Malta: Revealing the On Stage Team for #WoW

At the moment Ira Losco is extensively touring Europe attending one preview party to another in a bid to promote "Walk on Water", the original song which she co-wrote with Tim Larsson, Lisa Desmond, Molly Pettersson-Hammar and Tobias Lundgren, which she will present on behalf of Malta during the 1st semi-final on the 10th May 2016.

Although surprise is a key-element in the presentation, certain details about the on-stage team have already been made public with Skorpion, a renowned male dancer who has accompanied Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift and Madonna chosen to choreograph and Anna Azzopardi and Pamela Bezzina picked as backing vocalists.

This will not be the first time that either of the two ladies have gone to the Eurovision Song Contest as a backing vocalist, noting that Anna had previously accompanied Lynn Chircop during "To Dream Again" back in 2003, and Pamela had been on stage with Thea Garrett and "My Dream" in 2010 as well as Glen Vella and "One Life" in 2011.

It is well worth pointing out that Pamela was also the vocal coach for Firelight in 2014, and Amber in 2015. She will be taking on the dual role at this years' international music competition. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest which is taking place in Stockholm, Sweden.

SHSC 2014: Triumphant Domenique in First Victory

The 5th edition of the Summer Hit Song Contest, hosted by Deo Grech & Natius Farrugia, at The Dome Theatre within the Seabank Hotel, was truly a memorable night, a triumphant journey. 18 acts, carefully chosen by a select panel of professional judges, took to the main stage to perform their entry, having received ample promotion throughout the summer season, courtesy of F Living, Music News, escflashmalta.com and RTK Radio.

Lyndsay Pace, Mireille Bonello, Marisa D'Amato, Charlene Azzopardi, Daniel Falzon Mallia, George Cremona and Heathcliffe Balzan were solely responsible for the result last night, picking Domenique and her entry "Back To...", composed by Mark Scicluna to the lyrics of Emil Calleja Bayliss in first place. Nevertheless, with around 10 points separating the top three, one has to commend the first runner-up, "My Hero" composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Keith Zammit with vocals provided by Anna Azzopardi as well as the second runner-up, "Pretend" composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Doris Chetcuti.

On the other hand, "Overboard", the only duet competing in this year's edition of the Summer Hit Song Contest, featuring Audrey Marie & Rita Pace were chosen as winners of the tele-voting and as a result, also granted the opportunity to compete in next year's edition fo the Summer Hit Song Contest, a revelation made by Deo Grech & Karl Bonaci during the course of the evening. Remember, the competition will be broadcast on F Living on Saturday 27th September at 20:30 CET. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook & Twitter as we bring you the latest news from the local music scene.

In recent years, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has been the only local platform for songwriters and vocalists to produce original songs in English, but that has officially changed with the re-introduction of the Summer Hit Song Contest which returns to F Living as from the 14th July 2014. A total of 18 entries got through to the final stage of the competition with no less than 8 of them having already made it to the top of the music scene by virtue of reaching the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on at least one previous occasion.

We're going to chat to ALL the artists in contention so that you, our readers will have the opportunity to get to know them better. The sixth artist in our series of interviews is Anna Azzopardi, and the song which she is presenting bears the name "My Hero" composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Keith Zammit.

In Malta, the Eurovision Song Contest is a major outlet for the music industry, but then again, with such a mindset, what role does the return of the Summer Hit Song Contest have in your opinion and would you like it to be part of the music calendar?

The Summer Hit Song is a good T.V exposed Festival, which gives a very good exposure to local talent, and singers. It definitely should be part of the yearly music calendar.

Anna, without a shadow of doubt, you are one of the most experienced artists in the competition, having twice made it through to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. What was the reason behind the submission in the Summer Hit Song Contest?

I took part as a guest artist with 2 singers a couple of years ago, and it really seemed fun. So I said why shouldn't I give it a try. Music is always fun, and I also like meeting my friends singers, and also making friends with new ones.

Would you kindly introduce your entry to our readers and also identify the meaning behind the lyrics?

My entry for the Summer Hit Song Contest 2014 is 'My hero' composed by Renato Briffa, and written by Keith Zammit. The meaning behind the lyrics are ones of love, a girl telling her boyfriend that their love is forever, that no one will ever break it, and that he's her hero.

One of the key elements which have transpired upon the return of the Summer Hit Song Contest is the promotion of each artist and entry. How has f living re-defined the competition and what has been the general public reaction?

F-Living is giving a very good boost to the singers, and the whole competition, and the general's public reaction is a very positive one I must say.

Would you like to say anything to our readers at escflashmalta.com?

I would like to thank all the readers of escflashmalta for their constant support to the local music industry, and local artists. It really means a lot to us.

With a line-up that includes no less than 8 vocalists who have made it through to the biggest stage of the local music industry; the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, it is fair to say that this is one of the most competent music competitions in the local music industry. The Summer Hit Song Contest returns to the scene following an absence of two years, with the last edition being won by Minik featuring Siconix. Malta: Animae Gospel Choir Travel to Italy

Projects come into existence thanks to ideas which flow from one individual to another an in fact, the Gospel Choir which has today become known as Animae was originally the fruit of thought of Glen Vella, Pamela and Leontine who have somewhat gained fame in their own right through competing in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the male counterpart eventually finishing as the winner back in 2011 and thus representing Malta on an international scale. Nevertheless, the focus here is on the choir which is currently abroad in Assisi, Italy for the first time in order to participate in a music workshop. Gospel is the genre which is being covered during this particular event which brings about together several artists from Italy, who aim to learn from a set of tutors from the United States of America including Pastora Ronald Ixacc Hubbard, Pastor Keith Moncrief, The Fabolous Five, Rodney Hubbard and Dereque Withours. It is an honour to see our Maltese counterparts present as they continue to grow musically.

Music is important in spirituality and hence forth why Animae have taken this stance to learn more about what they could do not only within the area of music in which they have excelled throughout the past couple of years but even throughout other specific areas of religiosity. The workshop will include a number of performances, original works which will most likely only be exhibited at the Gospel Connection workshop. This is the tenth year of this project, and therefore, a prestigious goal was put in pace and reached, with top level in quality and artistic excelled at the proposal of the committee behind the workshop. Gospel Connection has been organized with leading artists in recent years including Richard Smallwood, Bob Singleton, Trini Massie and Kellie Turner. The successful workshops have been highly critically acclaimed, so much so that it has become renowned all of Europe for sheer dedication and success. Our very own Gospel Choir, Animae is currently preparing to host another show during Christmas time where festive tracks will obviously be taking precedence over others. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for all of the latest news as soon as it becomes available.
