the track especially considering that it is currently topping the chart on iTunes. Make sure to purchase your copy if you haven't through the official store. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all the latest news.

It has really been a day to remember for the local media noting that there has been a lot of speculation over the acts who will be submitting into the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest following the announcements of Malta Music Awards and Bay Music Awards nominee Thomas Hedley and the duet featuring Don't Stop Me Now winner; Franklin Calleja and former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Ludwig Galea. The names keep on being revealed and we are now also in a position to reveal that former Malta Song for Europe contestant and 2008 Swedish Idol winner; Kevin Borg will ultimately submit a track in the competition and therefore trying to represent his home country in his adopted nation which has treated him extremely well in these past couple of years.

Kevin Borg first entered the Malta Song for Europe back in 2006 with the track You're My Dream finishing in eighth place before returning the following year with the song Wherever, this time finishing in fourth place. The songwriters behind the track were none other than Jason Paul Cassar and penned by Sunny Aquilina respectively. In 2008, Kevin left the Maltese Islands for the Scandinavian country of Sweden,  entering the Idol competition which has grown fond of supporting acts from outside the country. He managed to overcome all of the obstacles and finished as the winner thus earning himself a record deal with Sony Music. His debut album entitled The Beginning peaked at number #3 in the charts and certified Gold whilst his first two singles bearing the name With Every Bit of Me and Streetlights both managed top ten positions at number #1 and #10 respectively. His most recent single was the track Unstoppable with all proceeds supporting the Breast Cancer Foundation and released through EMI Music.

In an exclusive phone call with escflashmalta.com earlier this evening, Kevin Borg officially confirmed the news of his submission saying that this is the right time to try and return to honour his home country in the esteemed music event which is known to unite the country. He did not wish to reveal anything about the track in itself but I am sure that many people have already put Kevin Borg as the front runner to represent the country at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest which will be taking place in Malmo, Sweden. Surely, the fact that the Scandinavian nation is hosting the event is quite a plus because Kevin would definitely get a lot of exposure. The editorial board at this portal would like to wish Kevin Borg and his team the very best of luck as they submit into the competition. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news about the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest as soon as it takes place.

Sweden: Kevin Borg Busy Co-Writing Tracks

Kevin Borg was a resident singer on a local television programme and had even tried to represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions, the first time with the track You're My Dream in 2006 and the second time with the song Whenever in 2007, both composed by Jason Paul Cassar and penned by Sunny Aquilina but tele-voting put him in eight and fourth place respectively. Following his final participation in the local competition, he traveled with his girlfriend to Sweden where she convinced him to audition for Idol, the Swedish version of the notable reality television series in which a number of performers would ultimately compete to win a contract with Sony Music whilst getting weekly exposure on national television, in this case being TV4. Ultimately, Kevin ended up being the winner of the edition and went onto release his debut single With Every Bit Of Me and album The Beginning, both of which charted in the top three. A couple of years onwards and Kevin is working with a host of songwriters and producers on his sophomore release.

There has been a lot of talk in Malta in recent months that due to the fact that the competition is being staged in Sweden, it might be best to have someone who knows the country well and would be willing to represent Malta having already given it a shot in the past. Nevertheless, it might not be the right position to put him in a national selection with the possibility of an internal selection being looked at not by the broadcaster but by the people who have been against that type of decision in the past. It is quite interesting to note though that Kevin Borg is currently working with a large number of people in terms of music including none other than Sharon Vaughn who was the co-writer of Waterline for Jedward, the song which represented Ireland in this years' Eurovision Song Contest and also Dimitri Stassos who co-wrote this years' entry for Greece entitled Aphrodisiac as well as the Spanish entry in 2009 entitled La Noche Es Para Mi. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.
