In 2004, the European Broadcasting Union introduced the semi-final system within the Eurovision Song Contest and one of the countries to have successful managed to still make the final round on each respective occasion has been Greece. The Hellenic nation has managed to finish in the top ten for eight successive years, before finishing in seventeenth place last year with the track Aphrodisiac performed by Eleftheria Eleftheriou. ERT has been facing serious financial issues in recent months and will be taking part following their successful venture with MAD TV.The selection entitled Eurosong 2013: A MAD Show will be broadcasted online through the official website of the Eurovision Song Contest, the ERT Online Channel as well as the YouTube Channel of MAD TV.

This evenings' national final is set to take place within the Gazi Music Hall in Athens, the capital city of Greece and host of the 2006 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest whilst the collaborative broadcasters have selected Despina Vandi and Giorgos Kapoutzidis as hosts. The artistic direction of the show has been entrusted to Fokas Evangelinos, and he has selected several artists to be present this evening as guest stars including former Eurovision Song Contest winners; Dima Bilan, Ruslana, Alexander Rybak, Marija Serifovic, Vicky Leandros, and Elena Paparizou as well as a number of artists, some of which were national final participants including; Demy, Eleftheria Eleftheriou, Ivi Adamou, Kostak Martakis and Melisses. One of the most anticipated performances of the evening will surely be that of Despina Olympiou who was selected as the Cypriot representative a couple of days back with the track An Me Thimase which she will perform this evening.

The Show (Part 1)

Well, this years' national final is looking to be quite grand considering that MAD TV are currently hosting a red carpet show with the guest artists of the evening, performers who have either already done their country proud in the Eurovision Song Contest or others who have yet to show interest to represent Greece in the renowned competition. Kostas Martakis seems to be all grown up from the 2008 competition whilst other acts such as Eleni Fourreri look all glamourous as they anticipate the evening. The former winners of the Eurovision Song Contest are currently being introduced with the female host for the evening somewhat accompanying them all. Her male counterpart has just joined on and it looks like they are hoping to host the international spectacle with such ensembles. The professional panel of judges is currently being introduced and it includes Vicky Leandros who won the competition on behalf of Luxembourg.

Ruslana is the first former Eurovision Song Contest to take to the stage and as expected, she is performing the track Wild Dances in a duet with a Grreek artist and honestly, it's like watching an escalating fighting. Next up is Marija Serifovic with Molitva and she will be joined on stage by the popular Greek group, Melisses who have tried to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest in the past. This should be an intriguing concept and indeed, the lead singer of Melisses is giving this a rock touch. Marija comes on stage wearing black attire matched with her sunglasses. Stunning performance. The trend of former winners for this evening continue as Alexander Rybak's Fairytale is being performed by Kostas Martakis who tried to represent Greece in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. He comes onto the stage and playing the violin prior to singing. They are enjoying themselves on stage and end up both dancing.

One of the biggest stars in the Greek music industry takes to the stage for the fourth performance of former Eurovision Song Contest winners because she's joining Dima Bilan and indeed, she is doing a great job of the song Believe and the audience seem to appreciate it. He is wearing a black suit and honestly, he does look better than he did in 2008 but nevertheless, this is a good performance. It has been a predominantly long break followed by a set of green room interviews. Helena Paparizou, the only winner on behalf of Greece is back to the stage and she looks amazing in that dress which has different shades of blue but what is it with her appearance? Weird. Anyways. this was the track that beat Malta into second place and despite the remix, still sounds great. It's time for the actual selection process to begin with Panik and Platinium records presenting two entries each this evening.

Running Order

The One Last Kiss - Thomai Apergi

It seems that Thomai thinks she is a star considering that she has a million of them on her long floorlength black dress. She is joined on stage by a guitarist, a trumpet player, a saxophone player and a cellist but personally I would have opted for a bit of choreography. The vocals are relatively good considering that people have been downplaying her chances. This is my favourite this evening and it seems that she might do better than expected because that performance just came across pretty well. This pop/swing jazz tune would have done really well in Malta noting that both Amber and Davinia would have done the track proud with their sultry vocals.

Angel - Alex Leon ft. Giorgina

The second performance of the evening features a Chiara, Hera Bjork look-a-like doing the main vocals for what seems to be an ethnic inspired dance track. The staging is quite impressive with four male dancers. The vocals are just spot on this evening from Giorgina and for the very first time since it was released, I must say that I very much believe she might be able to finish on top this evening. Alex Leon is playing the DJ this evening and his role is somewhat put to the backside of the stage. Towards the end of the performance, Giorgina is really forcing her vocals and she might suffer with the jury for that.

Alcohol Is Free - Koza Mostra & Agathonas Iakovidis

Koza Mostra were the precompetition favourites really and one could instantly understand why considering that this is an extremely catchy track. The lyrics might be silly and somewhat stupid but nevertheless, the melody is infectious. Joining their performance is a folk performer and it seems that several people are showing interest. The vocals are in tune and their craziness is definitely being displayed through what seem to be a special type of kilts. This is really coming across well on screen and they could triumph in such a mediocre selection which despite being hyped up lacks in quality. I am not sure but Greece might not do as well as some people expect.

Hilies Kai Mia Nychtes - Aggeliki Iliadi

The final performer of the evening is wearing a long white dress with slits literally up to her waist and she is joined on stage by four male dancers who are all clothed this time round. This is the most ethnic track presented and the vocals have to be good for it to be presented in the best possible manner and despite, not understanding a word, it seems that she is conducting herself well. The song in itself is boring and repetitive and I just cannot see it succeeding during the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. I wouldn't know which track to select really but the ones which I somewhat liked were songs one and three.

The Show (Part 2)

Following the four performances, the hosts are back on stage and they open the tele-voting following a recap to remind the public which tracks are competing to represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest. It is quite a daunting selection and with the wrong song choice, Greece might really suffer in the second semi-final where it will be competing alongside Malta's Gianluca Bezzina with the track Tomorrow. Next up, the Greek and Cypriot representatives from 2012; Eleftheria Eleftheriou and Ivi Adamou who perform their tracks Aphrodisiac and La La Love. Cyprus are definitely sending quality and have in my opinion, a better track than any of the ones which Greece will send. She looks like Celine Dion and there is a bit of tonality in the vocals which resemble that. This is a beautiful ballad although as many have stated, it might be forgotten during the Eurovision Song Contest.

Interviews with the four competing acts have just been held and another recap is shown. The hosts are back on stage and now, Despina is wearing a beautiful yellow dress whilst her male counterpart is wearing a black and blue suit. Dima Bilan, Ruslana, Alexander Rybak and Marija Serifovic are back on stage and they seem to be speaking to each artist individually. Dima Bilan has learnt Greek and compliments the hostess. It seems that the viewers are being treated to a top ten of favourite performances across the years. Following another round of adverts and chats with the participants backstage, Vicky Leandros takes to the stage and she performs in her native Greek, clearly playback. Helena Paparizou and Vicky Leandros are currently being interviewed live on stage. In an unexpected announcement, Koza Mostra & Agathonas Iakovidis are crowned winners of Eurosong 2013 - A MAD Show.
