Ireland: Jedward Made the Wrong ChoiceWritten by Marc Calleja Bayliss
Seven victories have seen Ireland keep their record as the most successful country at the Eurovision Song Contest and despite the fact that they have not managed to come anywhere close to the top three in recent years, it seems that their fortunes are improving noting last years' top ten finish and this years' semi-final qualification thanks to the twins, Jedward and their entries Lipstick and Waterline where in the final they finished in eight and nineteenth place respectively. In the months leading up to the Irish Eurosong, there had been a lot of speculation on the track which the duo would ultimately be performed noting the fact that Linda Martin went on record stating that they had been receiving a lot of songs which were being put under consideration. As the date of the selection loomed, the twins went onto their twitter saying that the song would ultimately be called What's Your Number but in a couple of days, people learned the song is actually called Waterline.
The difference of the title could have still referred to the same track in the long run but this would not turn out to be the case eventually, especially due to the fact that when their third album Young Love was released earlier this year, peaking at number #1 in Ireland, number #8 in Estonia and #18 in Sweden amongst other, there was a track with the same name that many had expected to be their bid for the Eurovision Song Contest. As the fact remains, weeks have passed since the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan came to an end but we seriously believe that the wrong song was picked noting that What's Your Number is fresh, catchy and very much in boys' vocal range. The choreography for it would have been very instant and people would have remembered the song easier without the extra needed gimmick of the fountain that was brought in to help the viewers remember the track. Ireland have managed to make it through to the finals for the past three years and will be hoping to do so in 2013 when the contest moves to Malmo, Sweden. There are a number of names who are being tipped for next year including Imelda May, Leanne Moore, Mikey Graham, Nadine Coyle and even Johnny Logan amongst others.
