“My love for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest has never been a secret, but I have decided to stay away for a second consecutive year, focusing on my career in the United States”, said Davinia to the editorial team of escflashmalta.com two weeks after the Public Broadcasting Services received submissions for the next edition of the national selection, slated to take place in January 2016.

In a rather meteoric rise to the top of the local music scene, Davinia emerged as a successful radio artist, with debut single “Bottled My Teardrops” and the follow-up “Sail Away” scaling the top of the charts on 89.7 Bay and receiving nationwide airplay.

She submit an entry into the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, “Betrayed”, composed by Elton Zarb to the lyrics of Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca, emerging as a dark horse during rehearsals, eventually managing a second runner-up finish. Davinia did not look back, and released a follow-up single during the summer months, “You Are My Home”, which was very well received, representing a slight change in direction from a music standpoint.

Work on another song for the competition begun, and despite entering as a favourite with “Brand New Day”, she finished at the bottom of the scoreboard with 7 points, 4 from the jury, and 3 from the tele-voting, despite receiving the ESCflashmalta People's Choice Award. Since then, Davinia has moved to the United States, worked on “Round & Round”, a summer single co-written with Nick Lopez, and more recently played at the historic Viper Room in Los Angeles, a venue which hosted a slew of legends, such as Cher, Guns N' Roses and Bruce Springsteen.

Davinia, a twenty-two year old female singer/songwriter, recently relocated to the United States of America in order to pursue a music career in a foreign country, hoping to break through on another level, has been humming melodies, and scribbling down lyrics with songwriter Nick Lopez.

One of the advanced projects which they had been working on at length was the original song “Round & Round” which is being presented as Davinia’s brand new single, and the first in 2015. This serves as a follow-up to “Ouch!”, produced by Carlo Gerada and co-penned with Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca and “Brand New Day”, composed by Elton Zarb and penned by Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca’.

In tune with a warm expectant summer, “Round & Round” is a fine mixture of pop, rhythm & blues, funk as well as soul, four genres which Davinia has previously had the opportunity to perform separately but not as a combination. As a co-writer, Davinia states that this is a ‘fun song which people will hum and bop along to instantly’.

In 1956, following the aftermath of the Second World War, it was decided that a music competition was to be held, eyeing to strengthen the economy and lighten up the mood. It is quite remarkable, that the same competition, the Eurovision Song Contest is still running strong in 2015. With such a strong following in Malta, escflashmalta.com has enlisted the support of nine celebrities in Malta, all of whom are familiar faces in the music industry, who will help assess the quality of the songs, and also the vocalists, in what has been coined as an extremely interesting edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, full of emotion and quality.

“Drop in number of Eurovision entries” is the name of an article that appeared in The Times of Malta earlier today, with direct reference to the fact that there was a fewer turnout that usual in the number of submissions that the Public Broadcasting Services revealed. escflashmalta.com made this quite clear in a subtle manner when confirming a host of names, both of vocalists and songwriters who did not put their first foot forward.

These included none other than; Sophie DeBattista, Davinia, Claudia Faniello, Ruth Portelli, De Bee, Pamela, Ray Agius, Alfred C Sant, Paul Giordimaina and Fleur Balzan. Nevertheless though, despite the drop in artists, Anton Attard, Head of Delegation on behalf of the Public Broadcasting Services confirmed to the leading local newspaper that the issue more or less deals with repeat submissions, songs that have been submit every year with the hope that they get through.

Whilst song submissions do eventually get through, others do not and if one looks at the shortlist of the past three to four years, some songs would always be recognizable. Artists whom escflashmalta.com can confirm to have submit to the 2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest include none other than; Domenique, Franklin Calleja, Izzy, Jessika, Kaya, Romina Mamo, Daniel Testa, Fabrizio Faniello, Dayle Camilleri and Ryan Paul Abela.

Speculation on Ira Losco is continuing to mount and with Moira Delia landing the top job of hosting the upcoming edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the news is only but confirmed. Her name among those shortlisted later on this month will definitely be the worst kept secret in recent years. In a shock announcement made during the 8 o'clock news bulletin a couple of weeks ago, it was revealed that the Public Broadcasting Services will be hosting the 2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest on the 21st & 22nd November at the Marsa Shipbuilding. What this meant though, is that singers and songwriters alike did not have ample time to get their material ready for Vienna, Austria with several opting out of the submission process which kicked off yesterday and officially comes to an end later on today.

Pamela (MESC 05-10,14), Davinia (MESC 13-14), Ruth Portelli (MESC 10), Kurt Calleja (ESC 12), Claudia Faniello (MESC 06-13) and Raquela Dalli Gonzi (MESC 09, 11, 13) have officially confirmed to the editorial team of escflashmalta.com that they will not be part of the submission process, for various reasons. On the other hand though, other artists whom we confirm to be part of the process are; Daniel Testa (MESC 14), Izzy (SHSC 11), Fabrizio Faniello (ESC 01, 06), Franklin Calleja (MESC 13-14), Domenique (MESC 11, 13) and Kaya (MESC 00, 10, 12).

It is expected that the top female singer/songwriter in Malta, Ira Losco, who had also been to the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2002 will be making a scintillating return, on the back of an extremely successful year with "The Fire" topping the iTunes album chart for more than two consecutive months. The Public Broadcasting Services will continue receiving original and cover songs as submissions till 16:00 CET at the Creativity Hub in Gwardamangia. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook & Twitter.

Claudia Faniello, a regular face at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest throughout the years, has decided to opt out of the competition for the second consecutive occasion. The reasoning behind this is relatively straightforward, with the female singer/songwriter currently working on her sophomore album, the follow-up to the successful debut "Convincingly Better" which was released on the CAP-Sounds imprint.

The lead single off the record, "When It's Time" was a participating entry in the 2013 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and peaked at number #2 on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D. It was the beginning of a different journey for Claudia, something that was given more life with the release of the second single "One Fine Day". Supported by a music and lyric video, all done in an extremely professional manner, the song managed to top Malta's Top Ten on 89.7 Bay for more than 3 weeks in a row.

Claudia Faniello follows in the footsteps of Davinia, as former runner-ups who will not be sending in any submissions for the 2015 Malta Eurovision Song Contest. You may support both female singer/songwriters through their official accounts on social networking website, Facebook. In the meantime, we urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook & Twitter for all the latest news.

Since emerging onto the local music scene back in 2011 with "Bottled My Teardrops", a number #1 hit on Malta's Top Ten with Nathan D on 89.7 Bay, she has been working in the studio night and day, doing what she enjoys doing the best. In 2013, one of the surprise packages of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest was female singer/songwriter Davinia, whose entry "Betrayed" composed by Elton Zarb to the lyrics of Matt Mercieca finished in 3rd place. True to her character, she returned with a second entry, "Brand New Day", but the result was not as expected and did not trouble the scoreboard despite touted as a potential winner.

Davinia, a guest writer on escflashmalta.com has confirmed to this portal that she does not intend to submit an entry for the 2015 edition of the Malta Euroviion Song Contest for the simple reason that she will be relocating to the United States of America, where she will be studying vocal technique and music theory. We urge you to stay tuned to escflashmalta.com even through Facebook and Twitter for all the latest news about the 2015 edition of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.
