On Sunday 14th June, it was revealed by the producers of the Summer Hit Song Contest (#summerhit2015) that four entries had to be withdrawn from the competition due to other commitments during the recording dates. As a result, it was announced that another four (4) entries would be brought into the frame, keeping in mind the original result of the jury. On behalf of the editorial team at escflashmalta.com, we would like to wish Cherylis ("Unbreakable") Marilena Gauci ("Hurricane"), Simaria Galea ("Freedom"), and Sarah Crystal ("If I Only Knew") the very best of luck, whilst welcoming first time finalists Dorcas ("Our Last Goodbye") Jurgen Xerri ("Perfect"), Ryan Axisa ("C'est Moi") and returning finalist Dayle Camilleri ("Why?"). This year, a record number of 89 submissions were sent in for the Summer Hit Song Contest, with a professional panel of judges first whittling them down to 30, before eventually making the final…
As has become customary, Media.Link Communications held a press conference to launch the 24th edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, spearheaded by Charles Stroud as the new Chairman, whilst being flanked by Sandra Grech, Clarissa Ellul and Noel D'Amato. A full copy of the regulations as well as the applications may be obtained through MaltaRightNow, for both KKI 2015 and for KKI Jr 2015. Another new regulation is that every artist is limited to the submission of only 6 prospective entries, noting that he may only perform 1 song during the final night. Due to the negative impact brought about by the rules and regulations presented for the 24th edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, with worthy songs such as “Ma Tintefix” sung by Neville Refalo, “Kastelli Fl-Arja” sung by Gloriana Arpa Belli and “Int” sung by Laura Bruno left out of the final selection of 20 finalists, the organising…
After the launch of her debut album original songs in Maltese entitled ‘Hawn Jien’, singer/songwriter Corazón followed up its success with a concert at the Casino Maltese last January. The location offered the ideal setting for this collection of songs which treat diverse social themes and profound lyrics. Corazón has never shyed away from singing about what is usually left unsaid, giving a voice to the prostitute (in Illejla B’Xejn), to the unborn child (in Hawn Jien) and even to the woman scorned (in Marì) amongst others. The concert included popular songs such as Tal-Aħħar and Fid-Dar tan-Nanna and the launch of two brand new songs which were included in the second edition of the album. All songs were performed live by a group of talented musicians; Walter Vella on saxophone, Carlo Bugeja on keyboards, Simon Sammut on the double-bass, Samuel Attard on the drums, Jimmy Bartolo on guitars and…
'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style. Joseph Refalo, a male vocalist, student of Pamela Bezzina at Vocal Booth Studios, who is quickly becoming an established performer in his own right, having made it through to the final phase of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, and the Summer Hit Song Contest, not too mention having had the opportunity to be on stage of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, once as part of the interval act along with the cast of the drama series 'D.R.E.A.M.S' which aired on Television Malta, and once as a backing vocalist to Franklin Calleja during "Still Here", an original song…
Davinia, a twenty-two year old female singer/songwriter, recently relocated to the United States of America in order to pursue a music career in a foreign country, hoping to break through on another level, has been humming melodies, and scribbling down lyrics with songwriter Nick Lopez. One of the advanced projects which they had been working on at length was the original song “Round & Round” which is being presented as Davinia’s brand new single, and the first in 2015. This serves as a follow-up to “Ouch!”, produced by Carlo Gerada and co-penned with Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca and “Brand New Day”, composed by Elton Zarb and penned by Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca’. In tune with a warm expectant summer, “Round & Round” is a fine mixture of pop, rhythm & blues, funk as well as soul, four genres which Davinia has previously had the opportunity to perform separately but not as a…
With temperatures already soaring at 29 Degrees Celsius, it is fair to say that Malta is looking towards an excruciatingly warm summer. Nevertheless, the public will hope to find solace in the blissful tunes that will emerge out of the local music industry, two (2) of which were made public earlier this week, "Keep Me In Love" by The New Victorians and "2 Hot 2 Handle" by Johnny Vincent & Rikki Lee. "Keep Me In Love", the second single by The New Victorians, taken from their upcoming debut album set to be released later on this month, is a genre of music which has not been really experimented upon in Malta, yet closely resembles the sound emitted by Lauren Aquilina, the singer/songwriter with Maltese descent who is based in the United Kingdom, and is currently signed to Island Records. In support of this release, an accompanying music video has been…

Lynn Chircop, a successful female vocalist and musician, who had the immense opportunity to represent Malta at the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest with “To Dream Again”, was recently one of the special guests on “The Celebrity Night”, a Saturday night chat show hosted by Deo Grech on F Living. In a short interview, she revealed that she had thought twice about going to the international music competition, due to many reasons I had wished I could postpone my opportunity to represent Malta after winning but considering the odds the experience turned out to be fruitful for my career and a person with other dreams to follow. Asked by Deo Grech about the possibility of a return to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, Lynn stated that she has written a song for every edition of the event since then, meaning that she has written no less than 12 possible entries, but…
