Through their online news portal MaltaRightNow, Media.Link Communications issued the names of the finalist entries, and their respective performers for the 2015 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. Following an unspecified number of submissions, as received on the 17th July 2015, a professional panel of judges whittled down the entries, choosing those which reflected the saying 'music to their ears' before coming up with 40 songs, all of which were re-interpreted with LIVE vocals by their respective artists. At the end of this process, the 20 finalists were selected.

In the lists below, there are two (3) singers with more than one (1) entry, and the song which has an asterisk (*) next to their name will either have to be given to another performer, or else be withdrawn from the competition, and thus replaced by the 21st entry in the original list of results. At this stage of the competition, we urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com in order to find out what will happen with the final list of participants for the 2015 Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza.

'The Celebrity Night' is a weekly television programme which has become somewhat synonymous with Saturday evening, is broadcast on F Living Channel. The series which officially kicked off at the beginning of October revolves around the one-to-one interviews, which speak of class, decadence and wit, and have become synonymous with Deo Grech's presenting style.

Ludwig Galea, a male singer/songwriter, who gained notoriety for winning the 2004 edition of the Malta Song for Europe with "On Again .. Off Again" in a duet with Julie Zahra. Prior to that, they he had also competed both with the aforementioned female vocalist and as a soloist in L-Għanja tal-Poplu, the International Festival of Maltese Song, the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza as well as another edition of the national selection which sought to select Malta's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Since then, Ludwig became one of the nations' most sought performers, performing in concerts both nationally and internationally, and also becoming a resident singer on several shows such as "Sas-Sitta" and "Sibt Familja", and most recently "Ħadd Għalik". At the moment, he is also a vocal coach, responsible for upcoming talent such as Deborah C, Raquel Galdes, and Marie Claire Attard Bason.

The second guest of the evening is, Fiona Cauchi, a female singer/songwriter who has done her bit on the festival circuit, earning the veteran accolade for being a six-time participant in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, her most recent endeavour finishing in 3rd place, having performed "Before You Walk Away" with the group Q back in 2009. She also made it through to the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, and the International Festival of Maltese Song on several occasions.

The third and final guest who will be accompanying Deo Grech this evening is Michela Dalli, a singer, and an actress with recurring roles in leading television dramas "Ħbieb u Għedewwa" and "D.R.E.A.M.S". Apart from reaching the final stages of the Talent Żagħżugħ at the 2011 Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, Michela made the transition to the senior stage late last year with the song "Ġrajjiet" written by Dominic Cini and Stephen Baldacchino. Her most recent endeavour though was L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2015 with the song "Charlie' L-Artist" written by Andrew Zahra and Rita Pace.

GħTP 2015: Interview with Michela Dalli

On the 21st March 2015, L-Għanja tal-Poplu, a local music competition known to breathe life into the music industry, will be turning thirty-nine. Following the huge success of "Jien Ma Naħdimx", composed by Mark Scicluna to the lyrics of Rita Pace, with vocals provided by Karen DeBattista, a surge of interest was reported, as a record number of 105 submissions were received.

escflashmalta.com in partnership with the organising committee has been given the opportunity to have a chat with the sixteen competing acts, whilst also presenting an exclusive 30 second snippet of each respective entry in contention. Act number eight is Michela Dalli, and her entry is entitled "Charlie' L-Artist", penned by Rita Pace, to the music of Andrew Zahra.

In the public eye, you have been seen as an artist who does not shy away from a challenge, and as a result juggle the art of singing with acting. It is no mean feat, but thinking out loud, which do you view as your strong suit, and would you pick one over the other?

Both give me great satisfaction and I can never ever choose between the two. Singing gives me the joy of expressing myself and acting gives me the pleasure of playing different roles. I will surely treasure past experiences, I have met so many talented people and my love for music and acting has grown thanks to these unforgettable opportunities. I would like to thank those who made and are still making my dreams come true.

“Charlie l-Artist”, composed by Andrew Zahra, with lyrics by Rita Attard is the song that you will be presenting in this years’ edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu. Would you care to explain the meaning behind the lyrics and the genre that the song encompasses?

The lyrics are so meaningful and relate to France’s worst terrorist attack; The sad and tragic news of artist Charlie Hebdo and colleagues that was targetted by the French satircal weekly magazine. This sad news has definitely shocked the world. The song also focuses on how Satire effects others feelings, for some satire is like medicine, it either inspires, releases tension  and makes a person feel better or on the other hand it can really offend a person.

In 2015, L-Għanja tal-Poplu is turning thirty-nine (39), and during the years, it has earned a positive reputation, by virtue of breathing life into the music industry. It is no secret that the lyrics of each entry could cause controversy amongst the public. What is your view with regards to this statement, and do you believe that your entry challenges public perception?

I believe that it is actually very important that lyrics in such a festival have to be controversial, different oppinions make songs even more interesting . My entry 'Charlie l-Artists' definitely causes controversy for the fact that many believe that there should be total freedom of expression in arts especially in a democratic country, others believe that there should be moderation and arts should not hurt others feelings, on the other hand there are those who take satire so seriously that have the courage to destroy other people's life!  But why would anybody actually kill somebody over mockery?

Would you like to say anything to our readers at escflashmalta.com?

I would like to thank all those who support local music and local talent. I urge all of you reading this to come and watch this festival, 'l-Ghanja tal-poplu' is surely one of the most prestigious festivals in Malta. I am sure all of the contestants are working hard.
