With a population of just over 33,000 – San Marino has always had a hard time to find an act to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest. All the songs which they took part with have been produced internationally – and from eight participations in the contest, only three performers from the tiny microstate have taken to the Eurovision stage as lead performers. With this in mind, it is no surprise that San Marino RTV, in collaboration with UK company “Raff Raff Ltd.” have launched their search to find the so called “Internet candidate” for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest – set to be held next May in Lisbon, Portugal.

The aptly named contest “1 in 360” (1in360.com) invited performers from all corners of the world to take part in the Sammarinese selection process. To be in contention, interested persons were invited between October and November to be in contention for the process. A reported 1000 entries were received from approximately 80 countries – nineteen of those entries came from Maltese singers.

From the entries received, ten of them will make it to the live shows of the competition - set to take place between January and February next year. One of the final ten spots will be reserved for a Sammarinese artist, another will be selected from the vote of OGAE clubs across Europe, whilst the third will be given to the performer with the most “hearts” on the 1in360 online platform. The remaining seven spots will be chosen by the 1in360 organising team, in consultation with San Marino RTV.

Right now at the time of writing, the voting window is open to determine the candidate with the most votes on the 1in360 website – who will gain a spot in the final ten for the San Marino selection. Voting in this stage is open until midnight on December 10th. Below we introduce the Maltese candidates for the selection – to vote for them, click on their names and click the love heart in the top left corner of the screen.

The final line-up for the San Marino Eurovision selection is expected to be determined by the end of the year. Whether or not a Maltese performer will be part of the lineup remains to be seen – but if this did happen, it would not be the first time that a Maltese artist was part of the Eurovision selection in another country; back in 2007, sisters Natasha and Charlene made it to the Bulgarian selection with the song “Open Your Eyes”. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.

Apart from the established names, it seems that the line-ups of established groups such as Trilogy and Monroe have both been altered for the upcoming edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with Ludwig Galea replacing Daniel Debono in the former, and Nadia Vella becoming a new member of the latter, joining former Malta Eurovision Song Contest finalist; Kelly Schembri.

Other names which have caught our eye in the list are surely those of; Karen DeBattista, winner of this year’s edition of L-Għanja tal-Poplu; Kurt Cassar, winner of the Best New Talent at this year’s edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza; Annabelle Vella, backing vocalist to Malta’s entry at the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2008 and a group of nuns, who have most likely been inspired by the recent phenomenon on The Voice of Italy.

Everyone is somewhat gasping about the non-inclusion of Ira Losco in the first shortlist with the general feeling around the industry being that the Public Broadcasting Services may go ahead and offer a wildcard as is stated in the rules and regulations. This will be made public in a week’s time as Peppi Azzopardi and his dedicated team at WE Media reveal the chosen acts. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the 2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

Indifest, hosted by Mark Azzopardi and Christine Haber on NET Television returns for a fourth episode this evening following the initial success of the past three weeks in which a total of nine entries from this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza have been presented. Viewers have the opportunity to select their favourite tracks from both the Established and Teenage Category whilst watching the programme or during the rest of the day as clips could be seen either on television or online. Media.Link Communications and escflashmalta.com are working together in several areas in order to promote the competition in the best possible way noting that it remains as the leading showcase for the Maltese language through the medium of song. The programme starts at 20:30 CET.

The Established Category of this years' edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza has been noted to feature a mixture of young and newfound talent which definitely represents the future of the local music scene. In this evenings' programme, first up is Danica Muscat with the track L-Ewlieni composed by Philip Vella to the lyrics of Emil Calleja Bayliss. Experience is key with the young female performer having been at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on two occasions. Joining her from the same category are Mauro and Kim with the song Gloria written by Rita Pace. It is important to denote that the male vocalist in this duet had also been a finalist at the Malta Song for Europe back in 2007, winning the ticket from a talent show which discovered new artists.

Kimberly and Lyann are a female duet competing in the teenage talent portion of the competition and will therefore have to perform their entry live for the very first time. The song entitled Kliem Maġija is composed by Minik to the lyrics of Lyann. As has been the case in the first couple of episodes, there will be two special guests, both of which are vocalists; the first one being Annabelle Debono, a former winner of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza and the other being Lyndsay, a judge during the live phase of the competition as well as a chart topping artist. Annalise Ellul who was a guest during the first programme will oversee her dancers as they occupy the role of resident guests. Remember Indifest returns to NET Television, this evening at 20:30 CET. 89.7 Bay have been known to create a number of successful artists throughout the years through airplay and opportunity to perform at some of their most esteemed events and one endorsement which they have given in recent times is that of Lyndsay who has been gradually building her solo career from scratch with a variety of sounds which all point to that one individual. It has been well noted that she has performed in ample television shows as well including Pjazza, Saturday Night and most recently, Ħadd Għalik on the national broadcaster; Television Malta. System Overload, Zip It Up, Love Sick and Going Under are four tracks which bear a touch of elegance, some sultry vocals and a lot of energy, ultimately showcasing the talent that Lyndsay bears which seems to have been noticed by producers of Britain's Got Talent, led by Simon Cowell who has successfully created the careers of Susan BoyleOne DirectionLeona Lewis, JLSOlly Murs and Rebecca Ferguson amongst others who came out of such shows as well as his sister show known as the X Factor.

Just a couple of days back, Lyndsay performed at the Bay Music Awards with Dimal noting that she features on his latest single Let's Make It Happen earning him a nomination for Best Newcomer in the field missing out on the opportunity with the award going to Cryptic Street who released their debut video Indecisive on escflashmalta.com earlier this year. The local performer is not the only one who got the opportunity to audition for Britain's Got Talent noting that Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2011 and 2013 semi-finalist; Domenique has also managed to get the call as noted through the television programme; Sibtek and an earlier press release sent to all major media outlets. In the meantime, Lyndsay is looking to close the year on a high by virtue of a live acoustic gig at the Plaza before the year comes to an end with many fantastic things coming forth in the next couple of months including a music video for a brand new single which will be showing Lyndsay in a completely different light as she plans to strip down to the basics, though enough said about that and let the mystery unravel later. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more news in the coming days about local artists.

One of the main reasons why most local artists remain current is because of their consistent drive to release work which would have been carefully written and ultimately produced and one of the names that has many people talking is surely that of Lyndsay who has most recently released a brand new track entitled Let's Make It Happen but it is to be noted that she is joined by none other than Dimal, the Russian rapper who is based in Malta and has even tried his luck on entering the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in the past, to no avail unfortunately. It is quite intriguing to see these two working together but then again, the final product which is currently on all local radio stations is hitting the right notes with the listeners of 89.7 Bay requesting the song quite heftily noting a weekly increase in airplay.

Dimal, has been quite quiet as of late but commenting on this track he states 'I'm always open to collaborations. I don't mind if the artist is well-known or not - I don't work with artists because of their popularity but because of their talent'. He would go onto add that the vocals from Lyndsay were a perfect with to the song and the female artist, who is a chart topper by her own standards went on record stating that working with 'such a talented and determined artist' was a pleasant experience. The genre is actually very different to what Lyndsay is used to especially this being more in Dimal framework of music having been awarded with the best hip/hop and r'n'b artist award back in the 2010 edition of the Malta Music Awards. Stay tuned to escflashmalta.com for more information about Lyndsay's and other artists' upcoming releases in the coming days, weeks and months.
