Indifest, hosted by Mark Azzopardi and Christine Haber on NET Television returns for a fifth consecutive episode this evening following the initial success of the past four weeks in which a total of twelve entries from this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza have been presented. Viewers have the opportunity to select their favourite tracks from both the Established and Teenage Category whilst watching the programme or during the rest of the day as clips could be seen either on television or online. Media.Link Communications and escflashmalta.com are working together in several areas in order to promote the competition in the best possible way noting that it remains as the leading showcase for the Maltese language through the medium of song. The programme starts at 20:30 CET.

In this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, the Established Category has been denoted to include within it a mixture of young and upcoming talent which is representative of the future local music scene. In this evenings' programme, first up is none other than Laura Bruno with the song Fraħt Għax Sibtek written by Frederick Camilleri. The female artist is participating in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza for the third time and is still hoping to make her Malta Eurovision Song Contest debut. On the other hand, joining her this evening from the same category is Domenique with the track B'Ħarsitna 'l Fuq composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and lyrics by Paul Ellul. Domenique reached the final stages of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year having also reached the semi-final back in 2011.

Michelle Portelli is one of the solo performers competing in the teenage talent portion of the competition and will therefore have to perform her entry Għix live for the very first time. The track composed by Minik to the lyrics of Rita Pace is written in an uptempo fashion. As has been the case in the first couple of episodes, there will be two special guests, both of which are vocalists; the first one being The Greenfields, a folkloristic group who represent the most positive elements of the music industry of the days gone by and the second one being Christabelle, three time winner of the Solo Artist accolade at the Bay Music Awards. Annalise Ellul who was a guest during the first programme will oversee her dancers as they occupy the role of resident guests. Remember Indifest returns to NET Television, this evening at 20:30 CET. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for the latest news.

Tomorrow, co-written by Dean Muscat and Boris Cezek with vocals by Gianluca will be representing Malta in the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Sweden. As has become customary in recent years, the editorial team of escflashmalta.com will be collaborating with Juergen Boernig and his team at Radio International to keep you posted on the latest happenings directly from the venue throughout the two weeks. In the meantime, from home base in Malta, we are pleased to announce that for the third year running, a number of guests have been enlisted to aid in covering the semi-finals and the actual final respectively. It is a case of letting the people know what individuals from the music industry think of the international showcase. The line-up this year is quite strong and we are pleased to welcome all of them on board as guest commentators.

This years' Eurovision Song Contest officially kicks off with the first semi-final on the 14th May 2013 and will ultimately feature seventeen (17) entries with another three (3) countries having the right to cast their vote despite already having a place in the final. This is the semi-final in which Malta will not be competing and therefore, we thought it best to have two local stars in the form of Claudia Faniello and Errol Sammut whom as many people know have become a powerhouse couple in recent months and are working together on new material. Claudia Faniello is a two time first runner-up at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and earlier this year competed with the song When It's Time co-written with Errol Sammut. The male singer/songwriter is mostly known as being the lead vocals of the popular band, Airport Impressions who are also working on a brand new album at the moment. Emil Calleja Bayliss, Head of Press for escflashmalta.com has been enlisted to carry out this report alongside two of the nations' leading vocalists.

Following the first semi-final is the second semi-final taking place on the 16th May 2013 which will feature a total of sixteen (16) entries with once more another three (3) countries having the right to cast their vote despite already having a place in the final. This is actually the semi-final in which Malta will be competing in and with nerves running high on qualification, we thought to mix it up a bit within this evening. From a local front, we are pleased to have with us, Davinia who was the second runner-up at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the track Betrayed composed by Elton Zarb to the lyrics of Matt (Muxu) Mercieca whilst from a foreign front we will have, Simon Casey who definitely does not need any introduction having amassed Gold and Platinum discs in Ireland for his first two albums apart from an Irish number #1 single entitled A Better Plan which was also runner-up to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003. Antoine Farrugia, one of our brightest new talents on the escflashmalta.com editorial team will be carrying out his duty.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DH26TKwtzw

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest is always an interesting spectacle because the qualifiers would have upped their game from the semi-final stage whilst the big five perform along with the previous years' winner which in this case will be Sweden with Robin Stjernberg at the track You. We have decided to go almost completely female for the final noting that all of the three guest commentators, two being Maltese and the other being Irish are female. As a matter of fact, Brooke and Christabelle who are two of the leading artists in the local music scene will be analysing the performances with a critical eye following the success of Fairytale and Say respectively. Joining them is Lauren White, a singer/songwriter who just signed a publishing deal with Universal Music and working on some material material. She was co-writer of the song Fire in this years' Late Late Show Eurosong special alongside Niall Mooney and Willie Weeks. Marc Calleja Bayliss, Editor-In-Chief of escflashmalta.com will co-ordinate proceedings from the editorial board.

2013 is officially just a couple of hours away and several people are already gearing up to pop the corks off their champagne bottles but nevertheless, there is still one more day to go through and hopefully, that will also be one to remember in a positive manner. It has been an endearing year, with several positive aspects. As a matter of fact, we have been through the major news items for both the general Eurovision Song Contest as well as the local music scene and one could easily denote the progress that has been made on both a national and a foreign level of vocal talent and songs in general. Kicking off things in January, one has to remember that the announcement of the semi-finalists of the 2012 Malta Eurovision Song Contest took place on the programme Xarabank preceding a number of promotional activities which took place across the national broadcasters' frequencies including Television Malta, Radju Malta and Maltin Biss.

That is just the beginning noting that when the showcase actually came about as held in the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre at the end of February, several people were shocked to see that Eleanor Cassar with the song I Want to Runaway and Annalise Ellul with Whoop It Up! were eliminated at the first hurdle. The final also opened up a number of questions due to the fact that Kurt Calleja with the track This Is The Night managed to beat the favourite Claudia Faniello with Pure despite not managing to win the full approval of the jury. According to unconfirmed statistics, he won the tele-voting by a large margin which secured his representation of the country. At this same time that the event was being staged, organisers of the Għanja tal-Poplu were gearing up for the return of the competition and indeed, they managed to garner forty two (42) entries in total, including from Malta Eurovision Song Contest semi-finalist; Janice Mangion, Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza finalist; Grecia Bezzina and escflashmalta.com contributor; Clive Muscat. February was proving to be a month of competitions and in fact, our portal covered the Sanremo showcase extensively through Elaine Camilleri, seeing to the victory of Emma Marrone with favourite Arisa languishing in second place. In the meantime, Kurt Calleja had begun his promotional tour in the same month heading to the artist selection in Azerbaijan, strengthening the bond created between the two countries in the previous year.

In just a couple of weeks, the fever of the Eurovision Song Contest was sweeping the continent and it was revealed that the British Broadcasting Corporation had chosen a legend in the form of Engelbert Humperdinck to represent the United Kingdom. The announcement was met with mixed criticism noting that ultimately his entry Love Will Set You Free did not really achieve the expected result but nevertheless in Malta, there were other elements at hand noting that the original backing vocalist with the track This Is The Night being Ylenia Vella was sacked by the Public Broadcasting Services and replaced by Amber who had in February obviously finished in third place with her entry Answers With Your Eyes without any public support. Kurt Calleja did not answer any questions about the change and continued his promotion in Bulgaria and Lithuania whilst also filming the promotional video of the track on his return to the country. In Malta, on a private television station known as NET Television, preparations for the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza had begun and Simone Gauci was announced as the first finalist following her victory on Passport 2 Indifest having beaten former finalist; Marie Claire Attard Bason in the process. Her entry bearing the name Id F'Id was specifically written for her by Renato Briffa and Keith Zammit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW__hvxcikc

In April, it was all about Kurt Calleja and Malta's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest noting that he had managed to top the local iTunes chart with his entry whilst also visiting another set of countries; Turkey, Georgia and The Netherlands bringing his promotional tour to an end in a major party which included several major interviews. One of the male stars of the local music industry, Fabrizio Faniello continued to rebuild his image and the release of his album Kasmaran in Indonesia proved to be a massive success denoting the artist as a star in the Asian country. escflashmalta.com continued to work extremely close with a number of sources and uncovered that Elaine Saliba was set to be the commentator for Malta at the international competition, although it was then revealed at a later stage that Ronald Briffa would be aiding her analysis providing some comic relief.  The impressive younger generation of musical prodigies never cease to amaze and Gaia Cauchi won the right to represent the country in Sanremo Junior 2012, ultimately becoming the winner a couple of months later. The month came to an end with one of the artists of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, being Wayne releasing the official video clip for his self penned track entitled Time with which he had competed a couple of months earlier.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmxAJv9dd6I

The month of the Eurovision Song Contest quickly came about and May seemed to be quite intriguing in the local music market with the return of Christabelle with the track Say as well as Brooke with Fairytale but the media was somewhat enthralled at the single release of Miss You with main vocals by Wintermoods featuring the renowned international tenor; Joseph Calleja. It was also a month in which the finalists for the 2012 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza were revealed, quickly noting that this had to be one of the fields which was missing a lot of the more predominant names yet nevertheless featuring the upcoming generation of artists such as Domenique, and Danica Muscat amongst others. Performing at the Eurovision Song Contest, Kurt Calleja made the country proud on the night of the semi-final achieving seventh place but it seems that nerves got the best of him on a Saturday night with his performance dropping in quality although this did not hurt his success charting on the iTunes top 100 in Austria, Greece, Norway, Sweden and of course, Malta. escflashmalta.com kept their annual coverage with guest commentators including Simon CaseyRaquelaClaudia FanielloSophieMagnus Kaxe and Christabelle. Thousands of people viewed the respective reports and with the aid of the team of Radio International and Eurovision Ireland, the competition was analysed and covered in the most profound and detailed way possible.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjhBsCop3Ys

With the months leading up to the competition behind everyone, the summer was set to kick in and in fact, June was a relatively quiet month with the Public Broadcasting Services confirming their intentions to not return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. On the other hand, Sophie was representing the country in the United Kingdom during the celebrations of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, undergoing a cross-country tour which saw her perform with the likes of X Factor runner-up, Marcus Collins whilst Kevin Borg was being wooed by the local public who wanted to see him represent the country in Sweden, the winning nation of the Eurovision Song Contest. The annual award for the worst dressed artist at the Eurovision Song Contest was decided with Rona Nishliu on behalf of Albania finishing on top. July proved to be less quiet and somewhat more eventful with Sweden deciding on Malmo as host city of the Eurovision Song Contest with the winner also coming to Malta to give a concert. In fact, on the Islands, things were becoming quite interesting with the Joseph Calleja concert featuring Ronan Keating, Gigi D'Alessio and Amber taking place on the Floriana Granaries, days before the official single release of What I'd Give by Ira Losco, her first track taken off the 2013 yet untitled album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kw7rby8Zuk

August came about but was quiet uneventful once more with Ira Losco releasing the official video for her new single and Kurt Calleja working on new material off a yet untitled album slated for release in 2013. In fact, Boomerang was picked up on 89.7 Bay and also made the charts by virtue of the amount of airplay received. As autumn and September drew in, the Public Broadcasting Services released the regulations for the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest whilst other sectors of the scene were showing their strengths as new singles were also released by Janvil entitled Make My Day, Muxu bearing the name Pour Down on Me and last but not least a young girl brand coined as Cryptic Street with Indecisive. The second major music competition in Malta known as the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza was won by Deborah C with the track Jekk Nużaw Moħħna written by Mark Spiteri Lucas and Joe Chircop. Success was a thing of the month noting that the popular pop/rock band known as Airport Impressions went on tour in Sweden, headlining three major events and garnering international recognition. escflashmalta.com continued to air the local music scene by virtue of releasing a number of videos exclusively including the one of Muxu which you could also view just below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOkzSTpdpgY

It seemed like winter would not be setting foot on the country this year with October coming in full swing and the music scene bringing things up to speed in an excruciatingly busy ratio with exclusive video releases by Cryptic Street and Fabrizio Faniello along with new singles released by the group Cruz; Good On You, Chiara; Forget Forgetting Me, Dimal & Lyndsay; Let's Make It Happen. During this time, one of the singles was also picked up by a record label and as a matter of fact, Chiara is now a true recording artist with the backing of an Icelandic record label which also takes care of former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Hera Bjork. Whilst pop and rock are seemingly the two most popular genre in the country, the duo known as Tenishia received an accolade of which the whole country should be proud of with the official DJ Mag putting them as the fiftieth best in the world ahead of renowned musicians like Benny Benassi. The Public Broadcasting Services revealed that they received a total of 182 submissions for the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest from a variety of countries and a matter of fact, submissions were sent in from four former representatives including; Fabrizio Faniello, Miriam Christine, William Mangion and Ludwig Galea but none of them would make the cut in the long run. The collaboration between this portal and the series D.R.E.A.M.S continued as a second season written by the talent Vella Haber and Saliba La Rosa returned featuring two main new actresses being Michela Dalli and Kristen Camilleri.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hchM2x458X0

The month of November, was finally starting to show signs that the weather would be cooling down and in fact, the revelation of the twenty-four semi-finalists of the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest seemed to be the only heated moment with a host of newcomers revealed in the list especially artists who have garnered attention through radio such as the likes of Gianluca Bezzina, and Davinia with others coming from notable national showcases including Chris Grech. December was relatively quiet noting that in the beginning, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place with Ukraine finishing on top with the track Nebo but the focus of the local music scene was surely on the Bay Music Awards which saw Red Electrick walk away with a total of two awards in total, the most of the night which also saw success going in the way of JJoy, Kelly StellfoxIra Losco, Carlo Gerada, Jan Cortez, Christabelle, and Cryptic Street. The Malta Eurovision Song Contest also hit a bump on the head with the withdrawal of Saska Hunt and the track Dress Rehearsal who was replaced by the first alternate on the list; Marilena Gauci with the track Overrated. We indeed hope that this year in fact wasn't just that and that it was ideal for each and every one of you. We look forward to serving you for another eventful year, as 2013 dawns in a couple of hours.

89.7 Bay embarked on a mission a couple of years back to promote the local music scene and considering the astonishing amount of tracks that have been played on the radio station throughout this particular year, it seems that their efforts are paying off noting that success has become their trademark. The ninth edition of the Bay Music Awards which took place last night at the Bay Arena in St Julians were running under the theme Party Like It's The End of the World and there was a buzzing feeling in the crowd featuring people of all generations, representing the various artists who were nominated or performed. The build up was intense and several people were left on edge until the first performance, even preceding the introduction of the hosts took place. A lot was riding on the evening which included live performances for the very first time and apart from some mixing issues in the beginning of two performances, one could say it was a huge success.

89.7 Bay well represents the upcoming generation of artists and it seems that the fans that they are bringing with them are becoming more vocal when considering that the new guard was well promoted and ultimately ended up winning the most awards amongst seasoned veterans whose music is still very strong with the right to garner airplay and even nominations. Nevertheless, when tele-voting is the source of the actual vote, it is to be noted that the fan base becomes notorious and the younger generation have become accustomed to this element. Without a doubt, the live performances went down well with the crowd noting that Scar, BrookeChristabelleDimal ft Lyndsay and Red Electrick gave the show the much needed boost to make it stand out. The audience was in full support to the act pictures above though as announced at the latter stage of the evening by Benjamin Glover, one of the three hosts of the evening which also included Dorian Cassar of Bay Breakfast and Nathan D from Malta's Top Ten and the Drive-time Show.

The Bay Music Awards have become a welcome event in the local music calender and it was quite the evening when considering that following a two year break from the scene, Ira Losco made her return following her successful stint with her new single What I'd Give during the summer. The 2002 Eurovision Song Contest representative has been relatively busy in the past couple of months working on a brand new album which will be unveiled to the public in January. In the meantime, the biggest winners of the evening; Red Electrick are making headlines in several fields with one of their co-writes also competing in the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest which is taking place on the 1st and 2nd February 2013. We would like you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com as our collaboration with 89.7 Bay continues to develop in the way that it has in the past couple of months.

BMA 2012: Solo Artists That Stand Out

In the past, the local music scene was somewhat well adapted to promoting artists who had a solid solo career rather than possibly those who would team up and create a band although, the few which eventually did managed to release some stunning music as we pay them tribute. This has been a changing trend noting that there are a number of bands presently and they have been achieving a lot of success on both local and foreign waters, making them somewhat enviable at times. One should not fret about the other section of the industry though because the artists who are trying to do it on their own are also managing to find their feet with some funky modern music which is always enjoyed by the masses. 89.7 Bay has always been on the forefront to promote talent which is spectacular and easy on the ear. Therefore, it is not surprising to note that for the ninth edition of the Bay Music Awards, the Best Solo Artist of the past couple of months will be given an award during a ceremony which is taking place at the Bay Arena on the 12th December 2012 hosted by Ben Glover, Dorian Cassar and Nathan D, the latter of which is pictured below.

Five solo artists have been given a nomination and it is up to their fans and radio listeners alike to select the very best from the possible choices. It is worth pointing out that three females will be competing against two males and the former take precedence as per gesture. In fact, the first nominee is Christabelle, a talented young individual who has been around for quite some time by virtue of working her way into public perception in a number of showcases such as the Junior Eurosong and the Għanja tal-Poplu competition before heading out to try and conquer the world of local radio, something that she has so far achieved successfully. For the past three years, Christabelle has gladly taken up the award noting that she has released a number of number #1 singles including; Everything About You, I Wanna KnowEverytime I Bleed and most recently Say which will be unveiled once more at the awards show in a different manner. Her latest single was proudly released onto digital platforms online through the help of CAP Sounds, a German company which runs under the supervision of Universal Music Germany and which has taken care of several Maltese entries in the Eurovision Song Contest in the past.

The second artist to feature on the list of nominees does not need too much introduction either with Muxu building a solid fan-base over the years by virtue of releasing material in r'n'b format whilst also collaborating with a number of other artists along the way. The renowned male performer has managed to reach the higher echelons of the airplay at 89.7 Bay on several occasions including with tracks such as Still Missing You (ft. Talitha), Feel Good Song (ft. Davinia), Broken, Beat My DrumElectronicSo Good and his most recent release coming at the end of September entitled Pour Down On Me. Muxu has worked with escflashmalta.com several times, even releasing his last two music videos exclusively with this portal. He brings about variety and distinction and tends to stand out from the crowd just for the sake of being original. It is also worth noting that, just a couple of days ago, it was revealed that he is also one of the songwriters in the 2013 Malta Eurovision Song Contest as he penned the lyrics to the song Betrayed, composed by Elton Zarb, which will be performed on the semi-final of the showcase on the 1st February 2013.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOkzSTpdpgY

Moving onto artist number three, a female who goes by the stage name of Brooke, a talented young artist who does not live in Malta anymore choosing to pursue her career in the United Kingdom where she is also studying. In a similar route taken up by Christabelle, Brooke started from the Junior Song for Europe before showing prowess in her later years and began performing with up and coming singer Daniele, an Italian on a regular basis. Just a couple of years later, she also recorded the track Echo with the Sanremo Giovani winner; Tony Maiello and performed the song live on The X Factor which back then used to air on RAI DUE. She has never looked back ever since and has released a series of hit singles including Achilles Heel, Love Not War, Fairytale and her latest being Bingo. She has been known to perform mainly generic pop with some fusion of r'n'b synths but what makes her wanted for more performances is the fact that she sounds great when she sings live, on most occasions, better than the recording. escflashmalta.com have been honoured to have also worked with her on the release of the video for the track Fairytale earlier this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7GNFjM_rms

According to the latest reports, the partner of the artist above is none other than Kurt Calleja, the fourth nominee in this years' solo artist category who has gained fame through the world of competitions. In fact, the male singer first appeared on the music scene alongside Kaya in the performance of Waterfall, before returning as a solo performer in 2011 with the track Over and Over, which reached third place and catapulted him to local success. Earlier this year, he entered with the song This Is The Night and ultimately won the competition over fan favourite Claudia Faniello and represented the country abroad making it through to the final selection of the event before ultimately only managing twenty-first place. Since returning back from the Eurovision Song Contest, Kurt Calleja has released a brand new track entitled Boomerang and is planning several more releases in the coming months including a debut album which will surely involve some cracking tunes that people will end up enjoying.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxNt7uj35u4

The final artist to have been nominated for the Best Solo Artist award is actually one who has been around in the local music industry the longest and has marked her return to the scene earlier this year with a strong number entitled What I'd Give. Ira Losco was one of the people who worked her way up to the top by reaching the best possible lengths in competitions including being the Maltese representative at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2002 and also winning the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza back in 2001. At this point in time, Ira has released six studio albums including those for remixes and acoustic versions respectively. Following her stint at the international competition, the female performer started to reinvent herself and in fact, signed a record deal with Jagged House to start working with songwriter and producer Howard Keith. The collaboration has been a huge success and Ira has been rekindling her followers in anticipation for the release of a brand new album in the beginning of the new year. During the evening like all of the performers mentioned above, Ira will be performing live so make sure to enjoy the show.

This was the second  in a series of features that escflashmalta.com has planned for the 2012 edition of the Bay Music Awards and that is because people have to party as if it's the end of the world. In order to vote for the Best Solo Artist Award, it is vital to send an sms with either of these acts' respective name sakes as show in the article in bold to 50615304. One of the most professional commitments that Media.Link Communications has kept through thick and thin is surely towards music noting that the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza has always been given priority with the right exposure to promote all of the artists competing in the event through the means of a weekly television programme which has been given the name Indifest. The annual showcase which features original tracks in the Maltese language has maintained very high standards throughout time in terms of quality noting the number of changes implemented for the twentieth edition last year under the direction of a brand new Chairman, Mark Azzopardi who not only returns in his position but also takes up the production of the programme to make sure that everything is well merged together when it comes to the competition and the promotion given. In the meantime, NET Television and their professional crew have been busy recording all of the songs, preview videos, which were uploaded through viral website, YouTube but nevertheless, we encourage you to follow Indifest and escflashmalta.com to to get to know the people in the competition better.

The 2012 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza features a host of talent noting that there are a number of newcomers as well as individuals who have been rightfully earning their place in the local music industry. Apart from meeting three (3) people each week, two (2) from the Established Category and one from the Teenage Category, there are also a number of weekly special guests. In fact, last week, the programme had the proud pleasure of presenting Glen Vella was the Maltese representative at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with the track One Life composed by Paul Giordimaina and penned by Fleur Balzan. Many people would remember him competing in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza as a soloist and in duets with Eleanor Cassar.

Once more, returning as a producer for this episode and for all of the series is none other than Mark Azzopardi who is also the chairman of the committee behind the competition. It is somewhat imperative to have such a distinctive persona behind both the programme and the competition so that there is a merge in terms of decisions. There has been a lot of work done behind the scenes to make sure that all of the finalists receive the same amount of promotion noting the videos, the photo shoot and also the appearances on the actual programme which is being hosted by Christine Haber and Ronald Briffa, two names who clearly need no introduction to the viewers of NET Television and also other broadcasters. In this weeks' episode, the main guests from the Established Category will be none other than Simone Gauci with the song Id F'Id composed by Renato Briffa and penned by Keith Zammit and also Laura Bruno with the track Kemm Xtaqt written by Frederick Camilleri. The former was the wildcard choice having been the winner of the Passport 2 Indifest competition through Spiteri Lucas Entertainment.

The special guests for this week are ones that come from the contemporary part of the local music industry noting that they will be none other than recent chart topping artist; Christabelle who will most likely be performing her latest single Say which has been licenced through CAP Sounds Music as well as Lyndsay Pace who is known for her energetic tracks with even more spectacular dance routines. It is quite important to note that the Vogue Dancers will be marking their return on the programme. Therefore, with such a jam packed programme this evening, we encourage you to turn on NET Television at 20:30 and watch yet another Indifest hosted by Ronald Briffa and Christine Haber with all of the exciting questions posed by James Cassar.

Malta: Say by Christabelle on iTunes

The local music scene seems to pick up during the summer months noting that a number of artists prefer to release their music during this period in time for the simple reason that it would be further exposed to foreigners who would be listening to the radio whilst at the beach or in the sanctity of their rooms whilst here on holiday. One of the tracks which has been receiving a lot of attention through 89.7 Bay Radio is none other than Say performed by Christabelle. The renowned performer had earned a name for herself through the years noting that she had started from local music competitions such as the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and also the Għanja tal-Poplu amongst others. Things changed when she grew up, taking up the r'n'b genre as her vocation so to speak. This brand new track has been leading the local airplay charts for three consecutive weeks now and is defined as a new starting chapter for Christabelle.

In recent weeks, it seems that Christabelle and the track have garnered some international attention noting that the track has been given a local and international release through the medium of iTunes. It has long been noted that successful ventures do indeed go a long way in the music industry and our premier collaboration with 89.7 Bay in an exclusive interview with Carlo Gerada proved to be quite a promising start securing support for the performer and his track My World from all spectrums of society through our portal. Therefore, we will be moving forward with the next interview focusing on Christabelle who has most recently also been featured on escflashmalta.com for the release of her new single Say which is already topping the chart in fact. It seems that things are really moving into a good direction for her especially when considering that it has all been an ascension throughout time.

Christabelle is one of the most consistent artists in the local music scene having been around for quite some time working around a variety of genres including rhythm and blues, pop and even swing noting that she is quite versatile so to speak. Nevertheless, this single has something different from anything she has released in the past and therefore holds a high personal regard to her and to her followers. The track Say managed to dethrone Paul by Red Electrick from the number #1 position following four weeks at the top as announced earlier this week on 89.7 Bay on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D. Should you have missed the programme, make sure to visit the official page and listen to the podcast recording of the whole show. In the meantime, we had the opportunity to ask a couple of questions to Christabelle.

Each artist grows and adapts genres to particular features in vocals or even at times public perception but how has Christabelle changed over the years through her music?

Well since I started singing at a very young age, the music I used to listen to back has evolved. Since I experienced the States I feel that my music has evolved in a way that it has matured me.

Your latest single entitled Say has just been revealed to be this weeks' number #1 on Malta's Local Top Ten with Nathan D following a couple of weeks in the runner-up position because of the success of the track Paul by Red Electrick having kept the top spot for a month. How does it feel that yet again, you are leading the pack?

The track Paul from Red Elektrick is probably one of my favourite maltese tracks, infact whilst Im driving and Paul starts playing on the radio I always put the volume up hehe. To be honest It was enough of a priviledge being no 2 as at the moment there are so many new artists with a whole lot of potential and talent that even though I have been in the scene for quite a while now I always say that talent here is continuously getting better. Now that my Single Say is no 1 for it's first week Im over the moon because as I mentioned before the talent is extraordinary for such a small island, nevertheless I always have faith in the songs that I co-write and perform so I m really grateful SAY is number #1.

Many feel that your latest single is very different to what has been released in the past signally a new start for Christabelle as a performer. Have you encountered anything different in life that made you turn to this type of genre?

SAY is my 6th single which I have released and Its my favourite one of the bunch. Why? Because it's so catchy it makes you wanting to keep singing it even after the song finishes. Well at least thats the feedback Im getting from a lot of people. Its a new step towards the right direction in my opinion. The lyrics behind this track are extremely powerful and gradually the song becomes as powerful showing a bit of the aggressive side of my voice. What I really wanted to showcase most in this track is my voice. I am a very emotional singer and I tend to feel every single lyric as if it's happening at that very same moment.

You have released quite a large amount of singles in the past couple of years as you grew into the artist you have become today but will people get the chance to see you release an album sometime soon and what is the general plan for your music in 2012?

My plan for this year is definitely going to be to start working on an album, trying to incorporate my previous singles along with new ones. My other plans are that as always I love performing, trying to get to perform at a number of events and doing my best to please the crowd watching.

It has been noted how many young artists have grown to become well known in Malta with contacts being made with foreign songwriters and producers who ultimately help in creating or rather shaping up a career. Two of the most notable names are surely those of Brooke and Christabelle, both of whom have a number of followers due to the fact that their genres are very different from each other and have succeeded in racking up awards for each of their specialities respectively. They are currently working on promoting their most recent singles Fairytale and Say which are being played on local airwaves.

Looking back through the confines of time, one would remember a young, beautiful and talented Brooke taking part in the Junior Song for Europe remembering that she was robbed of the top position when she performed the heart out of the song Forever Love only finishing in sixth place. Nevertheless though, she showed prowess and just a couple of months later, the singer seemed destined for success and began performing with the Italian up and comer Daniele before then even duetting with the renowned winner of Sanremo Giovani Tony Maiello on the track Echo which was also performed on the likes of RAI DUE. Later on though Brooke decided to embark to London and from there onwards, she has not looked back releasing wonderful tracks such as Achilles Heel and Love Not War amongst others. Her latest single Fairytale is already a hit peaking at number #4 in this weeks edition of the Bay Radio Local Chart.

It was somewhat of a similar beginning for the beautiful Christabelle whose charming smile has managed to capture the memories of many individuals. Her initial participations in the Junior Song for Europe mostly her last one ended in dismay but set the tone for the future noting that the first major competition she competed in outside of this was actually a victory with the song Aċċetani Kif Jien in the 2006 edition of the Għanja tal-Poplu. Since then though, she has decided to take up an R'n'B genre which has proven extremely successful especially at the Bay Music Awards where she has managed to rack up the Best Female Artist accolade on a number of occasions. Some of the songs which she has released and have peaked at number #1 include none other than Everything About You, I Wanna Know and Everytime I Bleed amongst others. She seems to be destined for another top spot with her latest single Say which is currently at number #2 in the latest Bay Radio Local Chart.

The two ladies have been quite busy in recent weeks and escflashmalta.com would like to wish them all fthe very best of luck with their endeavours in the music scene noting that they are two of the artists who seem to be very much taking our local efforts in the best possible direction. Working with some of the most recognizable people in music is surely helping but their sense of style and their talent goes a long way and ultimately represents them and the country well. Stay tuned for more features about local artsts in the upcoming days, weeks and months.
