Malta: Audience in Awe of Majestic Male Duet

Rockestra, an event in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund, has always been billed as 'not to be missed' and with that slogan managed to attract it's largest crowd yet. Around twelve thousand (12,000) people flocked to the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta' Qali in order to witness some of the best talent that the local music scene has to offer along with the musical accompaniment of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra led by Maestro Sigmund Mifsud as well as four female backing vocalists; Angela Spiteri, Jackie Pace Delicata, Anna Azzopardi and Louisa Frendo Wirth. With several eurostars in attendance, it was quite difficult to select the strongest performance of the evening but we did manage to come to a conclusion that the evening belonged to male vocalists; Ludwig Galea and Chris Grech.

Ludwig Galea, a former representative for Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2004 was joined by Chris Grech, a finalist in this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in an astonishing version of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. The audience was in awe of their vocal capabilities, and showed their appreciation by clapping, and singing throughout the whole performance. The event was star studded and two of the closing acts who drew the most attention and came possibly a joint second in terms of performance were none other than Ira Losco and Kevin Borg. The pop/rock princess took to the stage in a regal robe and a crown in order to perform another hit song by the group Queen, that being Radio Gaga. The first runner-up at this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest, Kevin performed Livin' on a Prayer which many remembered him performing during Idol in Sweden. The public were so enthralled by the performances that they ended up clapping in sync, something that rarely happens in public events.

Whilst those three artists managed to bring the house down, it is unfair not to mention artists such as Lawrence Gray, Claudia Faniello and Raquela whose vocal capabilities were stretched to the maximum especially with regards to the latter. Raquela, a participant within the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, 2011 and 2013 showed the public that she has a range beyond compare in a lyric-less song where harmonisation was key before returning for a duet version of the song Hallelujah alongside Sandrina. The concert was held under the distinguished patronage of The President of Malta and Mrs Abela and is supported by Parliamentary Secretariat for Culture and Local Government, Good Causes Fund, Malta Tourism Authority, Malta Fairs and Convention Centre, HSBC Bank, Banif Bank, Bank of Valletta, Vodafone, Tumas Group and Hard Rock Café. Malta: Eurostars Appointed Reading Ambassadors

In recent days, the town of Sliema was marking International Literacy Day as part of a brand new project kick started by the government in order to encourage reading especially to the younger generations whose life has somewhat been gobbled up by technology. Aiding proceedings and appointed as Reading Ambassadors were none other than former Eurovision Song Contest representatives; Kurt Calleja, Gianluca and Ira Losco. Their support to the initiative is vital because they are individuals in the public eye and thus have a certain following.

Kurt Calleja, who represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 with the track This Is The Night which he co-wrote with Johan Jämtberg and Mikael Gunnerås has just unveiled his debut album, Love on Mars, Gianluca just released his debut album Waiting for Tomorrow following his eighth place finish at the prestigious international competition with the track Tomorrow co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat whilst Ira Losco who honoured her nation at the 2002 international spectacle with 7th Wonder composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Gerard James Borg is currently promoting the track Me Luv u Long Time, the third single off her sixth studio album, The Fire.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQw_OXSwPvU

Both the male and the female vocalist took to the stage to share their love of reading, conveying a message of how one could enter a different world whilst educating oneself with what is being published. It is also important to denote that whilst Ira Losco suggested the book 'Goggle Eyes' written by Anne Fine, Kurt Calleja suggest the series 'Harry Potter' written by celebrated author JK Rowling. It has also been acknowledged that more reading ambassadors will be revealed in due course, including ones from the entertainment industry. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

Malta: Video for 'Me Luv u Long Time' Released

Ira Losco, considered by many as the leading lady within the local music scene has just released the music video, accompanying the third single Me Luv u Long Time from the album The Fire. A favourite amongst her fans, the song has already managed to peak at the top position on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay and the PRS Chart which ranks the most airplay on all music stations.

The music video, directed by Francis Ghersci with production by The Bigger Picture is yet another impressive visual for Losco. All in all, there were around twenty-five people who were involved in the shoot, which took place at ONE Studios in Marsa. The Bigger Picture, Nexos Lighting, The Atrium, Portomaso Casino, GUESS and FCM Bank were vital in the realization of this video. Make up and hair was left in the expert hands of award-winning Justin Brincat and Clinton Attard. Drew Warhurst, Matthew Pace and Andrea Gauci provided wardrobe and props.

This is the third music video for Ira Losco from her latest album and with such a background, it comes to show that she has become one of the most active local artists. With two previous hits; What I'd Give and The Person I Am which also successfully topped the charts and a studio album which managed to stay at the number #1 for eleven (11) consecutive weeks, it seems that Ira is truly reaching her peak as an artist, combining her songwriting and performing skills together.

Fans are asked to visit the page to be informed about a competition regarding this video release with many prizes to be won. Besides the funny bloopers during the end credits there is also a link to be found for the making of video teaser. 2 making of videos will be released shortly. "I find it is of utmost importance to add a strong visual to music especially in today’s age. Releasing a music video with every single is a challenging task for obvious reasons but, I’m a firm believer that the audio and visual creative sectors compliment each other perfectly” concluded Ira Losco. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for another guest editorial by Ira Losco in the coming weeks along with more of the latest news.

escflashmalta.com in collaboration with Jagged House has been presenting a montly blog written by Ira Losco, a former representative of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest and one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. Around a year ago, following an extended period of time off, Ira Losco returned to the local music scene with the track What I'd Give which won her several accolades. Soon after, the launch of both the album entitled The Fire and the second single, bearing the name The Person I Am featuring guest vocals by David Leguesse. The third single off the album entitled Me Luv You Long Time is set to get an official video release in the next couple of weeks.

I can’t wait for you all to watch the Me Luv u Long Time video!!! The Bigger Picture have done an unbelievable job and the song is doing extremely well! It’s peaked at number 1 on the 89.7 Bay Radio Top 10 and is already at number 7 in the Top 30. Everyone I meet tells me how much they really like the track, that obviously makes me so happy. It’s such a satisfaction to write an album, which is really touching people in every way possible. Ira Losco listens to music from all over the world in whatever genre they might be, adding to the whole intrigue of her selection and as a matter of fact, let's see what her Top 5 Tracks for the month are!

Capital Cities - Safe and Sound (USA)

This track by American indie rock duo has already sold over a million copies in the US.  It’s got a fresh summer sound and I’m dead curious to listen to their album. I can’t find any reference to its date of release, but I’m sure if there’s more where this came from, it’ll be good.

True Love - P!nk ft. Lily Allen (USA)

No one sings about Love like P!nk does. She really tells it as it is. The nitty gritty parts of the relationship, us women moan to our best friends about. And she does it so well. I love her tongue n cheek lyrics and her cheeky videos, which now features  her daughter alongside her husband Carey Hart, who was in another two videos prior to this one. It seems she hasn’t saved her acting talents for videos alone, P!nk is going to star alongside fellow actress Gwyneth Paltrow in the upcoming movie “Thanks for Sharing.”

Lose yourself To Dance - Daft Punk (France/USA)

Again Pharrell William’s sexy vocals and Nile Rodgers invaluable touch to the track Lose Yourself To Dance make it one of my favourites off Daft Punk’s album “Random Access Memories.”  I don’t believe it is one of the strongest singles so far, but it grooves and makes you want to hit the dance floor……an LED Dance floor that is! heheh

Alive - Empire of The Sun (Australia)

I have a soft spot for Oz musicians, to me they see the world from a different perspective. They have a style of their own. I can’t put my finger on it, but they sound more organic than most other European/UK bands do. That’s just my thought, but that’s what I feel when I listen to their music. Alive is the first single from their album Ice on Dune which Luke Steele (Empire of the Sun are a duo, the other being Nick Littlemore) compared to Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, but said they have better songs. Strong statement…haven’t heard their full album yet, but will do, just to see if he’s right or not ;-)

Ellie Goulding - Burn (UK)

Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ellie Goulding is one of my favourite Brit artists this year. Her timbre is  gorgeous, airy, yet strong, it’s a voice which soothes. This single really knocked everyone’s socks off. ‘Burn’ is the fourth single released off her album Halycon. And just to set the record straight, cause a few people are convinced she is… she’s not dating Calvin Harris…the kissing, caressing and fondling was just for the video to I Need Your Love released by Harris last April. Harris is actually dating Rita Ora. :-p

As always stay tuned to my Facebook Fanpage for status/picture/video/music updates and BRAND NEW VIDEO updates THIS weekend!!! For those of you who STILL haven’t purchased The Fire …you can do so by clicking here!! The band and I are getting geared up for our performance in Zabbar alongside Trbali. We will be hitting the stage first at around 9pm and Tribali will end the show. Entrance is FREE and I will be holding Meet & Greet sessions after the performance. Looking forward to meeting all of you!!!

OGAE Malta, the local representative committee within the international fan club of the Eurovision Song Contest has decided to open the selection for the annual OGAE Video Contest to the general public in a bid to make sure that the chosen entry is one which receives the full backing from everyone, something that has not always been the case. Last year, it was Italy who were winners of the competition with the track E' L'Amore Che Conta performed by Giorgia. Malta has never triumphed within the competition but has managed a sixth place finish on two occasions, first time round in 2005 with video for the song I'm In Love Again by Ira Losco and second time round in 2006 with the video for the track Love On The Radio sung by Fabrizio Faniello.

On the 15th August 2014, the voting officially commences with the public having the opportunity to select their favourite music video from a selection of ten (10) songs which OGAE Malta have internally selected amongst their members. As has already been noted in a previous article, it was impossible to shortlist the music video for the track Tomorrow co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat with vocals provided by Gianluca because entries from the Eurovision Song Contest are prohibited for taking part. Despite this particular inconvience, the list of music videos shortlisted feature artists from the whole spectrum of the local music scene including former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Ira Losco as well as national final participants; Kelly Schembri and Davinia Pace.

The Person I Am - Ira Losco

Sinners - Lauren Aquilina

I'd Rather Die - Carrie Haber

Sweet Sister - Chris & Cheryl

You are My Home - Davinia

In Time - Yews

What I'd Give - Ira Losco

Strip Search - Honorebel ft Kelly Schembri & Stephen Davids

Just above, you could watch the videos of the competing entries in an individual manner yet the organisers have also prepared a playlist for those who wish to view them all at one go. When a decision has been made, you should send your votes in 'Eurovision Format' to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. till the 15th September 2013. It is important to denote that each person has one vote and cannot make alterations to the vote after it has been sent. Make sure to include your name, surname and country of origin within the email. The editorial board gladly support this brand new venture organised by OGAE Malta because it increases transparency and also gives the public the right to decide on something which will still represent the nation. Me Luv You Long Time, the third single off Ira Losco's sixth studio album entitled The Fire is clearly causing a storm considering that it is scaling up the charts at a relatively fast pace. As a matter of fact, this week, on Malta's Top Ten With Nathan D, the track has managed to peak at number #2, with the only song to achieve more airplay during the past week being Endless Flame by Joseph Armani and featuring Cazi Opea. Last night, Ira Losco was headlining at the Għaxaq Music Festival and performed a string of hits including Waking Up to the LightDriving One of Your Cars and L-Aħħar Bidwi F'Wied il-Għasel which has also been covered by Italian sensation, Claudio Baglioni.

Ira Losco, a regular contributor at escflashmalta.com has managed to rekindle the support that spurred her onto becoming the leading female vocalist in the country with The Fire achieving several statistical successes. The first two singles; What I'd Give and The Person I Am, the latter of which featured guest vocals of David Leguesse did well both on the radio and on iTunes. A music video to support her latest single has also been recorded and in her own words, is said to be released within the next couple of weeks. Following an astonishing performance with her band, Ira Losco was joined on stage by Errol Sammut and the rest of Airport Impressions for two cover versions which sent the crowd into a complete frenzy as they witnessed great chemistry between the two leading vocalists. The Fire, Ira Losco's sixth album is the most successful to date notching up a total of ten weeks at number #1 on the local music charts. Preceding the release of the collection, there were two singles, one entitled What I'd Give and the other being The Person I Am featuring the vocals of David Leguess. Between Ira's fifth and sixth studio albums, there was a three year gap, something which she described as a period where she rediscovered her love towards music. All releases by the singer/songwriter are under the Jagged House imprint and therefore, it comes as no surprise that joining her in Għaxaq on Tuesday, 6th August 2013 will be none other than Airport Impressions, also on the labels' roster.

At the Farsons Beer Festival, Ira Losco performed a string of her own personal hits including a number of well known songs in Maltese such as L-Aħħar Bidwi F'Wied il-Għasel. In the meantime, Airport Impressions will be taking to the stage tomorrow evening with Lauren Aquilina also in tow for a series of performances. Both Ira and Airport Impressions will be singing songs from their personal discography but organisers of the Għaxaq Music Festival have also confirmed that the two will be coming together for a couple of tracks as well. This is something that is happening for the very first time and the public will surely enjoy the outcome considering the strong vocals on both sides. Errol, lead singer of Airport Impressions was also the composer of When It's Time, Claudia Faniello's entry within the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2013 at number #2 on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news!
