The Public Broadcasting Services and the European Broadcasting Union might have just come to an understanding with regards to the hosting of next years’ edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, yet it is pivotal to denote that certain details are also being decided by both parties over the next couple of weeks, including the venue, the dates, and of course, the hosts. It comes as no surprise that most of the current roster at Television Malta are seemingly interested in this gigantic opportunity and the general public are putting forward their favourites, according to a doodle poll in which anyone could select anyone of three (3) sets of presenters, a male and a female.

At this current moment, the winning team is quite simple, the female host being none other than former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Ira Losco who is yet to ever be appointed host and, the male host being the experienced, Keith Demicoli who has already hosted the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions; in 2010 and 2011, with Pauline Agius and Valerie Vella respectively. The renowned newscaster, Keith is running away with the others on the list, including Pablo Micallef and Janvil, both of which were also hosts of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in the past, and both currently hosts on Television Malta. Who would you like to host the upcoming edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest? Let us know and stay tuned to for all of the latest news.

In the local music industry, Gerard James Borg does not require any introduction, having been responsible to penning the lyrics for no less than five entries, the last of which was back in 2008, entitled Vodka performed by Morena to the composition of Philip Vella. He was also partly responsible for almost bringing the Eurovision Song Contest to Malta, noting that he wrote the lyrics of 7th Wonder, runner-up at the international event back in 2002 with vocals by Ira Losco and music by Philip Vella once more. Despite his focus still on songwriting, he has a brand new project, one in the form of a book, entitled Sliema Wives.

The novel is a fast paced work of fiction set in the beautiful town of Sliema and promises to be exciting and intriguing.  Five local women have been nominated for The Woman of The Year Award by an elite fashion publication, LUSHLIFE. One wins; four lose. But in the run to the award there are many things going on in this thrilling and entertaining mix which is also flavoured with passing mentions of local personalities. And since the author is a known name in the Eurovision circle we also find some Eurovision related gossip in one of the chapters. The book, published by Midsea Books is available from all leading bookstores in Malta and Gozo and €2 from each sale will go towards Puttinu Cares.

At the moment, Gerard James Borg is preparing for another edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, as four (4) of his entries got through to the semi-final stage of the competition. This is extraordinary and continues to show the prowess of the individual on the local arts stage. He has garnered traction all over the continent having also competed in several other national selections including in Norway, The Netherlands and Belgium. We urge you to stay tuned to for all of the latest news about the local music scene and the esteemed individuals who represent the nations’ past, present and future.

In collaboration with Jagged House, Ira Losco has recently joined the family as part of the editorial board albeit in a guest position, one which she has engaged on a monthly basis. Hot on heels following the release of her seventh studio album, The Fire, which has been hailed as a model for the music which should follow by other local musicians, Ira Losco is currently engaging her fans through a promotional campaign supported by, Coca Cola and 89.7 Bay in order to select her fourth single release, but more about that here.

Christmas is a time for giving, and indeed, Ira Losco who once represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest to massive success, finishing in second place with 7th Wonder composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Gerard James Borg, is giving away a digital copy of her latest studio album, for FREE. Due to the fact that Ira had not released any original music in years, many had been expecting her to be mellow, a tad safe but she came out firing in a positive manner and released what has been coined to be an edgy and risky album, one which managed to top the iTunes Charts for more than two months at one point. Ira Losco will return with a brand new blog for the month of December in a couple of days, so we urge you to stay tuned to, listen to The Fire and await more interesting news.

Malta: November's Favourite Tunes by Ira Losco in collaboration with Jagged House has been presenting a montly blog written by Ira Losco, a former representative of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest and one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. Around a year ago, following an extended period of time off, Ira Losco returned to the local music scene with the track What I'd Give which won her several accolades. Soon after, the launch of both the album entitled The Fire and the second single, bearing the name The Person I Am featuring guest vocals by David Leguesse. On the other hand, nothing beats the response towards the third single; Me Luv You Long Time, so much so that Ira is calling on her fans for the selection of her fourth single as stated below.

The BMAs are just around the corner. THE PERSON I AM has been nominated in the BEST SONG category  and with it having held the number 1 spot for 6 consecutive weeks it stands a pretty good chance. You can contribute to its success at this year’s BMAs by sending IRA LOSCO to 50615300. You may cast your vote 3 times. I’ve also just launched a BRAND NEW competition in collaboration with Coca Cola on Bay Radio. YOU are going to get to choose my FOURTH single from my latest album THE FIRE. Vote for YOUR favourite song from the 3 choices on my FANPAGE. Click on the Coca Cola Application and be in the chance to win some great prizes as well as choose my Next single!! ... and of course, here are my TOP FIVE (5) for November!

Robbie Williams - Go Gentle (UK)

It’s not one of his best singles ever, however this sing-along single will definitely grow on you. His charisma and tongue in cheek attitude really makes him appealing to many. I preferred his Summer single with Dizzie Rascal, but this is a nice change too.

Lady Gaga Feat. R.Kelly - Do What You Want (USA)

I really like the 80s sample. I dislike Lady Gaga in general, I think she tries to shove the “Pop Art” image down people’s throat way too much, THAT said, she has an incredible voice and gives a good show. I’m not always keen on the song-writing, but this track I like.

Foxes - Youth (UK)

Make way for this 24 year old South Hampton lass. She is THAT voice behind Zedd’s ‘Clarity.’  With the melancholy of Lama, the electro pop feel of Ellie and her own little original touch she really is someone to look out for. She has also worked with Fall Out Boy and her hot debut album is scheduled to be released in March!!!

Rihanna - What Now (USA)

The Barbadian beauty keeps re-confirming her relevance in the music scene. A very strong verse and a smashing chorus line makes this tune a definite prized pop song. There are many saying that this is her cry for help, against the dark force which lured her into the Illuminati trap….who knows whether that story is true for the many artists out there… maybe it’s just hype to get everyone to listen to their music…that said, she’s never released anything bad! IMHO.

Rudimental Ft Emeli Sande’ – FREE (UK/Scotland)

When Emeli sings on a track she makes it her own. Her voice gives uniqueness to this powerful single. I love the urban sounds and gospel feel Rudimental bring to FREE. What a great collaboration!!! And as if the fantastic fifth single off Rudimental’s HOME isn’t enough, it is accompanied by a video which’ll have any extreme sport fanatic sitting at the edge of his/her chair.  The video features real life wing suit flier and extreme sports athlete Jokke Sommer gliding through the air around the Eiger mountain in the Alps. The video was directed by Stu Thomson and required no post-production for the stunts, with Sommer displaying his real ability on film.

Well, it has been quite a difficult selection this time round. In the meantime, I would like to let everyone know that this New Years Eve, I will be playing at the La Soiree' Chic. More details are available through the link. You could also win some astonishing prizes in another competition set-up on the page, including a couple of The Fire albums for measure :)

As always stay tuned to my Facebook Page for status/picture/video/music updates and video updates. Click on the link below and become a subscriber to my YouTube channel! The support of 40,000 likes on my Facebook Page is greatly appreciated. My Special Thanks this month go to Coca Cola, Clinton at Hair Factory, Diane Nikolic at GLOW, Drew Warhurst, Godiva Topquality Hair, GUESS Jeans Malta and  FCM Bank.

Malta: Reminiscent Ira Losco Keeps Options Open

Malta’s most successful female artist, Ira Losco seems to be reminiscing about her Eurovision experience back in 2002 in Tallinn, Estonia. She was the first ever Maltese artist to get Malta so high up the scoreboard in second place behind Latvia. Undoubtedly, Ira is surely one of the very few artists who managed to her reputation and a solid career after the Eurovision Song Contest. Alongside her management she was wise enough to use the experience as a springboard to other things and her career took off from there.

She has released six albums after her Eurovision triumph and the material in each and every album reflects Ira’s life, feeling and her gradual maturity. This is something helped her evolve as an artist especially since she started writing her own songs – making her material somewhat biographical. Her down to earth approach and her professionalism, apart from her great tunes, have always been two traits which are surely the reason why Ira is still popular up to this very day.

Her latest album came out early this summer and this was seen as Ira Losco’s comeback into the local scene since she hadn’t released any new material in quite some time. She was still ever so present into the scene with different gigs, television appearances and shows but she was always seen singing her old material. Her album released marked, one of the busiest summers in Ira’s career. Her new songs invaded the local airwaves and her videos achieved thousands of views.

Her comeback has been a solid one and one would assume that she is once again at the peak of her career yet again but we never know what to expect from the local starlet. A lot of music critics and die heart fans believe that Ira Losco is Malta’s best bet at getting the Eurovision Song Contest on our islands for the very first time and few would blame them - with a fresh sound, great image and a solid management team behind her she would be a great bet of doing extremely well.

This could serve up as a spring board to hit the foreign market once again and use the experience as her springboard to it. After her initial success, Ira never actually hinted that she would be interested in doing Eurovision again and a number of people would say that for some time she tried to distance herself from it. Few would blame her as the Eurovision was not seen in high regard with a number of people but the situation slowly changed and some of the biggest production houses became interests in it. Loreen’s international success had a lot to do with it and slowly the perception about the contest is changing.

With the Maltese submissions closing in exactly a fortnight from today, yesterday Ira Losco took her Facebook page and posted a photo with the following caption: “13 yes THIRTEEN years have passed since I represented Malta in Estonia.... Just 12 pouts away from the title!!! Whenever I'm asked if I would ever do it again... I never say no... But it would have to be the right time. Do you think I've changed much from the picture?” So the big question is… Does Ira think this is the right time?

Well one would assume, that she might think it is. Why would she randomly post a photo of her adventure back in 2002, a fortnight before the submissions close? Malta is a Eurovision mad country and to have the local star teasing her fans and her followers in this manner, one would assume that she is up to something. It is rather obvious that this is all speculation but one thing is sure – Ira Losco seems to be interested.

It might not be this year or the next, but you never know. Her career is riding a high wave of success here in Malta – it would be a great way to channel this success to the foreign markets through the blessed Eurovision Song Contest! Maybe one day we’ll get to hear ‘Malta – 12 Points’ and the show will close with ‘See you next year in MALTA’ but if this ever becomes a reality who is going to be the HERO to achieve this feat? Will Ira Losco manage if she decides to give it another shot?

Malta: October's Favourite Tunes by Ira Losco

Whilst September was one of the busiest months for Ira Losco as she prepares for the autumn/winter schedule, she has been kind enough to continue her collaboration as set forth between and Jagged House. The former Eurovision Song Contest representative on behalf of Malta, is one of the most recognised female vocalists in the country. Last year, following an extended period of time off, Ira Losco returned to the local music scene with the track What I'd Give which won her several accolades. Soon after, the launch of both the album entitled The Fire and the second single, bearing the name The Person I Am featuring guest vocals by David Leguesse. The third single off the album entitled Me Luv You Long Time recently got a music video, one which has almost amassed a quarter of a million views.

This month was CRAZY!!!! I didn’t have time to breathe, why doesn’t a day have 48 hours instead!!! I also fell late with submitting my TOP5 as you may have realised! However I’m super proud of the reception of my Video Me Luv u Long Time. The video has gone over 200,000 in just two weeks!! It hit the number 1 spot after 2 weeks of its release too. Good times!!! Welll done once again to ALL involved in the production of my music video namely The Bigger Picture. Here go my top 5 this month!

Phillip Phillips - Gone Gone Gone (USA)

This guy’s name makes me think, what he went through when he was at school. It’s a right div’s name. But it also has a cool ring to it. Lol  I really like the positive energy this song has. It reminds me of a thousand other songs released this year, but just more credible and honest.  Considering he is the product of the Eleventh Edition of America’s  Pop Idol.

Lorde - Royals (New Zealand)

I don’t know why but this girl’s cool and composed style reminds me of Suzanne Vega, vocally she is in the league of ‘SIA’ and ‘ Florence and The Machine’ (in the studio please note). I love the way the beat drops in this track. The last track which had a similar vibe in my opinion was ‘Jem’s’ They. I seriously think her album is gonna be the bomb. It’s the kind of music you come home to, pour a glass of wine, get tipsy and moon people from your balcony to.

Coldplay - Atlas (UK)

I just LOVE the piano on this track. My God can Coldplay write an amazingly dark piano line and make it work in pop. I’m not a HUGE fan, however I can always find myself listening to their songs on repeat, just to wait for my favourite chord, arpeggio, vocal delivery. I haven’t watched The Hunger Games yet, to which this is the soundtrack to apparently … dunno what I’m waiting for, rain and clouds, for a dvd afternoon I guess…oh yes and being slightly less busy heheh!

Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball (USA)

I’m not a fan of Miley. I don’t dislike her, I just never liked her music because it wasn’t directed towards an audience my age. However this track is unbelievable. The video did its purpose. She wanted people to take note, they did. Hammer licking..CHECK, underwear shot…CHECK…swinging naked on a wrecking ball…CHECK ….I guess people everywhere now knows who Miley Cyrus is…even those who would’ve never cared. The song is extremely well written to be the smashing power ballad it needed to be on her new album.

Bastille - Things We Lost in The Fire (UK)

The Londoners ‘Bastille’ are my Top choice. I just love these guys. They remind me of a more posh and pop toned down version of ‘The Bravery.’ I love their effortless way of writing a great pop song.

THIS Friday I will be playing LIVE at the KSU Campus Fest. Can’t wait to see you all there!!!! We will be hitting the stage at 22:30HRS. Entrance is FREE and I will be holding Meet & Greet sessions after the performance. Looking forward to meeting all of you!!! As always stay tuned to my facebook Fanpage for status/picture/video/music updates and BRAND NEW VIDEO updates THIS weekend!!! IF you still haven’t watched the brand new video yet I suggest you click on the link below and become a subscriber to my youtube channel!!

Join the FANPAGE which boasts over 40,000 Likes. For those of you who STILL haven’t purchased The Fire … you can do so by clicking here. My Special Thanks this month again go to One Studios, Nexos Lighting, The Atrium, Clinton at Hair Factory, Justin Brincat, Drew Warhurst, Godiva Topquality Hair, Lynne Salomone Reynaud and Brigitte Gauci Borda Dancers, Matthew Pace, GUESS Jeans Malta and FCM Bank.

Published in Editorials is proud to denote that guest contributor, Ira Losco is still heading the digital charts on iTunes with her sixth studio album The Fire. This means that the record has managed to stay on top for eleven (11) consecutive weeks with the latest single, Me Luv U Long Time also managing number #2 on Malta's Top Ten, having led for three (3) weeks in a row and also number #1 on Bay's Top Thirty which also includes tracks from the foreign music industry. One has to denote that the female vocalists' humble beginnings came from the Eurovision Song Contest where her entry 7th Wonder composed by Philip Vella and penned by Gerard James Borg finished as the first runner-up.

One of the main elements behind her nationwide success is the fact that she has always been grounded and appreciates her fans, the people who have given life to her music. The latest music video supporting the release of Me Luv U Long Time is a masterpiece and has already garnered the attention of leading individuals in the industry who are somewhat signalling future award success for both the vocalist and production company, The Bigger Picture. With almost a quarter of a million views on the music video, it goes to show that apart from achieving local recognition, Ira is on her way to international success once more. The release of the single and the video has been promoted through several fan sites of the Eurovision Song Contest including; escXtra and Wiwiblogs amongst others. In the meantime, we urge you to stay tuned to for her latest blog for the month of September in the next couple of days.
