In recent days, the Public Broadcasting Services published the names of the entries competing in next years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, an effort which will see someone step into the shoes of Gianluca whose entry Tomorrow co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat finished in eighth place. The event, slated to take place on the 7th and 8th February at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre will see to the participation of twenty (20) acts, all vying for the unique prize of representing the country at the biggest musical event in Europe.

At first glance, two names stand out, and of course, those are of two former representatives of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest; Miriam Christine and Fabrizio Faniello. On second look, I would have to note more artists who have returned to the competition, including the likes of Andreana, Romina Mamo, Wayne William, Sophie DeBattista; a former Junior Eurovision Song Contest representative and Pamela; backing vocalist for Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010 and 2011 respectively. It's always positive to see artists who have been missing for a period of time, because it means that they rekindled their flame after a couple of years off.

The newcomers to the festival are also ones which are very much intriguing to denote with Christabelle Borg never declaring herself interested in representing Malta abroad. The four time Best Solo Artist Award winner at the BMAs has thrown her hat into the ring as she heads one of the twenty (20) available bids. Despite being a renowned figure, Daniel Testa's Junior Eurovision Song Contest days are well behind him and his days at a DJ at 89.7 Bay are helping define a personal genre, one which he will be taking to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. Joining him there is Ryan Paul Abela, son of Maestro Paul Abela who has written some of Malta's most iconic entries for the international showcase.

Two final newcomers worth a mention are Debbie Stivala and Raquel Galdes, the latter having been a finalist in this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and the former being a collaborator with notable band, Tribali. On the other hand, the other artists in the field were all present during this years' edition, including none other than; Amber, Davinia, Jessika, Franklin Calleja, Chris Grech, Corazon and Deborah C. It is worth noting that Richard Edwards has joined forces with sister Michelle Mifsud in a band known as Fire Light. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com as the latest news about the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014 is unraveled.

Tomorrow, co-written by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat with vocals provided by Gianluca represented Malta at this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, getting through to the final, and ultimately achieving the nations' first top ten result in eight (8) years, when Chiara took to the stage for the second time with her self-penned entry Angel which had finished in second place. As of today, the Public Broadcasting Services will be receiving submissions from a number of music personnel with the hope of making it through to the final stages of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014.

Fabrizio Faniello, winner of this years’ edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the track Aħfirli Jekk Trid composed by Minik to the lyrics of Rita Pace has been a regular within the local music industry following his comeback back at the 2011 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the song No Surrender written by Johan Stentorp and Johan Bejerholm. escflashmalta.com is a position to confirm that Fabrizio Faniello is hoping for a return to Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark.

This does not really come as a surprise having already been there back in the 2001 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Another Summer Night composed by Paul Abela to the lyrics of Georgina Abela. It is important to note that the last time that Fabrizio was part of the line-up was back in 2012 when his entry I Will Fight For You (Papa’s Song) finishing in sixth place, failing to get past the second eliminatory phase for the very first time in years. It is no secret that the male vocalist and two time former Eurovision Song Contest representative is currently working on a brand new studio album which is set for release throughout 2014. Stay tuned to this portal for more news as it becomes available.

Fabrizio Faniello, a two time representative on behalf of Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest finally managed to triumph in the only song competition which had eluded him, that being the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. His entry entitled Aħfirli Jekk Trid composed by Minik to the lyrics of Rita Pace had been seen as a front runner-up in the weeks leading up to the competition and had also finished in first place on the escflashmalta.com poll which in turn garnered votes from more than 600 individuals. Media.Link Communications in accordance with the Organising Committee of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza published the full results of both the Established and Teenage Categories.

Deborah C, Alison Ellul, Ronald Briffa and Clint Spiteri who were judging last nights' competition seemingly disagreed with the result in general noting that the votes were extremely close. Prior to this year, the system of giving out points was set on forty (40) points for the live performance, thirty (30) points for the music and another thirty (30) points for the lyrics but nevertheless, this system has seemingly been abolished as the points are out of one hundred (100). In the meantime, with an even number of judges, it is highly predictable that you would get a series of ties or close results as seen in the final list published earlier this morning. Fabrizio Faniello had participated in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza on another three occasions, always managing to finish in the top three without achieving the top spot.

  1. Aħfirli Jekk Trid - Fabrizio Faniello (Rita Pace / Minik): 89 points
  2. Hemm Miegħek Jien - Neville (Rita Pace / Minik): 85 points
  3. Ħallini Ngħidlek - Nicole Brincat (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino): 84 points
  4. Perper Rebbieħa - Marie Claire Attard Bason (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino): 75 points

  6. Ejjew Lkoll - Roseann Cordina (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Paul Ellul): 73 points
  7. Armonija - Minik (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino): 72 points
  8. L-Ewlieni - Danica Muscat (Philip Vella / Emil Calleja Bayliss): 71 points
  9. Mhux Pupa Biss - Raquel Galdes (Minik / Rita Pace): 70 points
  10. Magħqudin - Francesco Catania (Ludwig Galea / Augusto Cardinali): 69 points
  11. Inwiegħdek - Josef u Johanna (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino): 68 points
  12. Fejn Hemm L-Għaqda, Hemm Is-Saħħa - Christian Arding (Chan Vella / Alexia Schembri): 67 points
  13. Nibqa' - Janice Mangion (Chan Vella / Alexia Schembri): 67 points
  14. B'Ħarsitna 'l Fuq - Domenique (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Paul Ellul): 67 points

  16. Fraħt Għax Sibtek - Laura Sammut Bruno (Frederick Camilleri): 65 points
  17. M'Intix Waħdek - Kylie Coleiro (Philip Vella / Manila Bottone): 63 points
  18. Riflessi - Karen DeBattista (Mark Scicluna / Emil Calleja Bayliss): 62 points
  19. Rebbiegħa - Kristen Camilleri (Philip Vella / Cher Vella): 61 points
  20. Li Jien Illum - Simarija u Mikhail (Elton Zarb / Natasha Turner): 56 points

The evening was hosted by Christine Haber, a veteran of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza at just twenty-two years of age and Mark Azzopardi, Chairman of the Organising Committee. Despite apparently overseeing proceedings with regards to the competition, the male counter-part was constantly on stage every five (5) entries leaving backstage, jury members and the sound personnel unattended to. This is something that Media.Link Communications and NET Television should address for the following year. As a matter of fact, this point was brought up by Frederick Zammit, former Chairman of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza whose tenure came to an end in 2010, with Amber and her entry Trid Tapprezza, funnily enough, the last contest which critics denote as not bringing up any controversy what so ever. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

In 2001, Fabrizio Faniello managed to garner the ticket to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest with the track Another Summer Night composed by Paul Abela to the lyrics of Georgina Abela before eventually returning for another stint in 2006 with the track I Do which he co-wrote with Aldo Spiteri. Along the years, the male vocalist had managed to triumph in all the major competitions in the country except the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, an event in which he had only managed top three positions.

This year, many had said that his entry Aħfirli Jekk Trid composed by Minik to the lyrics of Rita Pace was the one to beat and indeed, everyone was spot on as the competition that has eluded him for so long has now been conquered. A constant force within the local music scene, Fabrizio managed to revive his career upon entrance into the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2011 as the track No Surrender proved to be a local and foreign hit and ended up being the lead single off his latest album bearing the same name. In an interview given to escflashmalta.com supporting his participation in this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, he stated that he would most likely enter a song in the upcoming edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest if the right melody comes along.

1st Place: Aħfirli Jekk Trid - Fabrizio Faniello (Minik / Rita Pace)

2nd Place: Miegħek Hemm Jien - Neville Refalo (Minik / Rita Pace)

3rd Place: Ħallini Ngħidlek - Nicole Brincat (Minik / Stephen Baldacchino)

Tele-Voting: B'Ħarsitna 'l Fuq - Domenique (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Paul Ellul)

Best Performance: B'Ħarsitna 'l Fuq - Domenique (Mark Spiteri Lucas / Paul Ellul)

Teenage Talent: Kliem Maġija - Kimberly & Lyann (Minik / Lyann)

He had also revealed that the track will be released on iTunes the day following the competition. This means, that it would be the first winning entry of the local competition to be released to the digital music market. Special guests for the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza included Deborah C who had accompanied Fabrizio as a backing vocalist back in 2011 as well as Gianluca who represented Malta at this years' edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The jury for the evening comprised of Alison Ellul, Deborah C, Clint Spiteri and Ronald Briffa. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for the rest of the results and more news as it becomes available.

Aħfirli Jekk Trid, music by Minik with lyrics by Rita Pace is the song that Fabrizio Faniello will be performing at this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. Through his Official Facebook Page, Fabrizio revealed that he plans to release the song as a single through digital store, iTunes. This is innovative for entries competing in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza which never get solo release. The public have shown a true liking to Aħfirli Jekk Trid which currently ranks in the top five of tele-voting and also lies in first place on the escflashmalta.com poll just ahead of Li Jien Illum by Simarija and Mikhail.

This years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza scheduled to be held on the 19th September 2013 on The Granaries in Floriana is set to be hosted by Mark Azzopardi and Christine Haber with live broadcast on NET Television. Apart from the twenty participants competing in the Established Category, there will be three (3) artists who will make it through from the Teenage Category apart from the special guests which will include none other than; Gianluca who represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest with the track Tomorrow with music and lyrics by Boris Cezek and Dean Muscat as well as former Malta Eurovision Song Contest participant; Deborah C who was also the winner of last years' edition of the local competition with the song Jekk Nużaw Moħħna composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Joe Chircop.

In a recent interview with escflashmalta.com, Fabrizio declined to confirm on whether he would be submitting an entry for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest stating that he is currently working on a brand new studio album and should a particular song fit into the requirement of the competition, then he would most likely submit. Something that could spur the return of Fabrizio to the elite international forum could definitely be the fact that the Eurovision Song Contest is taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark which was the same place where the male vocalist made his debut back in 2001 with the song Another Summer Night composed by Paul Abela with lyrics by Georgina Abela. In the meantime, stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more news about Aħfirli Jekk Trid which will be released a digital single through CAP Sounds and Universal Music Germany on the day following the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza.

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is a local competition which aims to promote the national language of the nation through the medium of song. The most familiar name in this years' line-up is that of Fabrizio Faniello, an individual who has been to the Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions, achieving mixed results. He returns to this showcase with one aim, to win and in order to do that, he is competing with the track Aħfirli Jekk Trid composed by Minik with lyrics by Rita Pace. Below, our editorial board devised a set of questions in order to get to know Fabrizio a little bit better whilst Chris and Moira have also heard all of the entries in order to comment on them. With regards to Fabrizio, they stated that 'the song has amazing lyrics! and that the vocal performance is passionate and stunning' ultimately awarding him with a maximum ten (10) points.

In 2006, the public entrusted you to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest for the second time in five years with the track I Do which you co-wrote with Aldo Spiteri. Unfortunately, the performance at the international spectacle left much to be desired and the result reflected this fact, with only Albania offering some sort of relief. Would you have done anything differently and do you regret taking part once more?

There where circumstances in the performing that sure I would do differently today as now I know what and why it went wrong back in the days …. But, even bad experiences make you stronger if you are ready to learn from them, therefore I am very unhappy for the result, but I won’t regret it, - it gave me an aim in life now ….. to prove I can do much better, - No Surrender!!

In this years’ edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, you will be performing the song Ahfirli Jekk Trid composed by Minik to the lyrics of Rita Pace. This is your second foray into the competition within recent years having previously reached third place with the track Futur composed by Minik with lyrics by Clinton Paul by the same team. The difference between the two songs is relatively evident but that is surely a positive feature. Which out of the song do you prefer and why?

Both Rita and Minik have done an amazing job on the song that they presented. It seems like the were reading my mind when they wrote this song. In the meantime, Futur is a great song too and I was happy with the result, now of course I hope that the new song is beloved by the people and the judges, as this festival is the only one I did not win so far in Malta, so pleeeeeease, help me reach my goal!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoMvYHCbOm0

You entered the local music scene at a relatively young age noting your debut within the Malta Eurovision Song Contest back in 1998 with the track More Than Just a Game composed by Paul Abela with lyrics by Georgina Abela. On that occasion, you were the first runner-up and ultimately managed to get to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 with the track Another Summer Night co-written by the same team. Do you think that the jury and the public made the right choice from the entries you put forward towards the international competition?

I think “Another Summer Night” and “I do” are great songs and it was the right choice, nevertheless I would have loved too to perform “No Surrender” in front of an international competition, I got so many positive feedbacks from people who loved the song, - whatever, we have to accept and respect the results, it’s a competition.

Manfred Holz of CAP-Sounds has stood by you as your manager throughout both positive and negative experiences and that is the way that a management should be. Your record label works under the division of Universal Music Germany and thus your material has garnered considerable exposure. Did you actually believe that your comeback would prove to be so successful and are you planning to return to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2014, following a one year gap?

I am very thankful for the work Manfred and the team of CAP-Sounds are doing for me and as well for many other artists, just right now they did a German cover version of “I Do” and this one jumped into the DJ Charts over there, that’s great for me as a writer too … Currently we are working on new material for the upcoming album release in 2014 and end of September I am flying again to Germany for recording sessions of new songs, we will see then, if there is a song in it, which could attract the Eurovision crowd ….

What would you like to tell our readers at escflashmalta.com?

Once again I would like to thank all supporters and fans from escflashmalta.com , musicians need loyal fans! For everybody of you who wants to see a bit more of me in future, I am doing a brand-new Television Program starting in October, for which you could find more information by visiting the official facebook page!

Media.Link Communications in collaboration with escflashmalta.com is proud to present the seventh week of the programme Indifest hosted by Mark Azzopardi and Christine Haber through NET Television on Thursday evening as from 20:30 CET onwards. In support of this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, the weekly programme seeks to promote the artists competing in one of three competitions which promote the local language. Whether newcomers or somewhat established, their place is still amongst the general elite. The public has the opportunity to select which three entries they would like to qualify from the Teenage Talent portion of the competition as well selecting their top favourite within the 'established category' which is offered as a seperate award.

The Established Category of this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is a progression towards the future noting a mixture of young and veteran artists who look towards impressing the judges on the night of the competition. In this evenings' programme, first up is Fabrizio Faniello with the track Aħfirli Jekk Trid composed by Minik with lyrics by Rita Pace. The male vocalist has been to the Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions, but has only managed third place in this competition before. Dil-Fjura Għalik, composed by Kaya to the lyrics of Emil Calleja Bayliss with vocals by Naomi Roberts is the song which is being promoted from the Teenage Category of this years' Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. As always, the performances from the Teenage Talent category are all live in order to assess the vocal skills of all the respective artists apart from bearing in mind the potential of each entry. In the meantime, there will also be a number of guests including none other than Gianluca, who successfully represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Tomorrow co-written by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek and Donna Borg Leyland who will be representing Malta within the international Miss World competition in a couple of months. RTP, the public broadcaster responsible for the participation of Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest is set to announce a return to the competition within the next couple of weeks. The nation which is yet to win the international showcase has not managed to enter the top five thus far, with the best result being a sixth place finish achieved by Lucia Moniz and her entry O Meu Coração Não Tem Cor back in 1996. Ruslana, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 recently stated that she wants Rui Andrade to represent the country and take the crown back home. The male vocalist who is a known figure in Portugal has recently covered Fabrizio Faniello's song I Do during an open air concert in Setubal.

Ruslana, a famous artist in the Eastern side of the continent is fully backing the artist to represent Portugal upon their return and technically speaking, the public would definitely show their support noting that Rui was a second runner-up within the Portuguese national selection on two consecutive years; in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Headlining an open air festival in the city of Setubal, Andrade showed his love towards the Eurovision Song Contest by choosing a song from the 2006 edition to perform. He had three songs during the course of the evening and thus the selection was very much thought of in advance. With crystal clear diction and a strong vocal repertoire, it is easy to see why Ruslana recommends him to do the honours for his nation. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news.
