The preparations for the 2012 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza have already begun and throughout the morning and early afternoon, a panel of five judges made up of musician Matthew Spiteri, singer/songwriter Eliza Borg Rizzo, singer and former competition winner Mike Spiteri, musician Yasmin Kuyzimakis and last but not least, the last president of UKAM Horace J Anastasi listened to ninety (90) songs, out of which they had to select a total of forty-nine (49) noting that the final place is reserved for a song to be presented in the final by Simone Gauci, the winner of Passport 2 Indifest, a singing competition organized by Spiteri Lucas Entertainment on Sas-Sitta throughout the winter months.

The list of the people who made it through to the second phase of the competition which can be noted below includes quite a number of fomidable names with past history in the local music scene including artists who have made it to the finals of a number of national events as one can notice. The list below is in alphabetical order as per the song title. It is important to note that the songs of the Talent Żagħżugħ all made it through to the live phase immediately due to the fact that sixteen (16) entries were submitted.
