Since the introduction of the semi-final system, one of the countries that has seemingly not been performing well has been Cyprus noting that they have only managed to qualify to the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest on three occasions, in 2004 with Stronger Every Minute performed by Lisa Andreas, in 2010 with Life Looks Better in Spring sung by Jon Lilygreen and The Islanders and last year as Ivi Adamou took to the stage with an energetic performance of La La Love. CyBC, the Cypriot broadcaster has pushed their strong case with regards to ratings and qualification in two of the past three years to enter the 2013 competition and an announcement with regards to the chosen performer is set to be made at some point on Tuesday 15th January.

CyBC have been having meetings with record labels which will most likely finance the participation of the country in Malmö, Sweden and it seems that a shortlist of five possible representatives which include; Vera Boufi, Filippos Konstantinos, Giorgos Doukas, Despina Olympiou and Valanto Tryfonos. It seems that some of them also bring about some pedigree with either a national final or a Eurovision stage noting that Valanto has tried to represent Cyprus in 2006 and Greece in 2011 whilst Filippos has already represented his country the prestigious international competition as part of the group ONE in 2002. Cyprus have been able to reach the top ten at the Eurovision Song Contest since 2004 and will be hoping to succeed with their entry this year.
