In 2014, a local music competition known as the Summer Hit Song Contest was revived, with the aim being to submit entries with a particular vibe, one which radio stations across the country would not have any issue in promoting through airplay. A professional panel of judges assessed the quality of each respective submission before reaching a desired result, one which gave success to the song "Back To..", written by Mark Scicluna and Emil Calleja Bayliss, with vocals provided by Domenique. It has been around 4 months since then, and the organising committee, in conjunction with F Living is proud to announce the 6th edition of the Summer Hit Song Contest, with the rules and regulations made public. There are no major amendments, apart from the fact that songwriters, irrespective of nationality are now permitted to submit entries. L-Għanja tal-Poplu, a local music competition, known to breathe life into the music industry, officially takes on a new dimension as of today, as 16 entries out of the original 105 submissions, will be part of the 39th edition of the competition. It has been a rigorous selection process, involving 5 professional jury members, whose first task was to shortlist the best 35, out of which they had to bring down by half, once more. As a music competition, L-Għanja tal-Poplu prides itself with presenting the song-titles, composers and authors first, prior to making an announcement with the respective performer of the song. This is due to the fact that the singer could be altered from the demo version to the final version, as stipulated by the rules and regulations issued by the organising committee. The organising committee of L-Għanja tal-Poplu issued a Press Release accounting for the first details of the 39th edition, having successfully received a total of 105 submissions, a large number, especially taking into consideration the 71 and 34 entries which were submit for the 37th and 38th edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu, which took place in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Due to the high interest, it was unanimously decided that the eliminatory phase should be split into two, ensuring that the members of the jury have the opportunity to pick the most suitable songs. "No Surrender", an entry in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2011, and also title track of album number #6 for male singer/songwriter, Fabrizio Faniello might be taken more to heart, rather than rekindling his career in music, after going public with a drug addiction problem, from which he is still recovering. During a recent television interview with Peppi Azzopardi during "Xarabank" on Television Malta, the male vocalist revealed that the main aim behind the chat was for people to acknowledge their problem and seek support. Michelle Mifsud, a female singer/songwriter who has been on a roller-coaster ride for the past 12 months, having accompanied the group Firelight at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Coming Home", written by Richard Edwards Micallef, making it through to the final stage of the competition, and eventually going onto release an album, one entitled "Talk Dirty". She will be sharing the female spotlight with a relatively young performer, isabelleluca, who has been studying in the United Kingdom, hoping to create music with an international sound. ONE Radio 92.7 and ONE Television merge into a professional broadcasting house, whose output is of extremely high quality. One such programme delivered through this system is "Clint on ONE" hosted by Clint Bajada, which aims to brings musicianship back into the term artist, promoting the singer in a setup where being comfortable is a necessity. Following a much anticipated return, this week, the programme will be welcoming, The Crowns. Paul Ellul, a renowned local lyricist, has compiled all song lyrics in written between 1991 and 2013 along with some other poems in a new book, "Fejn Staħbejtli". The chosen title is a reflection of the most well known song ever written by the aforementioned Ellul, with singer/songwriter Ira Losco being the recipient winner of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza back in 2001. It will be officially launched on the 17th January 2015, at Sir Temi Żammit Hall in the University of Malta with live performances by Gillian Attard, Eleanor Cassar, Glen Vella, Nadine Axisa, Cherise Attard, Roseann Cordina, Mark Tonna, Ivan Spiteri Lucas, Roberta Cassar, La Voix Academy Choir and Debbie Scerri. On the 23rd and 24th January, Nadine Axisa and Vinny Vella will be coming together in two concerts, “Songs”, which will be hosted in The Music Room at the St James Cavalier. In the past 12 months, both have released studio albums, with Nadine Axisa putting out “Velvet”, and Vinny Vella releasing “Another Way”. The renowned duo, extremely good friends, will also be entertaining the audience with a series of covers, some of which are popular. Nadine, a veteran of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, had performed with Vinny in his critically acclaimed project “The Beatles Works” and “A Groovy Kind of Pop”.
