In 2014, Nadine Axisa released "Velvet", a twelve track collection of original songs in smooth jazz style. Since the launch of the album, the veteran female singer has kept herself rather busy both locally and overseas.

She performed in "A Night of Modern Jazz" (May 2014), Perugia (July 2014), the Italian Jazz Festival in Berlin (December 2014), 'SONGS' (January 2015), and the Mediterranean Literature Festival (August 2015), among others. Her most recently performance was in Frankfurt in December 2015 at the European Cultural Days of the European Central Bank.

The album received favourable reviews including a four star review on the UK's Jazz Journal. Moreover, it was featured on local and international radios; the latter include virginiamusic.eu (a radio station dedicated to female jazz vocalists, Netherlands); 'Mainly jazz' on Alive 107.3fm, UK; RTP Play which is Portugal's official radio station and Channel Radio, UK.

On the 11th and 12th March 2016, Nadine will be performing the album 'Velvet' in its entirety at Robert Samut Hall Floriana, accompanied by four excellent musicians who will bring a wealth of experience to this performance.

For those who are already familiar with the album tunes, the event will be an opportunity to listen to the tunes interpreted by different musicians, with slight but effective and engaging changes to the arrangements. For Velvet first timers, it will be a night of smooth jazz tunes, fresh and relaxing melodies; an exquisite infusion of swing, latin and ballads.

Nadine will be accompanied by Joe Debono (piano), Oliver Degabriele (double bass), Joseph Camilleri (drums) and Walter Vella (saxophone and flute). These four jazzmen have studied their own discipline; they hold a track record of recording and performing with various artists both locally and internationally.

In order to obtain tickets for the event, costing €14 (or €12, early bird) please visit www.ticketline.com.mt, we urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the local music scene.

Maltese singer and artist Amber is thrilled to announce the launch of her single called "What They Say". The song forms part of Amber's upcoming debut album which will be released later this year in Europe and the United States of America.

“What They Say” is composed with Amber in mind. It is a pop song with a dash of jazz, a characteristic that distinguishes Amber from many other pop artists. What makes this song special for Amber is the fact that she took an active role from the initial concept to production. The song is a rhythm and blues (R'n'B) song mixed with Amber’s jazzy and bluesy voice, which makes a unique and interesting blend. Amber’s vocal uniqueness is highlighted in this song to offer the listener a very pleasant texture.

“What They Say” is the creation of Matt Muxu Mercieca, an established singer and song writer and Elton Zarb, an accomplished musician who has scored for movies released by Universal and eOne, with the participation of Amber. “What They Say” is available for download from iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play and other online digital stores. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about Amber, Malta's participant in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.

MESC 2016: Claudia Faniello Denies Rumours

"I decided not to go for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest this time around, focusing on myself and new material, as part of a larger collection", echoed Claudia Faniello to the editorial team of escflashmalta.com, amidst growing rumours that she was eyeing a comeback.

Claudia Faniello first emerged onto the local music scene with "High Alert", an original song which got through to the final stages of the Malta Song for Europe 2006 with the vocals of Olivia Lewis, who had to interpret another song, "Spare a Moment", having obtained more points. As a result, the renowned songwriter chose the younger of the Faniello siblings, and from then onwards, she has gone from strength to strength.

Finishing as the first runner-up in 2008 with "Caravaggio",  composed by Ray Agius with lyrics by Godwin Sant, and in 2012 with "Pure", composed by Philip Vella with lyrics by Gerard James Borg, Claudia has cemented her place as the most successful female artist in the national selection not to win the competition. Her last participation came in 2013, with "When It's Time", which the singer/songwriter penned to the music of Errol Sammut.

Since then, she has focused on developing her own genre, working on a further two singles; "One Fine Day" and "Miles Away", with a third one in tow. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about Malta's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

In recent years, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has been the only local platform for songwriters and vocalists to produce original songs in English, but that has officially changed with the Summer Hit Song Contest which has returned to F Living for the second consecutive year. A total of 20 entries got through to the final stage of the competition with no less than 4 of them having already made it to the top of the music scene by virtue of reaching the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on at least one previous occasion.

We're going to chat to ALL the artists in contention so that you, our readers will have the opportunity to get to know them better. The first artist in our series of interviews is Dorcas Debono, and the song which she is presenting bears the name "Our Last Goodbye" composed by Dominic Cini to the lyrics of Rita Pace.

Dorcas, you are one of the youngest finalists in this year’s edition of the Summer Hit Song Contest, yet music enthusiasts have already heard your talent courtesy of the International Festival of Maltese Song 2013, and also the Talent Ġdid category of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2008. Is it daunting to experience a new music competition, and would you recommend participation to other newcomers?

It's always a new and different experience when you participate in a competition festival, obviously the higher the level of the festival is the higher the experience will be. I recommend the newcomers to try to be in these local competitions because they give you the chance to establish yourself on stage and in singing and the chance to be known with people as well.

“Din Jien”, composed by Dominic Cini to the lyrics of Rita Pace, was definitely your main highlight thus far, noting a 4th place result, ahead of some of Malta’s heavyweight artists including; Miriam Christine, Fiona Cauchi, Roger Tirazona and Janvil to name a few. How do you look back at the experience, and were you surprised at the final result?

The festival of the International Festival of Maltese Song I can say it was a huge highlight for me. It was my very first big festival for me and it was a great experience and it helped me mature more in music. I got the chance to perform at MCC which was amazing and performing with live band was nothing less. I was competing alongside establish singers which have a huge experience in their singing career.

The song "Din Jien" I believed in it from the first day i received it and i knew it was a very good song and I'm so satisfied with the performance i gave on the night. I wasn't surprised at all with the result because I believed that my song will be with top 5 in the final but due i was competing with other good singers i never knew what could happen but overall I'm so happy with the result and with the experience.

Would you kindly introduce your #summerhit2015 entry to our readers and also identify the meaning behind the lyrics?

With this song I would like to pass the message to All the people out there, so if something wrong is happening in your life you need to take a quick action for the better.

Would you like to say anything to our readers at escflashmalta.com?

To all escflashmalta.com readers i would like to urge you to follow the summer hit song contest and always support local talent. Thank You.

Through their online news portal MaltaRightNow, Media.Link Communications issued the names of the finalist entries, and their respective performers for the 2015 edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza. Following an unspecified number of submissions, as received on the 17th July 2015, a professional panel of judges whittled down the entries, choosing those which reflected the saying 'music to their ears' before coming up with 40 songs, all of which were re-interpreted with LIVE vocals by their respective artists. At the end of this process, the 20 finalists were selected.

In the lists below, there are two (3) singers with more than one (1) entry, and the song which has an asterisk (*) next to their name will either have to be given to another performer, or else be withdrawn from the competition, and thus replaced by the 21st entry in the original list of results. At this stage of the competition, we urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com in order to find out what will happen with the final list of participants for the 2015 Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza.

Following the success of newcomer Michela Galea, whose entry "Mixja Li Bdiet" composed by Renato Briffa to the lyrics of Alfred E Baldacchino was a worthy winner, it seems that interest is well and truly alive, noting the belief that the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza may once more make a name for itself as a scouting competition, with previous winners including; Amber (ESC 2015), Ira Losco (ESC 2002), Miriam Christine (ESC 1996), Mike Spiteri (ESC 1995) and Fabrizio Faniello (ESC 2001, 2006).

On Sunday 14th June, it was revealed by the producers of the Summer Hit Song Contest (#summerhit2015) that four entries had to be withdrawn from the competition due to other commitments during the recording dates. As a result, it was announced that another four (4) entries would be brought into the frame, keeping in mind the original result of the jury. On behalf of the editorial team at escflashmalta.com, we would like to wish Cherylis ("Unbreakable") Marilena Gauci ("Hurricane"), Simaria Galea ("Freedom"), and Sarah Crystal ("If I Only Knew") the very best of luck, whilst welcoming first time finalists Dorcas ("Our Last Goodbye") Jurgen Xerri ("Perfect"), Ryan Axisa ("C'est Moi") and returning finalist Dayle Camilleri ("Why?").

This year, a record number of 89 submissions were sent in for the Summer Hit Song Contest, with a professional panel of judges first whittling them down to 30, before eventually making the final selection, thus eliminating a total of 10 songs, all of which were deemed to be possible qualifiers. The idea of bringing in two songs from the reserve list continues to show the strength of submissions for this year's edition of the local music competition. In a statement to this portal, Deo Grech stated that 'another successful edition of the Summer Hit Song Contest' is on the agenda with a mixture of new, and established artists, all seeking the main prizes.

As has become customary, Media.Link Communications held a press conference to launch the 24th edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, spearheaded by Charles Stroud as the new Chairman, whilst being flanked by Sandra Grech, Clarissa Ellul and Noel D'Amato. A full copy of the regulations as well as the applications may be obtained through MaltaRightNow, for both KKI 2015 and for KKI Jr 2015. Another new regulation is that every artist is limited to the submission of only 6 prospective entries, noting that he may only perform 1 song during the final night.

Due to the negative impact brought about by the rules and regulations presented for the 24th edition of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza, with worthy songs such as “Ma Tintefix” sung by Neville Refalo, “Kastelli Fl-Arja” sung by Gloriana Arpa Belli and “Int” sung by Laura Bruno left out of the final selection of 20 finalists, the organising committee thought it best to return to the original method of selection whereas it will be the professional jury who will pick those who will compete in the final night, and as a result, 20 finalists will be chosen from the judging phase. Once more tele-voting will be applied only during the final, and will have merit as a stand-alone award.

Important Dates

KKI 2015

Submission: 17th July (till 7 pm)

1st Eliminatory Phase: 18th July (CD)

2nd Eliminatory Phase: 25th July (LIVE)

KKI Jr 2015

Submission: 17th July (till 7 pm)

1st Eliminatory Phase: 19th July (CD)

2nd Eliminatory Phase: 29th July (LIVE)
