The annual cultural calender in the Maltese Islands is always filled with spectacular events but one of the highlights during the year is surely none other than the one known as 'Rockestra' which is organized by the Malta Community Chest Fund. The show which has become somewhat synonomous with the local crowd is a night full of enchanting music with a 'rock' feel interpreted live by the National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Sigmund Mifsud.

The preparations for this concert are currently well under way and have been so for quite sometime actually noting that when the event finishes within the previous year, work starts on the next one as immediate as possible. Maestro Sigmund Mifsud is well known in making the musical arrangements of each and every chosen piece of music actually. The idea of mixing together 'rock' music along with classical instruments is somewhat extremely interesting and it shows the passion for music. This years' show will be even more spectacular than last years' and this is because, people will be able to see the projections done by Ross Ashton, the same individual who worked on Rockestra back in 2009.

This years' line-up is extremely interesting and despite the lack of female artists, it will surely be a pleasure to be in attendance with so much talent on one stage. In fact, males will be dominating the show as they have been within the full music industry. The acts which have been called to take part within the show this year include former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Mike Spiteri, Xirka Rock, Ivan Filletti, Pawlu Borg Bonaci, Errol Sammut of Airport Impressions, John Bundy, former Eurosong finalists; Gianni, Cliff Zammit, Vittorio Gauci and Dorothy Bezzina, her brother; Gianluca Bezzina, Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2010 runner-up; Gloriana Arpa Belli, Malta Music Award Best New Artist; Mikaela, this years' Eurovision Song Contest representative; Glen Vella and others such as Lello, Daniel Cauchi, Kenneth Calleja and Chris Grech. The tickets for this years' showcase can be obtained through the official website. The seated tickets for adults cost €15 whilst those of children cost €12. In the meantime, the standing tickets cost €10 and those of children just €2.

One of the most popular programmes that has been airing during the course of the summer season has been none other than 'Don't Stop Me Now', a reality television show which is hosted by none other the well known Eileen Montesin. The series is coming to an end with only three programmes remaining and therefore it will be quite interesting to see how things shape up in the latter stages of the music competition. Also note that Christine Haber will be treating the singers to an task outside of their comfort zone in an aim to express their identity.

This week as has been the case during the series, the participants will be fighting to gain a total of twenty points, ten of which will be given by the weekly judges on the performances which will circling around the theme of movie soundtracks. The judges include none other than former Eurovision Song Contest representative Moira Stafrace, media personality Catherine Mifsud and musical theater performer Ray Mangion . Also joiing the proceedings for yet another week will be Richard Edwards whose song 'Finally' finished second in this years' edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. He will be performing a duet with one of the participants of the show as he has done throughout these past weeks.

Make sure to tune in to Television Malta (TVM) watch the show tonight after the news at 20:00 CET in order to watch the programme.

When the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest regulations came out, I was already sure that the festival would be a guaranteed success and noting the audience that it has been garnering over the past couple of years, our thoughts were to continue increasing it's viewership, giving as much exposure to the acts as possible and that is why, we sought the festival organizer, Deo Grech to see what could be done for this local showcase. Together we came up with the idea of introducing each act and also get a set of people from within the music industry to discuss these songs and rank them according to their preference. The success of the feature 'An Expert Opinion' has been achieved in my opinion because the culminating amount of views on the reviews has been extremely high reaching 5931 Hits in total which would be well over 6000 Hits if one counts the introduction.

We have reached the verdict now and we are proud to announce that the results seem to be well in accordance to the public opinion we have been receiving noting that individual comments and suggestions were even passed on from the general public and that is what our aim was, to get the people talking, about the artists, the songwriters and the actual songs. At the end of the day, the general public is what makes or breaks a whole package. The results were too close for comfort at the help but it is quite nice that we have just one winner even though it is just by one point. Below you will see the placings along with the total amount of points. Please note that the ties within the scoreboard have been separated according to the highest amount of point received, if there was even a tie within this frame, our head expert, Niall Mooney distinguished the tie with his vote.

18th Place: Marlon Chircop - Galaxy (Marlon Chircop)

17th Place: Walter Anthony - Turn On The Lights (Philip Vella)

16th Place: Domenique - Love Trap (Clinton Paul)

15th Place: Marie Claire Attard Bason - Someday, One Day (Mark Scicluna / Billy J)

14th Place: Malcolm Pisani - Ale'O (minik / Billy J)

13th Place: Karen DeBattista - Memoirs (Mark Scicluna / Daniel Muscat)

12th Place: Francesca Borg - Heaven Awaits (Marco Debono / Rita Pace)

11th Place: Christian - Labyrinth (Philip Vella / Mark Amaira)

10th Place: Ina Robinich - Stay (Andrew Zahra / Rita Pace)

09th Place: Janice Mangion - Ain't My Kind of Love (Mark Scicluna)

08th Place: Kylie Coleiro - Day After Day (Andrew Zammit / Joe Julian Farrugia)

07th Place: Luisana Bartolo - Silver Rain (Philip Vella / Luisana Bartolo)

06th Place: Joanna Attard - Hysterical (Elton Zarb / Rita Pace)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

05th Place: minik ft. Siconix - Let's Party (Siconix)

04th Place: Joseph Refalo - Queen of My Heart (Miriam Christine / Gerard James Borg)

03rd Place: Izzy - Ladies Night (Elton Zarb / Muxu)

02nd Place: Petra - Forget My Name (Heathcliffe Balzan / Natasha Turner)

01st Place: Floren - Thank You (Elton Zarb / Rita Pace)

As one could note, the songs that ranked in the top five are quite different from each other because there is a mixture of r'n'b, pop, ballads and dance and therefore it shows that the varying degrees from which they were coming from ultimately worked but it was Floren and Petra who had the lead as soon as their votes came getting their respective positions without any ties. In third place, there was a tie which was divided as stated above by the highest number of marks given and then by our head judge and that is how the result was obtained. On behalf of the whole team at ESCflashmalta, we would like to wish all of the competitors the very best of luck in this years' competition being held on the 1st August at an exclusive venue will be revealed in due time actually. Keep following our web portal for the latest news about the Malta Summer Hit Song Contest being aired on ONE Television and hosted by Deo Grech and Natius Farrugia.

This period in time is known to be fun and cheerful especially with the carnival in tow over the past weekend and the next couple of hours. Nevertheless, the holidays have become non-existent for the late teenagers attending sixth form and higher secondary education. Evenings tend to be full of coursework but relaxation has to come into play as well and that is where one should sit on the sofa, turn on the television and tune into the musical drama 'D.R.E.A.M.S' which has registered the highest audiences for Television Malta (TVM) for Monday evenings surpassing all other programming. The episode will be airing at a specially designated slot around 21:45 CET this evening due to a special broadcaster over the current local political situation. Despite, the late time slot, this will surely be yet another cracking episode according to the preview.

One of the supporting characters in the series; Joe Vassallo (Martin Catania) has been phased by a number of issues in his life due to his drinking addiction but he has been trying to turn his life around for the sake of his wife, Doreen Vassallo (Mariella Chetcuti Delmar) and Jasmine Vassallo Grima (Rachael Tedesco Triccas). He tried to find a job but is rejected each and every time. The new characters in the series continue to grow in their roles actually noting that Jasmine has a newfound interest in the form of Jeremy, but will he come to terms with her lifestyle? She almost came to terms with it herself during a heartfelt conversation with Jade Vella Petroni (Rachel Genovese) in the bathroom where some truth has been shed that nothing can ever be completely right and that no one is indeed perfect. Another story-line which has continuously gained prominence is the one which involved Samatha Hearts (Samaryah Sammut) who was injured by the wife of Professor Clive Cortis (Dorian Micallef) who happens to be her father. Her birth-mother is very protective of her and therefore, she will not let him get to her and drop the case but past demons come to haunt her when a seeming ex-lover demands money. Finnigan (Evelyn Saliba de Rosa) gets her two proteges out of trouble during the supermarket where they had been caught stealing but ultimately, will it be their last offence?

This weeks' episode of 'D.R.E.A.M.S' should be equally interesting. Jasmine Vassallo Grima is encountering what seems to be her first conversation of truth when she speaks to Jeremy in this evenings' episode. He would like to know the real her following his heartful chat about his life. In the meantime, Jade Vella Petroni continues to be haunted by her mother who expects only the best behaviour as they seem to be awaiting guests during a high class meal at a fancy restaurant. This problem of the over-protective and seemingly innocent mother is one which haunts many people without any outside knowledge. The issue of Samantha, her mother, Clive Cortis and his wife continues to grow even deeper and the problems are being accentuated. Blackmail has become a thing of the present and this is somewhat ludicrous especially when the situation is as it is at the moment. It will be quite interesting to see where the story with Brandon (Jean Pierre Cassar) and Antoinette (Analise Psaila) will lead onto noting that she heard the conversation of Jade whilst in the bathroom for her love of Brandon without him really knowing and now, her break up might have instill some issues.

This television series is the original work of Evelyn Saliba La Rosa and Michael Vella Haber who in turn write the lyrics to all of the tracks performed as opposed to the music which is written by Ray Agius, the man who wrote the last two winners of the 'Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza' as well as the Maltese Eurovision entries in 1995 entitled 'Keep Me In Mind' and in 1997 bearing the name 'Let Me Fly'. A number of supporting members of the cast have stunning musical credentials including former Junior Eurovision Song Contest representatives; Nicole Azzopardi and Daniel Testa, former Malta Eurosong finalist and host; Ruth Sammut Casingena, former Sfida Contestant Rachel Genovese, performer Rachael Tedesco Triccas and the ever so stunning winner of 'ID'; Analise Psaila. The episode will be airing at a specially designated slot around 21:45 CET this evening due to a special broadcaster over the current local political situation.

The Maltese music scene has been blessed with a number of artists who are capable of reaching the heights of success with the right paths yet it is always important to remain humble and do your bit towards good causes. This will be the case for the ŻĦN Symphonik Choir whom as we mentioned last week organized a press event at the Shopping Complex within The Point shopping complex announcing a concert running by the name 'Let the Sun Shine' which is taking place on the 29th and 30th July, at 20:00 CET within St.Paul's Pro-Cathedral in the capital city of Valletta.

The concert which is being held in aid of the Equal Partners Foundation aims to bring about all of the work that carried out by the aforementioned foundations in harmony with the music of the ŻĦN Symphonik Choir so that they message would be put across in the best possible way. The concert will be featuring both sides of the Symphonik  Group meaning, singing and instrument playing and the mixture of genres between classical, gospel, pop and rock will surely be evident in order to attract all types of audiences and please note that some Maltese songs will also be performed.

At the present moment, the choir has around twenty members with an accompanying band who play in a number of concerts around the Maltese Islands. Amongst the people who are included within the showcase are former Malta Song for Europe finalist, Jean Claude Vancell; Lead singer of the band 'Salt', Janice DeBattista and Backing vocal, guitarist of the upcoming band 'Relikc', Luke Grech. All profits from this concert will be donated to the Equal Partners Foundation, a parent-run, non-profit foundation providing individualized support programmes to over 300 children and adults with disabilities and/or learning difficulties and their families. The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is surely one of the major local showcases in the music industry and it has, in the past couple of years has become somewhat one of the few opportunities to present the official language of the country which is that of Maltese. A host of well known performers submit their interest within the showcase by presenting their own material. With six weeks in tow since the commencement of the tele-voting, things are now heating up and with promotion of each track given through the summer programme 'Indifest' which is hosted by Charles and Elaine Saliba, things look to be heading into the right direction as we see the organization of the twentieth edition taking place. The final of the event is taking place on Monday 19th September 2011 and the hosts mentioned will also be the ones taking the audience through the evening. Each and every day, through NET Television and the KKIMalta channel of youtube, you can hear the clips of the competing entries and then make your choice and vote for your favourite.

The amount of votes in the 'Teenage Category' are coming in at an extremely high rate and the competition is really strong it seems amongst the people as the top four are managing to compete well with each other whilst the next two are also in the running it seems. These acts are all trying to make it to the final night and get the chance to perform on that elite stage on the Granaries in Floriana noting that the tele-voting is worth 50% of the result of the three finalists. The votes in this section are worth much more because of this regard and that is why we encourage you to keep on voting. Below you can see the current placings for this category but of course, we are still very much in the early stages of the competition.

Over the course of the past couple of months, one of the most important programmes on local television has surely been 'Don't Stop Me Now', a reality television programme in the vein of Pop Idol where a number of singers auditioned live and got shortlisted by a panel of four judges made up of Richard Edwards, Moira Stafrace, Ray Mangion and Catherine Mifsud. One can always remember that the show is it's a second season having commenced through the Favourite Channel just a year ago. This time round, it is being hosted by the national broadcaster, meaning the Public Broadcasting Services. The contestants of this years' edition include none other than; Ann Marie, Carl, Corinne, Derrick, Letizia, Raisa, Ramona, Shirley, Therese and Ylenia. All of the acts fight it out for sets of points given by the Jury through the power of song and also through the weekly tasks.

This week, the series reaches a half-way point and what a show has been lined up for the people to see. All of the participants in the programme will be performing live duets with established artists and this might also show a change of guard within the actual music industry noting one generation to the next. Hosted by Eileen Montesin, the acts will be judged on their ability to perform by former Eurovision Song Contest representative; Moira Stafrace, Classically Trained performer; Ray Mangion and Entertainment Figure; Catherine Mifsud. In the meantime, in another segment of the show, Christine Haber will be taking the acts on yet another extra-curricular task where they will be vying to use their skills outside of performing with the aim of them releasing their inner characters so that the people at home can get to watch them better. One final deed that will take place is of course the weekly duet that this years' Malta Eurovision Song Contest runner-up will be doing with one of the participants. So this week, tune in to 'Don't Stop Me Now' on Television Malta hosted by Eileen Montesin.

The annual Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza is one of the most anticipated music festivals in Malta and this is due to the fact that it is one of the last remaining showcases in which the songs are actually performed within the national language of the country which is Maltese. The history of the showcase has proven to be quite successful with a number of acts establishing themselves on local grounds before going onto success in uncharted foreign waters. This year, the festival will be celebrating it's twentieth edition and therefore the organizers are making sure that the night will be one of the best ever put up in order to compliment the occasion. Over the past couple of weeks, the viewers have been able to hear the songs of the participating entries and also vote for them through a set of tele-voting numbers which appear on screen. Each and every day, through NET Television and the KKIMalta channel of youtube, you can hear the clips of the competing entries and then make your choice and vote for your favourite.

Who will be following in their footsteps, we are yet to see but the competition is heating up actually and with a fifty (50%) stake in outcome of who will make the night, we are keeping tabs. Below you can see the current placings for this category but of course, we are still very much in the early stages of the competition.

Over the past couple of years, one of the best representatives of the Maltese Islands has surely been none other than the popular tenor Joseph Calleja who has often been hailed by the foreign press as the next Luciano Pavarotti following some stunning performances over time in a number of venues around the world. It seems that this remarkable artist is peaking at the present time when it comes to fame noting that he has cracked the British Charts with his latest album which resoundingly bears the name 'The Maltese Tenor' and is being distributed through recording label, Decca which is the classical subsidiary of Sony Music, one of the flagship music labels in the world.

The local tenor continues to ride on his way of success maintaining a perfect record that he has been building over time actually. Performing in the middle eastern regions of Europe just a couple of days ago proved to be a great experience according to Joseph himself as stated through social networking website, Facebook where he said "a wonderful experience in Israel despite a very heavy schedule preceding it. It was lovely to sing opposite Renee and Zubin again. Can't Wait for next time! Israel is an astonishingly beautiful country. Truly magical with great people. Jerusalem and Massada were the obvious two highlights and I got to float in the dead sea! Bliss!". This was one of the many appearances of Joseph Calleja this year noting that he is set to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in the next couple of months having just taken part within his annual summer concert on the Granaries in Floriana where he performed with Italian Legend, Lucio Dalla and also Zulu Hayley Westenra. Charting in the United Kingdom is a huge achievement actually and managing #65 in the official charts and then #2 in the Classical Album charts.
