SVT, the broadcaster responsible for the organisation of the 2013 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest and also Sweden's participation within the aforementioned event has already commenced proceedings with regards to the national selection procedure. Allehande.se, an online tabloid is reporting that the very first Melodifestivalen semi-final will be hosted within the city of Örnsköldsvik. An agreement was struck between the municipality and Live Nation Entertainment which is responsible for music venues all over the world. This will not be the first time that the city will host a semi-final noting that it has already had the honour on two occasions.

As a matter of fact, Örnsköldsvik played host to the beginning of Mans Zelmerlow's career as his entry Cara Mia swooped to victory within the semi-final during 2007 whilst increasing the credibility of Salem-Al-Fakir with his 2010 entry Keep On Walking which also won the semi-final. The Melodifestivalen journey is known to last six weeks, including four semi-finals, a second chance stage and the eventual final where the winning entry would then represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. Earlier this year, Sweden were represented at the Eurovision Song Contest by Robin Stjernberg and his entry You which finished in fourteenth place with just sixty-two (62) points.
